도로 주행환경 변화와 핸들종류에 따른 운전자 부하 및 행동특성 (Driver Characteristics and Workload according to Changing Driving Environment and Types of Steering Wheel)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the driving performance and workload according to changing driving environment and types of steering wheel. Twelve drivers who participated in this study consisted of two groups; six Japanese as the left-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on left-hand side of the road, and six Europeans, Americans, and Korean as the right-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on right-hand side of the road. They were asked to operate a driving simulator while using two different types of steering wheel (for the left-hand side driving and the right-hand side driving). During the experiment, a range of data were measured including driving performance, mental workload, and eye movements which were recorded in order to identify the amount of time looking towards the in-vehicle route guidance. Results indicated that the use of the steering wheel by parallel moving led to increase high attentional demand and worse glance behavior to traffic signs for the left-lane drivers. In the case of the right-lane drivers, the effects by changing driving direction were more effective than the types of steering wheel due to their habit or traits.

보행자의 선호 보행방향에 관한 조사 및 분석 (Survey and Analysis of Pedestrians' Preferences on Walking Directions)

  • Why do some countries walk on the right and others on the left? People have a dominant hand which leads to a natural tendency to favor one side of the road or another depending on the means of transportation being used. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the stereotype of Korean regarding preferred walking direction in encountering various facilities and provide the appropriate information to traffic policy makers. Six hundred Korean male and female subjects aging from 12 to 83 were selected to investigate the various statistics about their preferred walking direction and their employment characteristics on walking diverse facilities. The walking directions of eleven different facilities were asked along with other relative subjects' characteristics(e.g., age, gender, hand and foot dominance) to determine the relationship among these obtained data. The descriptive statistics showed that 73.7% and 26.3% were preferred walking right and left direction respectively. Moreover, various statistical analysis revealed that general tendency of walking direction was varied by hand and foot dominances. There were strong tendency that right-handed people prefer walking right side of the road and vise versa, hence this should be considered in setting up traffic policies. As a concluding remark, it is better to design traffic policies and regulations in the way that peoples' preference and expectation.

우천시 비보호좌회전에서의 간격수락 행태모형 개발 (Development of Gap Acceptance Models for Permitted Left Turn Intersections during Rainfall)

  • PURPOSES : A complete signal system is not always the best solution for improving traffic operation efficiency at intersections. An alternative solution is to use a Protected Permitted Left Turn (PPLT) operation method. However, the PPLT method needs to be developed after a detailed study of driving tendencies, most notably the gap acceptance behavior, for successful implementation. In this study, the gap acceptance behavior was investigated under various variables and weather conditions, especially under rain, and the results were compared to the case of normal weather. The results of this study will be helpful in introducing the PPLT method, and are important considering the tendency of attempting unprotected left turns that is extremely common in Korean drivers. METHODS : Data was obtained by analyzing traffic footage at four intersections on a day when the precipitation was greater than 5 mm/h. The collected data was classified into seven variables for statistical analysis. Finally, we used logistic regression analysis to develop a probability distribution model. RESULTS : Gap, traffic volume, and the number of conflicting lanes were factors affecting the gap acceptance behavior of unprotected left turns under rainy conditions. CONCLUSIONS : The probability of attempting unprotected left turns is higher for larger gaps. On the other hand, the probability of attempting unprotected left turns decreases with an increase in the traffic volume. Finally, an increase in the number of conflict lanes leads to a decrease in the probability of attempting unprotected left turns.

비신호교차로에서의 교통류특성 및 접근지체모형 개발 -상충지역 통행속도 이용- (Traffic Flow Characteristics and Approach Delay Models of Unsignalized Intersections Based on the Travel Speed)

  • The purposes of this study are to identify Traffic Flow characteristics and to develop approach delay model of unsignalized intersection based on the travel speed in the conflicting area. The results of this study are as following ; 1. The cumulative frequency distributions of Left-turning speed show a few differences among approaches and they are distributed to lower range of speeds. On the other hand, those of through speed show obvious differences among bounds. The similar results also show in the analysis of Percentile speed. 2. The effectiveness of conflicting movements to travel speed in the conflicting area are analyzed using regression analysis. Left-turning speed model shows that Left-and Right-Conflicting speed. Through-speed model is also developed, when approaching through volume is less than 420vph. 3. Since the lost time due to the acceleration stop, and decelerlation is occured in the conflicting area, approach delay model is delivered using the travel speed models under the condition of small queuing delay.

