측모에 대한 치과의사와 일반인의 인지도와 선호도에 관한 비교 연구 (Comparison study on peference and perception in changed profile between dentists and lay people)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the level of perception and preference between dentists and lay people to altered facial profile. The assessors consisted of 40 dentists and 54 lay people, the survey was performed using questionnaire asking the order of perception and preference. The profiles presented in the questionnaire were based on the profile of one man and one woman, each morphed according to anterior or posterior direction of maxilla and mandible. The results were as follows. 1. In antero-posterior change of man and woman s profile, both dentists and lay people were sensitive to relatively skeletal profile (convex profile) changes than skeletal profile (concave profile) changes. 2. At least dentists needed to be perceived a 2 mm change in convex profile and a 3 mm change in concave profile and lay people needed to be perceived a 2 mm change in convex profile and a 3 mm change in concave profile for profile view. 3. Dentists are more sensitive in perception of man s profile change than lay people, but there is no significant differences between dentists and lay people in sensitivity of detection for woman s profile changes . 4. It seems that there is a general concordance between dentists and lay people in there perception of man s and woman s facial profile. This information might be clinician in comprehensive perception and preference of dentists and lay people to altered facial profile.

발효음식이 의치상레진의 색상 및 표면경도 변화에 미치는 영향 (THE EFFECT OF FERMENTED FOODS ON THE COLOR AND HARDNESS CHANGE OF DENTURE BASE ACRYLIC RESINS)

  • Statement of problem: For a long time, many of denture base acrylic resins have been used for edentulous and partial edentulous patients because of easy manipulation and good mechanical properties, but its esthetic aspect has not been commented enough. Denture base acrylic resins also has caused esthetic problems due to discoloration or staining as in esthetic restoration. Many researches and reports have treated the problems and accomplished esthetic improvement. But these researches and reports dealt with general food colors or beverages, not with fermented foods. Purpose: This study is designed to assess what fermented foods, such as soy sauce, gochujang, and toenjang that many of Koreans have taken in, influence on the color and hardness variation of denture base acrylic resins. Materials and methods: For the procedure, twelve disks per 4 denture base acrylic resins were fabricated with a thickness of 2mm and 16mm in diameter. Each seven specimen were measured for discoloration with spectrophotometer, while the others, five specimen, for surface hardness change with Barcol hardness tester, over time. Each 12 specimen were immersed into the 4 beakers of fermented foods(soy sauces, gochujangs, toenjangs, deionized water), and $L^{*},a^{*}$, and $b^*$ values were measured for the color difference$({\Delta}E^*)$, on the 1st, 7th, and 28th day with spectrophotometer, with the measurement of surface hardness change. Each data observed was processed statistically. Results: The findings are as follows; Discoloration 1. All of denture base resins was not influenced by the kind of fermented foods, except for $QC20^{(R)}$ 2. Soy sauce and red pepper paste caused more change for denture base resins than deionized water and soy bean paste, except for Perform$^{(R)}$ 3. Most significant change was shown in Lucitone 199$^{(R)}$, whereas Perform$^{(R)}$ results in the least change for all immersed solution, with no statistical significance. Hardness change 1. Barcol hardness values in deposited specimens have been changed low degree, but with significant statistical change according to the kind of food and duration. 2. Lucitone$^{(R)}$ 199 as significantly lower Barcol hardness value than others do. Conclusion: Based on the above results, it suggests that the habitual intake of fermented foods is not helpful for the color stability of denture base acrylic resins because Soy sauce and red pepper paste mainly caused discoloration and surface hardness change. Particularly $Lucitone199^{(R)}$ shows specific discoloration and low surface hardness values. Therefore, it is recommended giving caution patients with denture of $Lucitone199^{(R)}$ especially against the habitual intake of fermented foods like soy sauce and red pepper paste.

기후변화 환경에서의 낙엽성 참나무 6종의 발아와 초기 생장 (Impact of Germination and Initial Growth of Deciduous Six Oak Species under Climate Change Environment Condition)

  • 우리나라 산림 생태계의 주요 우점종인 낙엽성 참나무 6종의 지구온난화에 의한 초기 생장의 영향을 파악하기 위하여, 야외 (대조구)와 대조구보다 온도 (3.0℃ 상승)와 CO2 농도 (2배 상승)를 증가시킨 기후변화처리구에 종자를 파종하고 2주 간격으로 발아 및 초기 생장을 측정하였다. 그 결과 6종 참나무 유식물들의 지상부와 지하부 출현시기는 대조구보다 기후변화처리구에서 모든 종이 더 빨랐다. 잎 출현시기는 기후변화처리구에서 굴참나무, 신갈나무 그리고 졸참나무가 빨랐다. 지하부 길이는 기후변화 처리구에서 굴참나무, 신갈나무 그리고 떡갈나무가 길었고 상수리나무는 구배 간 차이가 없었으며 갈참나무와 졸참나무는 짧았다. 지상부 길이는 기후변화처리구에서 졸참나무가 길었고, 상수리나무, 신갈나무 그리고 떡갈나무는 차이가 없었으며 갈참나무는 짧았다. 이상의 결과는 지구온난화 환경에서 지상부와 잎의 출현시기가 빠르고 지하부 생장이 좋은 신갈나무의 초기 생장이 가장 유리함을 나타내었다. 반면, 기후변화처리환경에서 지상부와 지하부의 생장이 가장 낮은 갈참나무는 다른 참나무에 비하여 생육이 불리하였다. 또한 상수리나무는 지구온난화 환경에 따른 초기 생장의 차이가 적어 가장 영향이 적은 나무로 판단된다.

