  • Due to the 4th industrial revolution and an aged society, many studies are being conducted to apply virtual reality to medical field. Research on dementia is especially active. This paper proposes virtual reality based on cognitive rehabilitation contents using image recognition and clustering method to improve cognitive and physical disabilities caused by dementia. Unlike the existing cognitive rehabilitation system, this paper uses travel photos that reflect the memories of the subjects to be treated. In order to generate automated cognitive rehabilitation contents, we extract face information, food pictures, place information, and time information from photographs, and normalization is performed for clustering. And we present scenarios that can be used as cognitive rehabilitation contents using travel photos in virtual reality space.

  • This study proposes an image-based Pose Intention Network (PIN) algorithm for rehabilitation via patients' intentions. The purpose of the PIN algorithm is for enabling an active rehabilitation exercise, which is implemented by estimating the patient's motion and classifying the intention. Existing rehabilitation involves the inconvenience of attaching a sensor directly to the patient's skin. In addition, the rehabilitation device moves the patient, which is a passive rehabilitation method. Our algorithm consists of two steps. First, we estimate the user's joint position through the OpenPose algorithm, which is efficient in estimating 2D human pose in an image. Second, an intention classifier is constructed for classifying the motions into three categories, and a sequence of images including joint information is used as input. The intention network also learns correlations between joints and changes in joints over a short period of time, which can be easily used to determine the intention of the motion. To implement the proposed algorithm and conduct real-world experiments, we collected our own dataset, which is composed of videos of three classes. The network is trained using short segment clips of the video. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is effective for classifying intentions based on a short video clip.

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effect of a web-based education program for schizophrenic patients in order to identify symptoms, facilitate medication and prevent recurrence. Method: The design of this study was a quasi experimental research with nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were inpatients in the psychiatric day hospitals in Busan; 14 schizophrenic patients for the web-based education group (Exp.I); 14 schizophrenic patients for the web-based education with face -to- face education (Exp.II); and 16 schizophrenic patients for the face -to- face education as control group (Con. G). The data were collected from November 5th 2007 to January 28th 2008 and were analyzed with $\chi^2$-test, ANOVA, ANCOVA and Bonferroni test in SPSS Win 11.0. Results: After receiving education, each with different methods, the Exp.I group attained the highest learning achievement in the knowledge of medication and symptom management. In addition, the Exp.I group and Exp.II group attained the lower scores in the relapse warning symptoms than the control group. There were significant differences among the three groups. Conclusions: A web-based learning program for medication and symptom management education is an effective rehabilitation program that reduces the relapse rate of schizophrenic patients.

  • Purpose: We studied the changes in motor response time and stop signal response time following visuomotor skill learning of a stop signal task in young healthy subjects. This study also was designed to determine what an effective practice is for different stop signals in the stop signal task (SST). Methods: Forty-five right-handed normal volunteers without a history of neurological dysfunction were recruited. They all gave written informed consent. In all subjects, motor reaction time (RT) and stop signal reaction time (SSRT) were measured for the stop signal task. Tasks were classified into three categories: predictable-stop signal task (P-SST) practice group random-stop signal task (R-SST) practice group control group. Results: Motor reaction time in the P-SST was significantly reduced when comparing pre- and post-tests (p<0.05). Stop signal reaction times in the P-SST and the R-SST were significantly reduced following motor skill learning (p<0.05). Also, the reaction time of the R-SST was shorter than that of the P-SST. Conclusion: These findings indicate that practice of an SST improves motor performance and stop function for some stop signals in the SST. P-SST practice was effective in the stop function of regular movement because of faster of the motor prediction and preparation but the R-SST was effective in the stop function of movements because of faster motor selection.

  • With the recent COVID-19 situation, countries are seriously feeling the need for medical personnel and their technologies. PDepending on the aging society, the number of medical staff is actually decreasing, and in order to solve this problem, research is needed to replace the part that does not require high expertise among actual medical practices performed by doctors. This paper describes and proposes actual research methods related to unmanned medical systems that use various deep learning image processing-based technologies to check the recovery status applicable to rehabilitation areas where medical staff should face patients directly. The proposed method replaces passive calculations such as a protractor or a method of drawing a line in a photograph, which is the method used for actual motion comparison. Since it is performed in real time, it helps to diagnose quickly, and it is easy for medical staff to provide necessary information because data on the degree of match of motion performance can be checked.

  • Although the narrative development and the acquisition of the Korean grammatical morphemes by monolingual Korean-speaking children have been studied extensively, little is known about the narrative characteristics and the processes through which native speakers of other languages (L2 speakers) use the Korean grammatical morphemes. To understand the similarities and differences between L1 and L2 narrative skills and Korean grammatical morpheme use, 13 native Chinese-speaking college students who are learning Korean as a second language were studied. L2 participants used significantly fewer words, subordinate clauses, connective morphological endings, and pronouns per T-unit. Their speech also illustrated significantly more omission and confusion (substitution) errors in the use of auxiliary words and verb endings. Some of the syntactic and morphological factors need to be considered for the intervention of speakers with limited Korean proficiency.

  • This paper investigates the empirical implications. The research question of this study is to verify the influences of psychological and environmental factors toward performance satisfaction and durability of learning in E-Learning University. For empirical verification, a survey was conducted targeting 500 students in E-learning Universities. The results show that actional environment on academic satisfaction in learning is the most important factor followed by physical environment, internal motivation, and academic burnout. The effect of psychological factors on learning persistence was important in the order of academic vision, internal motivation, actional environment and physical environment. The effect of academic satisfaction on learning durability proved to be statistically significant. The results suggest that actional environment should be considered with top priority to increase the academic satisfaction. learning satisfaction, academic vision, and academic satisfaction to enhance students' intention to continue studies are important. Academic burnout has a negative effect on both academic satisfaction and learning persistence, suggesting that this aspect should be properly addresses. The effects of student background variables in E-learning were explored.

  • Purpose: Numerous investigators demonstrated that adaptative changes were induced by motor skill acquisition in the central nervous system. We investigated the changes of neuroelectric potential following motor learning with serial reaction time task in young healthy subjects, using electroencephalography (EEG). Methods: Twelve right-handed normal volunteers were recruited, who have no history of neurological dysfunction and were given to written the informed consent. All subjects were assigned to flex to extend the wrist joint or flex the thumb for pressing the matched button as quickly and accurately as possible, when one of five colored lights was displayed on computer screen (red, yellow, green, blue, white). EEG was measured, whenfive types simulations ware presented randomly with equal probabilities of 20% in total 200 times at the pre and post test. And they were scheduled for 30 minutes practice session during two consecutive days in the laboratory. Results: The results showed that the reaction time at the post test was significantly reduced, compared to one of the pre test in serial reaction time task. In EEG map analysis, the broaden bilateral activation tended to be changed to the focused contralateral activation in the frontoparietal area. Conclusion: These findings showed that acquisition of motor skill led to product more fast motor execution, and that motor learning could change cortical activation pattern, from the broaden bilateral activation to the focused contralateral activation. Thus we concluded that the adaptative change was induced by motor learning in healthy subjects.
