With the automation of production lines in the manufacturing industry, the importance of real-time fault diagnosis of facility is increasing. In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis algorithm of LM (Linear Motion)-guide based on deep learning using vibration signals. Generally, in order to guarantee the performance of the deep learning, it is necessary to have a sufficient amount of data, but in a manufacturing industry, it is often difficult to obtain enough data due to physical and time constraints. To solve this problem, we propose a convolutional neural networks (CNN) model based on transfer learning. In addition, the spectrogram image is input to the CNN to reflect the frequency characteristic of the vibration signals with time. The performance of fault diagnosis according to various load condition and transfer learning method was compared and evaluated by experiments. The results showed that the proposed algorithm exhibited an excellent performance.
Traditional manual identification of crop leaf diseases is challenging. Owing to the limitations in manpower and resources, it is challenging to explore crop diseases on a large scale. The emergence of artificial intelligence technologies, particularly the extensive application of deep learning technologies, is expected to overcome these challenges and greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of crop disease identification. Crop leaf disease identification models have been designed and trained using large-scale training data, enabling them to predict different categories of diseases from unlabeled crop leaves. However, these models, which possess strong feature representation capabilities, require substantial training data, and there is often a shortage of such datasets in practical farming scenarios. To address this issue and improve the feature learning abilities of models, this study proposes a deep transfer learning adaptation strategy. The novel proposed method aims to transfer the weights and parameters from pre-trained models in similar large-scale training datasets, such as ImageNet. ImageNet pre-trained weights are adopted and fine-tuned with the features of crop leaf diseases to improve prediction ability. In this study, we collected 16,060 crop leaf disease images, spanning 12 categories, for training. The experimental results demonstrate that an impressive accuracy of 98% is achieved using the proposed method on the transferred ResNet-50 model, thereby confirming the effectiveness of our transfer learning approach.
In this paper, a method for improving the defect classification performance in low contrast, ununiformity and featureless steel plate surfaces has been studied based on deep convolution neural network and transfer-learning neural network. The steel plate surface images have low contrast, ununiformity, and featureless, so that the contrast between defect and defect-free regions are not discriminated. These characteristics make it difficult to extract the feature of the surface defect image. A classifier based on a deep convolution neural network is constructed to extract features automatically for effective classification of images with these characteristics. As results of the experiment, AlexNet-based transfer-learning classifier showed excellent classification performance of 99.43% with less than 160 seconds of training time. The proposed classification system showed excellent classification performance for low contrast, ununiformity, and featureless surface images.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to measure the accumulated status of scrap boxes where metal scraps are accumulated. The accumulated status measuring is defined as a multi-class classification problem, and the method with deep learning classify the accumulated status using only the scrap box image. The learning was conducted by the Transfer Learning method, and the deep learning model was NASNet-A. In order to improve the accuracy of the model, we combined the Random Forest classifier with the trained NASNet-A and improved the model through post-processing. Testing with 4,195 data collected in the field showed 55% accuracy when only NASNet-A was applied, and the proposed method, NASNet with Random Forest, improved the accuracy by 88%.

Recently, many studies using reinforcement learning-based autoscaling have been performed to make autoscaling policies that are adaptive to changes in the environment and meet specific purposes. However, training the reinforcement learning-based Horizontal Pod Autoscaler(HPA) policy in a real environment requires a lot of money and time. And it is not practical to retrain the reinforcement learning-based HPA policy from scratch every time in a real environment. In this paper, we implement a reinforcement learning-based HPA in Kubernetes, and propose a transfer leanring technique using a queuing model-based simulation to accelerate the training of a reinforcement learning-based HPA policy. Pre-training using simulation enabled training the policy through simulation experience without consuming time and resources in the real environment, and by using the transfer learning technique, the cost was reduced by about 42.6% compared to the case without transfer learning technique.

