  • This letter addresses the superimposed pilot aided multiuser channel estimation for the uplinks of multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems. To mitigate the embedded-data effects on the performance of channel estimation, a novel combining algorithm is proposed. Optimal pilot symbols are developed with respect to the least square channel estimate's mean square error. The averaged sum-capacity lower bound is derived and simulated. Simulation results show that on a low signal-to-noise ratio regime, our proposed scheme achieves better performance and higher capacity than the conventional pilot aided approach.

  • Transmission characteristics of the sound propagation is very complicate and sparse in shallow water. To increase the performance of underwater acoustic communication system, lots of channel estimation technique has been proposed. In this paper, we proposed the channel estimation based on LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm which has faster convergence speed than conventional sparse-aware LMS algorithms. The proposed method combines $L_p$-norm LMS with soft decision process. Simulation was performed by using the sound velocity profile which acquired in real sea trial. As a result, we confirmed that the proposed method shows the improved performance and faster convergence speed than conventional methods.

  • In this paper, the channel estimation performance of proposed TSC (TSC-S) is investigated in terms of the BER and BLER performances when HSR is considered for GERAN evolution system. The performance is evaluated by the link level simulation and is compared with the other TSC proposal (TSC-E). Numerical results show that the performance employing the TSC-S is almost same to that using the TSC-E. In the case of cochannel interferences, the similar tendency is shown, when joint least square is adopted for channel estimation.

  • The scattered pilots employed in DVB-T take advantage of the merits of both the block type and comb type pilot arrangement to increase the transmission efficiency. To estimate the channel transfer functions for data subcarriers, it is required to conduct time-frequency domain 2D estimation using the pilots. Though 2D Wiener estimator is optimal in sense of MSE (mean square error), it is too complex to implement in hardware. In this paper a new channel estimation method for the scattered pilot based OFDM system by measuring the power of AWGN and removing the noise in the LS (least square) estimate of the channel is proposed. And the simulation results reveal the proposed method outperforms the 2D linear interpolation in the fading channel.

  • Doubly-selective channel estimator for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems is proposed in this paper. Based on the generalized complex exponential basis expansion model(GCE-BEM), we describe the time-variant channel with time-invariant coefficients over multiple OFDM blocks. The time variation of the channel destroys the orthogonality between subcarriers, and the resulting channel matrix in the frequency domain is no longer diagonal, but the main interference comes from the near subcarriers. Based on this, we propose a channel estimator with low pilot ratio. We first develop a least-square(LS) estimator under the assumption that only the maximum Doppler frequency and the channel order are known at the receiver, and then verify that the correlation matrix of inter-channel interference(ICI) is a scaled identity matrix based on which we derive an optimal pilot insertion scheme for the LS estimator in the sense of minimum mean square error. The proposed estimator has the advantages of low pilot ratio and robustness against inter-carrier interference.

  • Vehicle communication can facilitate efficient coordination among vehicles on the road and enable future vehicular applications such as vehicle safety enhancement, infotainment, or even autonomous driving. In the $3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), many studies focus on long term evolution (LTE)-based vehicle communication. Because vehicle speed is high enough to cause severe channel distortion in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) environments. We can utilize channel estimation methods to approach a reliable vehicle communication systems. Conventional channel estimation schemes can be categorized as least-squares (LS), decision-directed channel estimation (DDCE), spectral temporal averaging (STA), and smoothing methods. In this study, we propose a smart channel estimation scheme in LTE-based V2V environments. The channel estimation scheme, based on an LTE uplink system, uses a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) as the pilot symbol. Unlike conventional channel estimation schemes, we propose an adaptive smoothing channel estimation scheme (ASCE) using quadratic smoothing (QS) of the pilot symbols, which estimates a channel with greater accuracy and adaptively estimates channels in data symbols. In simulation results, the proposed ASCE scheme shows improved overall performance in terms of the normalized mean square error (NMSE) and bit error rate (BER) relative to conventional schemes.

  • In a wireless mobile communication system, a pilot signal has been considered to be a necessary signal for estimating a changing channel between a base station and a terminal. All mobile communication systems developed so far have a specification for transmitting pilot signals. However, although the pilot signal transmission is easy to estimate the channel,(Ed: unclear wording: it is easy to use the pilot signal transmission to estimate the channel?) it should be minimized because it uses radio resources for data transmission. In this paper, we propose a pilotless channel estimation scheme (PCE) by introducing the clustering method of unsupervised learning used in our deep learning into channel estimation.(Ed: highlight- unclear) The PCE estimates the channel using only the data symbols without using the pilot signal at all. Also, to apply PCE to a real system, we evaluated the performance of PCE based on the resource block (RB), which is a resource allocation unit used in LTE. According to the results of this study, the PCE always provides a better mean square error (MSE) performance than the least square estimator using pilots, although it does not use the pilot signal at all. The MSE performance of the PCE is affected by the number of data symbols used and the frequency selectivity of the channel. In this paper, we provide simulation results considering various effects(Ed: unclear, clarify).

  • This paper, we propose a new channel Estimation method for MB-OFDM(Multi-Band OFDM) system that is suggested as one of standards in IEEE 802.15 TG3a for high data rate(110Mbps${\~}$480Mbps) WPAN system. The proposed method uses correlation characteristic of the PS(Packet Synchronization) sequence for timing synchronization. It can reduce the influence of noise compared with the conventional algorithm which based on LS(Least square) algorithm is redundancy without using the CE(Channel Estimation) Sequence for channel Estimation. We simulate both conventional method and proposed method for performance analysis in S-V channel environment which proposed by IEEE 802.15.3a. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional algorithm about 1${\~}$1.5dB of Eb/NO.

  • In this paper, we propose a mobile channel estimation algorithm using matching pursuit algorithm for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Least square (LS) algorithm, which is used as a conventional channel estimation algorithm for OFDM systems, has error probability of channel estimation affected by effects of noise. By estimating the channel of sparse type, the proposed algorithm reduces effects of noise during time intervals that multi-path signal doesn't exist. The proposed algorithm estimates a mobile receivingchannel using pilot information transmitted consequently. We compare performance of the proposed algorithm with the LS algorithm by measuring symbol error rate with 64QAM under a mobile multi-path fading channel model.

  • This paper investigates the performance of IEEE 802.11p wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system in small-scale fading models reported by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). We redesign the small-scale fading models to be applied to the computer simulation and develop the IEEE 802.11p WAVE physical layer simulator to provide the bit error rate and packet error rate performances. Moreover, a new channel estimator using decision directed channel estimation and linear minimum mean square error smoothing is proposed in order to improve the performance of the conventional least square channel estimator using two identical long training symbols. The simulation results are satisfactorily coincident with the scenarios of Georgia Tech report, and the proposed channel estimator significantly outperforms the conventional channel estimator.