뜸요법이 전고혈압 성인의 생리적 지수와 자율신경계 증상에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Moxibustion on Physiological Indices and Autonomic Nervous Symptoms in Adults with Prehypertension)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of moxibustion on physiological indices, such as 24-hr blood pressure, pulse pressure, and pulse rate, and autonomic nervous symptoms among adults with prehypertension. Methods: Participants were adults whose systolic and diastolic blood pressures were in the prehypertension stage and were not under treatment for the condition. Both experimental and control group consisted of 13 participants who were taking classes on acupuncture and moxibustion at a private institute. The experimental group received moxibustion once a day for 15 min, at least 5 days a week for 8 weeks. The results were analyzed using $x^2$-test, t-test, Fisher's exact test, Wilcoxon rank sum test and repeated measures ANOVA with the SAS program. Bonferroni correction method was adopted for multiple comparisons. Results: No significant change was observed in the 24-hr systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the two groups. Differences in the 24-hr pulse pressure and pulse rate were also not significant. However, significant decreases in headache, symptoms of flushing and fatigue were observed in the experimental group. Conclusion: The results suggest that moxibustion contributes to alleviating symptoms such as headache, flushing and fatigue associated with the autonomic nervous system among adults with prehypertension.

Endodontic characteristics of mandibular premolar with dens evaginatus: a retrospective study

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the endodontic characteristics of mandibular premolars with dens evaginatus (DE) that require endodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent endodontic treatment were enrolled. The inclusion criteria were patients who underwent root canal treatment in the lower permanent teeth with DE and were followed up for at least 1 year. Preoperative clinical and radiographic variables were obtained. The frequency distribution of the preoperative variables was compared using the χ2 or Fisher's exact tests. The significance of the change in periapical health index (PAI) and root development stages before and after treatment was examined using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: A total of 150 teeth of 134 patients with an average age of 15.3 years were included. The percentage distribution comparison of the preoperative variables and obturation techniques revealed significant differences in pulpal and periapical diagnosis, and percussion, and especially regarding age, root development stage, and PAI. Age was the only statistically significant preoperative variable associated with root growth (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Approximately, 60% of DEs requiring endodontic treatment had immature roots. Age being the most significant predisposing factor, early treatment provides the greatest opportunity for full root development.

Assessment of Breast Volume Change after Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous Flap

  • Background The evaluation of a breast after breast reconstruction depends on a surgeon's subjective criteria. We used computed tomography (CT) scans to obtain an objective evaluation of the postoperative results by measuring the breast volume of patients who had undergone breast reconstruction using pedicled transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flaps. This research will help in the objective postoperative evaluation of reconstructed breasts, and also in the preoperative flap size designs. Methods A total of 27 patients underwent breast reconstruction using pedicled TRAM flaps after mastectomy from September 2007 to July 2010. Of these, 10 patients who were followed up and underwent CT scans 2 or more times during the follow-up period were included in this study. We evaluated the change in breast volume over time using CT scans, and the interval breast volume change between CT scans. Results All of the 10 patients' reconstructed breasts showed a volume decrease over time. The breast volume changes in the intervals between CT scans were as follows: 5.65% decrease between the first CT and second CT scan, 2.3% decrease between the second CT and third CT scan, (statistically significant) and 1.89% decrease between the third CT and forth CT scan. (not statistically significant). Conclusions This research shows the possibility of objectively evaluating the postoperative breast volume changes. The findings will be helpful in designing the size of TRAM flaps to use on defects after mastectomy. Based on these results, we should also closely observe the reconstructed breast volume for at least 2 years.