Teachers expect team-based project learning to help students develop collaborative and real-world problem solving skills. In practice, however, students tend to solve problems with simple division of labor, and there is a tendency that learning transfer does not occur in solving problems. The purpose of this study is to develop a collaborative learning model based on the transactive memory system (TMS) and to verify its effectiveness. The collaborative learning model based on the TMS is composed of three stages. The first stage is developing TMS. In this stage, the students learn physics concepts and make knowledge about the expertise of group members through peer instruction. The second stage, activating TMS, is building trust through solving well-defined problems for developing near-transfer. And in the third stage, applying TMS, the students solve an ill-defined problem based on real-world context for practicing far-transfer. Based on this model, a 15-week program including two projects on geometric optics and sound waves was developed and applied to 60 college students. The data for five weeks of one project were collected and analyzed. As a result, the TMS of the experimental group with the TMS-based collaborative learning model improved stepwise. Whereas, the difference between the first week and the last week was statistically significant, while the TMS change of the comparison group using the general project learning model was not significant. Also, the experimental group showed that the learning transfer occurred better in the project than the comparison group. A collaborative learning model based on TMS can be used to learn how students gain synergy through collaboration and how students collaboratively transfer the learned concepts in problem solving.
This paper investigates the comparative effectiveness of two kinds of instructional methods in transfer of mathematics learning: one based on the situated cognition, ie. situated learning and the other based on traditional learning. Two classes of second graders studied the instruction about 3-digit addition and subtraction. After that, they completed two written tests and a real situation test. As a result. no significant differences were found between the two group's performance on the written test 1 and real situation test. But the situated learning group performed significantly better on the performance of story problem than traditional group. This result indicated that the situated learning made improvement in transfer of mathematic loaming. As a result of interviews with 12 children, the situated loaming group's children were able to use contextual resources in solving real situation as well as story problems.
Many deep learning approaches have been studied for image classification in computer vision. However, there are not enough data to generate accurate models in medical fields, and many datasets are not annotated. This study presents a new method that can use both unlabeled and labeled data. The proposed method is applied to classify cervix images into normal versus cancerous, and we demonstrate the results. First, we use a patch self-supervised learning for training the global context of the image using an unlabeled image dataset. Second, we generate a classifier model by using the transferred knowledge from self-supervised learning. We also apply attention learning to capture the local features of the image. The combined method provides better performance than state-of-the-art approaches in accuracy and sensitivity.
In this paper, we propose a method to classify the skeletal maturity with a small amount of hand wrist X-ray image using deep learning-based meta-learning. General deep-learning techniques require large amounts of data, but in many cases, these data sets are not available for practical application. Lack of learning data is usually solved through transfer learning using pre-trained models with large data sets. However, transfer learning performance may be degraded due to over fitting for unknown new task with small data, which results in poor generalization capability. In addition, medical images require high cost resources such as a professional manpower and mcuh time to obtain labeled data. Therefore, in this paper, we use meta-learning that can classify using only a small amount of new data by pre-trained models trained with various learning tasks. First, we train the meta-model by using a separate data set composed of various learning tasks. The network learns to classify the bone maturity using the bone maturity data composed of the radiographs of the wrist. Then, we compare the results of the classification using the conventional learning algorithm with the results of the meta learning by the same number of learning data sets.
An artificial neural network model based on a deep learning algorithm is known to be more accurate than humans in image classification, but there is still a limit in the sense that there needs to be a lot of training data that can be called big data. Therefore, various techniques are being studied to build an artificial neural network model with high precision, even with small data. The transfer learning technique is assessed as an excellent alternative. As a result, the purpose of this study is to develop an artificial neural network system that can classify burr images of light guide plate products with 99% accuracy using transfer learning technique. Specifically, for the light guide plate product, 150 images of the normal product and the burr were taken at various angles, heights, positions, etc., respectively. Then, after the preprocessing of images such as thresholding and image augmentation, for a total of 3,300 images were generated. 2,970 images were separated for training, while the remaining 330 images were separated for model accuracy testing. For the transfer learning, a base model was developed using the NASNet-Large model that pre-trained 14 million ImageNet data. According to the final model accuracy test, the 99% accuracy in the image classification for training and test images was confirmed. Consequently, based on the results of this study, it is expected to help develop an integrated AI production management system by training not only the burr but also various defective images.
