This paper proposes an adaptive generalized predictive control with feedforward algorithm for steam generator level control in nuclear power plant. The proposed algorithm is shown that the parameters of N-step ahead predictors can be obtained using the parameters of one-step ahead predictor which is derived from plant model with feedforward. Using this property the proposed scheme is an adaptive algorithm which consists of GPC method and the recursive least squares algorithm for identifying the parameters of one-step ahead predictor. Also, computer simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of proposed algorithm using a mathematical model of PWR steam generator Simulation results show good performances for load variation. And the proposed algorithm shows better responses than PI controller does.

The main purpose of tunnel ventilation system is to maintain CO pollutant and VI (visibility index) under an adequate level to provide drivers with safe driving condition. Moreover, it is necessary to minimize power consumption used to operate ventilation system. To achieve the objectives, the control algorithm used in this research is reinforcement teaming (RL) method. RL is a goal-directed teaming of a mapping from situations to actions. The goal of RL is to maximize a reward which is an evaluative feedback from the environment. Constructing the reward of the tunnel ventilation system, two objectives listed above are included. RL algorithm based on actor-critic architecture and natural gradient method is adopted to the system. Also, the recursive least-squares (RLS) is employed to the learning process to improve the efficiency of the use of data. The simulation results performed with real data collected from existing tunnel are provided in this paper. It is confirmed that with the suggested controller, the pollutant level inside the tunnel was well maintained under allowable limit and the performance of energy consumption was improved compared to conventional control scheme.
Directed graphic algorithm was applied to an empirical analysis of traffic occupant fatalities based on a model by Crandall. In this paper, Crandall's data on U.S. traffic fatalities for the period 1947-1981 are focused and extended to include 1982-1993. Based on the 1947-1981 annual data, the directed graph algorithms reveal that occupant traffic deaths are directly caused by income, vehicle miles, and safety devices. Vehicle mileage is caused by income and rural driving. The estimation is conducted using three stage least squares regression. Those results show a difference between the traditional regression methodology and causal graphical analysis. It is also found that forecasts from the directed graph based model outperform forecasts from the regression-based models, in terms of mean squared forecasts error. Furthermore, it is demonstrates that there exists some latent variables between all explanatory variables and occupant deaths.

The signed regressor (SR) algorithm employs one bit quantization on the input regressor (or tap input) in such a way that the quantized input sequences become +1 or -1. The algorithm is computationally more efficient by nature than the popular least mean square (LMS) algorithm. The behavior of the SR algorithm unfortunately is heavily dependent on the characteristics of the input signal, and there are some Inputs for which the SR algorithm becomes unstable. It is known, however, that such a stability problem does not take place with the SR algorithm when the input signal is Gaussian, such as in the case of speech processing. In this paper, we explore a statistical analysis of the SR algorithm. Under the assumption that signals involved are zero-mean and Gaussian, and further employing the commonly used independence assumption, we derive a set of nonlinear evolution equations that characterizes the mean and mean-squared behavior of the SR algorithm. Experimental results that show very good agreement with our theoretical derivations are also presented.
The gridless (or meshfree) methods, such as MPS, SPH, FPM an so forth, are feasible and robust for the problems with moving boundary and/or complicated boundary shapes, because these methods do not need to generate a grid system. In this study, a gridless solver, which is based on the combination of moving least square interpolations on a cloud of points with point collocation for evaluating the derivatives of governing equations, is presented for two-dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes problem in the low Reynolds number. A MAC-type algorithm was adopted and the Poission equation for the pressure was solved successively in the moving least square sense. Some typical problems were solved by the presented solver for the validation and the results obtained were compared with analytic solutions and the numerical results by conventional CFD methods, such as a FVM.
Alternative splicing (AS) is an important mechanism of producing transcriptome diversity and microarray techniques are being used increasingly to monitor the splice variants. There exist three types of microarrays interrogating AS events-junction, exon, and tiling arrays. Junction probes have the advantage of monitoring the splice site directly. Johnson et al., performed a genome-wide survey of human alternative pre-mRNA splicing with exon junction microarrays (Science 302:2141-2144, 2003), which monitored splicing at every known exon-exon junctions for more than 10,000 multi-exon human genes in 52 tissues and cell lines. Here, we describe an algorithm to deduce the relative concentration of isoforms from the junction array data. Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is applied to obtain the transcript structure inferred from the expression data. Then we choose the transcript models consistent with the ECgene model of alternative splicing which is based on mRNA and EST alignment. The probe-transcript matrix is constructed using the NMF-consistent ECgene transcripts, and the isoform abundance is deduced from the non-negative least squares (NNLS) fitting of experimental data. Our method can be easily extended to other types of microarrays with exon or junction probes.