보호좌회전과 보호/비보호 겸용 좌회전 통행특성 차이를 고려한 보호/비보호 겸용 좌회전 적용방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of PPLT(Protected/Permitted Left-Turn) Considering the Traffic Characteristics of PLT/PPLT)

  • 기존 논문들처럼 지체시간 감소만으로 PPLT 특성을 반영하여 PPLT의 적용 여부를 판단하는 것은 한계가 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 지체시간 외에 통과 좌회전 교통량, 상충위험수를 사용하여 PPLT 적용방안을 제시하였다. 분석결과 좌회전 교통량이 용량 이상이면서 많을수록, 대향 직진 교통량은 용량 미만이면서 적을수록 PPLT 효과가 증가하였다. 그러나 좌회전 교통량이 용량 미만에서는 선행 신호대기 차량들이 비보호로 교차로를 통과하게 되어 지체시간은 일부 감소하지만 전체 통과 좌회전 교통량은 증가하지 않고 상충위험률은 증가하게 된다. 그리고 대향 직진 차로수가 1, 2차로에서는 상충위험수가 유사하지만 3차로 이상이 되면 크게 증가한다. 또한 PLT와 PPLT의 통과 좌회전 교통량 차이는 지체시간 차이와 유사한 패턴을 보이면서 지체시간보다 PPLT 적용 범위가 더 넓고 상충위험수와 연관성이 높게 분석되었다. 따라서 PPLT의 교통류 특성과 상충위험수 등을 고려하기 위해서는 통과 좌회전 교통량이 지체시간보다 유리하다. 즉, PLT와 PPLT의 통과 좌회전 교통량, 지체시간 차이와 대향직진 3차로 이상에서의 상충위험수를 동시에 고려하여 PPLT 적용 여부를 판단하면 지체시간만을 적용해온 기존 방안에 비해 합리적인 방안이 될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

복합 한의 치료를 시행한 교통사고 후 악화된 본태성떨림플러스 환자: 증례 보고 (Complex Korean Medicine Treatment for Essential Tremor Plus Patient Aggravated by Traffic Accident: A Case Report)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the effect of complex Korean medicine treatments on Essential Tremor Plus (ET plus) patient aggravated by a traffic accident. Methods: We treated an ET plus patient with complex Korean medicine. The patient's resting tremor and kinetic tremor in both hands intensified after experiencing a traffic accident, with tremor in the left hand being worse than that in the right hand. Effect of complex Korean medicine treatment was evaluated using Fahn-Tolosa-Marin Tremor Rating Scale (FTMTRS), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: After 26 weeks of treatments (acupuncture, pharmacupuncture, cupping, Iigyeungbyunqi-therapy, and herbal medicine), the FTMTRS decreased from 38 to 15. NRS of Lt. upper limb pain decreased from NRS 9 to 0. BAI score also decreased from 31 to 17. Conclusions: Complex Korean medicine could be used to treat patients with ET plus aggravated by a traffic accident.

우측핸들차량 운전자의 잠재적 위험성 분석연구 (Analytical Study on the Potential Risks from Right-Handled Vehicle Drivers)

  • 현재 우리나라는 도로교통법에서 도로의 우측통행을 법률로 규정하고, 이에 적합한 운전석의 위치는 좌측 체계를 관례적으로 유지하고 있다. 그러나 최근 우측 핸들차량이 외국(특히 일본)에서 다양한 절차를 통해 수입되어 2004년 7월 자료에 의하면 이사화물 차량 1,343대와 외교관 차량 593대 등 2,000대 이상이 운행되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 수입된 우측 핸들 차량은 국내의 우측 방향 운행체계에 적합하지 않아 잠재적으로 사고의 위험성을 내포하고 있다. 실험을 통하여 우측 핸들차량에 익숙하지 않은 운전자들은 방향지시등의 조작시간이 길어지고 에러횟수가 많아진다는 것을 볼 수 있었는데, 이는 교통사고에 큰 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인이다. 또한 추월시 발생하는 시거확보의 문제에 대한 실험의 결과, 운전석으로부터 10m 뒤에 위치한 종이컵을 보는 실험결과 좌측 핸들 차량의 시야 범위는 2.95m, 우측 핸들 차량의 시야 범위는 1.7m로 분석되었다. 우측 핸들차량에 대한 안전교육을 실시하고 기준에 준하는 운전자에게 운행할 수 있는 자격을 부여하며, 법 규정에 이와 관련된 기준 마련 등을 통하여 우측 핸들차량에 대한 안전대책을 수립할 수 있는 방안 모색이 필요하다.