다양한 지지면에서 푸쉬업 플러스 운동이 20대 건강한 성인의 어깨 안정화 근육 두께에 미치는 영향 (Effect of push-up plus exercise on shoulder stabilization muscle thickness in healthy adults in their twenties on various support surfaces)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of push-up plus exercise on the changes in the thickness of the trapezius trapezius, serratus anterior and pectoralis major muscles involved in shoulder stability in various support surfaces. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The thickness change of the shoulder stabilizing muscle was measured using an ultrasound device. Corresponding t-test was performed to confirm the change within the group before the experiment and after 5 weeks. And one-way ANOVA was used to confirm the change between groups after 5 weeks. As a post hoc test, the least significant difference test was performed, and the significance level was set to a=0.05. Results: Changes in the thickness of the trapezius muscle within the group were significantly different between UPEG and SPEG after 5 weeks (p<0.05), and there was a significant difference between groups after 5 weeks (p<0.05). Changes in the thickness of the serratus anterior and pectoralis major muscle within the group were significantly different after 5 weeks in PEG, UPEG and SPEG (p<0.05), and the changes between the groups were significantly different in the serratus anterior muscle after 5 weeks (p<0.05). Conclusion: From the results of this study, it was found that the push-up exercise on an unstable support surface was effective for strengthening the trapezius upper and serratus anterior. This study intends to suggest the possibility of application as basic data for a push-up plus exercise program in clinical practice.

사전심사제도 도입에 다른 의사의 진료행태 변화 (A study on changes in physician behavior after enforcing pre-review system)

  • Starting from April, 2003, new pre-review system has been introduced and implemented to reduce unnecessary conflict with medical care organizations caused by current retrospective claim review system and to enhance efficiency of review system. The main purpose of pre-review system is to educate doctors to contrive adequacy of medical services. This research mainly focuses on effectiveness of pre-review system's influence on physicians' behavior changes. The analysis-participants were drawn from 1,449 clinics which implemented pre-review system, since April of 2003. The research results are as followings. First, the amount per claim has reduced by $\\3,154$, days of visit per claim by 0.1 day, and amount per visit by $\\412$, which were statistically significant. Second, anesthesiologists have decreased in three indicators the most, and the internists had least of changes. Third, the amount per claim and days of visit per claims has dropped significantly on physicians with less periods of practice and physicians with more ages. Fourth, the clinics without the expensive medical equipments, the city clinics showed significant decrease on days of visit per claim. Fifth, in intervention methods, the one-to-one education showed more significant decrease on amount per visit rather than information feedback by paper. In conclusion, the pre-review system have an impact on self-imposed physician behavioral change. The outcome of this research may be utilized for future extension implementation of pre-review system. Furthermore, it is showed that ability of transitions in medical services review system according to the future transition of payment system and context of health service policy.

Pistachio, Pomegranate and Olive Byproducts Added to Sheep Rations Change the Biofunctional Properties of Milk through the Milk Amino Acid Profile

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of adding pistachio shell (PIS), pomegranate hull (POM), and olive pulp (OP) to the diet on milk amino acid and fatty acid parameters in Awassi sheep. In the study, 40 head of Awassi sheep, which gave birth at least twice, were used as animal material. Sheep were fed a control diet without added byproducts (CON), rations containing PIS, POM, and OP. Milk amino acid profile was determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, milk fatty acid gas chromatography-flame ionization detection device. There was a dramatic reduction in alanine, citrulline, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, leucine, ornithine and alphaaminoadipic acid in the research groups. In the PIS group, argininosuccinic acid, gammaminobutyric acid, beta-alanine and sarcosine; In the POM group, asparagine, gammaminobutyric acid, beta-alanine, and taurine; In the OP group, a significant positive increase was found in terms of alanine, histidine, gammaminobutyric acid, and taurine amino acids. The applications in the study did not have a statistically significant effect on the ratio of short, medium and long chain fatty acids in milk (p>0.05). In the presented study, it was determined that PIS, POM, and OP, which were added to the sheep rations at a rate of 5%, caused significant changes in the milk amino acid profiles. In this change in milk amino acid profiles, the benefit-harm relationship should be considered.

반응표면분석법에 의한 가공버터 제조의 최적화 및 Rheology 분석 (Optimization of the Manufacturing of Process Butter by Response Surface Methodology and Its Texture and Rheological Properties)

  • Using central composite design, we have designed optimization of the manufacturing of processed butter. And response surface analysis by least-square regression was used Statistical Analysis System(SAS). Central composite design can be achieved by response surface techniques that allow flexibility in modeling and analysis. Response surface methodology(RSM) was used to optimize hardness(%) using as independent variables; the content of butter($X_1$), ranging from 50 to 90(%), the content of soybean oil($X_2$), from 0 to 20(%), and the hydrogenated soybean oil($X_3$) from 0 to 4(%). The results on the regression coefficients calculated for overrun by response surface by least-square regression(RSREG) were followed. It was considered that the linear regression was significant(p<0.01). As for the processed butter, the regression model equation for the hardness(Y, %) to the change of an independent variable could be predicted as follow: $Y=60.88-8.92X_2-{29.3X_2}^2$. The optimal for the manufacturing of processed butter were determined at the content of butter of 88.22%, soybean oil of 6.71% and hydrogenated soybean oil of 2.36%, respectively. Optimum compositions were resulted in hardness of 65.78 N. Finally the reference sample(Butter in the morning, Seoul Dairy Co-op.) and processed butter manufacturing under the optimal conditions were compared with spreadability test. The spreadability scores result from reference sample and butter under optimal conditions was not found a significant difference.