The In this paper, we have made numerical experiments to compare 2D image reconstruction algorithm of earth model by electrical resistance tomograpy (ERT). Gauss-Newton, simultaneous iterative reconstruction technieque (SIRT) and truncated least squares (TLS) approaches for Wenner and Schlumberger electrode arrays are presented for the solution of the ERT image reconstruction. Computer simulations show that the Gauss-Newton and TLS approach in ERT are proper for 2D image reconstruction of an earth model.
Though the airborne laser scanning (ALS) technique is becoming more popular in many applications, horizontal accuracy of points scanned by the ALS is not yet satisfactory when compared with the accuracy achieved for vertical positions. One of the major reasons is the drift that occurs in the inertial measurement unit (IMU) during the scanning. This paper presents an algorithm that adjusts for the error that is introduced mainly by the drift of the IMU that renders systematic differences between strips on the same area. For this, we set up an observation equation for strip-wise adjustments and completed it with tie point and control point coordinates derived from the scanned strips and information from aerial photos. To effectively capture the tie points, we developed a set of procedures that constructs a digital surface model (DSM) with breaklines and then performed feature-based matching on strips resulting in a set of reliable tie points. Solving the observation equations by the least squares method produced a set of affine transformation equations with 6 parameters that we used to transform the strips for adjusting the horizontal error. Experimental results after evaluation of the accuracy showed a root mean squared error (RMSE) of the adjusted strip points of 0.27 m, which is significant considering the RMSE before adjustment was 0.77 m.
Stereo matching is one of the most crucial parts in DEM generation. Naive stereo matching algorithms often create many holes and blunders in a DEM and therefore a carefully designed strategy must be employed to guide stereo matching algorithms to produce “good” 3D information. In this paper, we describe one such a strategy designed by the use of scene geometry, in particular, the epipolarity for generation of a DEM from linear pushbroom images. The epipolarity for perspective images is a well-known property, i.e., in a stereo image pair, a point in the reference image will map to a line in the search image uniquely defined by sensor models of the image pair. This concept has been utilized in stereo matching by applying epipolar resampling prior to matching. However, the epipolar matching for linear pushbroom images is rather complicated. It was found that the epipolarity can only be described by a Hyperbola- shaped curve and that epipolar resampling cannot be applied to linear pushbroom images. Instead, we have developed an algorithm of incorporating such epipolarity directly in least squares correlation matching. Experiments showed that this approach could improve the quality of a DEM.

The main aim of this study is to predict the compressive and flexural strengths of self-compacting mortar (SCM) containing $nano-SiO_2$, $nano-Fe_2O_3$ and nano-CuO using wavelet-based weighted least squares-support vector machines (WLS-SVM) approach which is called WWLS-SVM. The WWLS-SVM regression model is a relatively new metamodel has been successfully introduced as an excellent machine learning algorithm to engineering problems and has yielded encouraging results. In order to achieve the aim of this study, first, the WLS-SVM and WWLS-SVM models are developed based on a database. In the database, nine variables which consist of cement, sand, NS, NF, NC, superplasticizer dosage, slump flow diameter and V-funnel flow time are considered as the input parameters of the models. The compressive and flexural strengths of SCM are also chosen as the output parameters of the models. Finally, a statistical analysis is performed to demonstrate the generality performance of the models for predicting the compressive and flexural strengths. The numerical results show that both of these metamodels have good performance in the desirable accuracy and applicability. Furthermore, by adopting these predicting metamodels, the considerable cost and time-consuming laboratory tests can be eliminated.
