  • Objectives We aimed to compare the bone age (BA) estimation by a deep learning-based program and by a specialist in pediatrics of Korean medicine using the Tanner-Whitehouse 3 (TW3) technique for the cases of children who visited a Korean medicine hospital for growth, and to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment. Methods For three children who visited the Korean medicine hospital for growth, BA estimation by the deep learning program and by the specialist in pediatrics of Korean medicine using the TW3 technique was compared, and the time required for estimation was investigated. The change of height, BA, and predicted adult height (PAH) using deep learning program after Korean medicine treatment was observed. Results BA estimation of the left hand bone X-ray by the specialist using the TW3 technique showed a difference of -0.03 to +0.15 years from the estimation by the deep learning program. The mean estimation time was 5 minutes and 49 seconds per one for the specialist and 48 seconds for the deep learning program. During the treatment period, the height percentile and PAH estimated by deep learning program were increased after Korean medicine treatment compared to baseline while acceleration of BA was suppressed compared to chronological age. Conclusions BA estimation using the deep learning program and the TW3 technique showed a difference of less than 0.15 years, and in three cases of patients with growth as the chief complaint, Korean medicine treatment increased height percentile and PAH without accelerating BA maturation.

  • The aim of this study focused on student-centered learning not teacher-centered teaching in middle school math classes. This study was performed to check the growth of students' problem-solving abilities, learning attitudes and changes in learning motivation among affective characteristics. The results of this study is as followings: 1) The controlled group a heterogeneous group which had classes in a math room, had more meaningful growth than the uncontrolled group. The results of the study show that the problem-solving abilities of the high-leveled group were better than those of the low-leveled group. 2) The controlled group has shown meaningful difference in their mean in learning aptitude test and attitude test converted their score into 100 points than uncontrolled group, and various kinds of learning materials suitable for problem solving are proved as a good learning factor to induce students' motivation and interest. 3) Students prefer to have classes in a math room to the small-sized and large-numbered classrooms. The atmosphere in a math room is more suitable to improving their problem-solving abilities. In this context, the classes performed in a math room are fairly positive. Consequently, students' leveled learning activities performed in a math room can get their learning motivation and attention from those who are lack of interest and think math is difficult and be effective to increase their problem-solving abilities as a learning method for acquiring the whole course of solving the problems.

  • The knowledge based economy requires more and more people to learn new knowledge and skills in a timely and effective manner. These needs and new technology such as computer and Internet are fueling a transition in e-learning. According to specialist's opinion, imagination experience studying is generalized, and learning environment that language barrier by studying, multi-language studying Machine that experience past things that disappear through simulation, and travel area, and experience future changed state disappears is forecasting to come. This is previewing finally that it may become future education that education and IT, element of entertainment is combined. Already, became story that argument for party satellite of e-Learning existence passes one season already. e-Learning is utilized already in all educations that we touch by effectiveness by corporation's competitive power improvement and implement of lifelong education in educational institutions through present e-Learning. It is obvious that when see from our viewpoint which is defining e-Learning by one industry and rear by application to education as well as one new growth power about these, e-Learning industry becomes very important means that can solve dilemma of growth real form. Only, special quality of digital industry that e-Learning is being same with other digital industry and repeat putting out a fire rapidly, and is repeating sudden change that these evolution is not gradual growth of accumulation and improvement of technology that is appearing consider need to. In the meantime, we need to observe about evolution of Information Technology. Because there is some scholars who e-Learning's concept foresees to evolve by u-Learning.(although, a person who see that these concept is not more in marketing terminology by some scholars' opinion is). This u-Learning's concept means e-Learning that take advantage of ubiquitous technology as Ubiquitous-Learning's curtailment speech. Ubiquitous, user means Information-Communication surrounding that can connect to network freely regardless of place without feeling network or computer. There is controversy about introduction time regarding these direction, but e-Learning is judged to evolve by u-Learning necessarily. Because keep in step and age that study all contents that learner wants under environment of 3A (any time, any whrer, any device) by individual order thoroughly is foreseen to come in ubiquitous learning environment that approach more festinately.

  • In this study, we sought to compare and evaluate the accuracy and predictive performance of machine learning algorithms for estimating the growth of individual Larix kaempferi trees in Gangwon Province, Korea. We employed linear regression, random forest, XGBoost, and LightGBM algorithms to predict tree growth using monitoring data organized based on different thinning intensities. Furthermore, we compared and evaluated the goodness-of-fit of these models using metrics such as the coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RMSE). The results revealed that XGBoost provided the highest goodness-of-fit, with an R2 value of 0.62 across all thinning intensities, while also yielding the lowest values for MAE and RMSE, thereby indicating the best model fit. When predicting the growth volume of individual trees after 3 years using the XGBoost model, the agreement was exceptionally high, reaching approximately 97% for all stand sites in accordance with the different thinning intensities. Notably, in non-thinned plots, the predicted volumes were approximately 2.1 m3 lower than the actual volumes; however, the agreement remained highly accurate at approximately 99.5%. These findings will contribute to the development of growth prediction models for individual trees using machine learning algorithms.

  • Through a literature review, this study examined the concept of slow learners and the lifelong learning characteristics of slow learners, and sought ways to achieve successful lifelong learning by utilizing grit and growth mindset among non-cognitive characteristics. Slow learners were experiencing difficulties in cognitive, academic, linguistic, social and emotional, and behavioral characteristics. For successful lifelong learning of slow learners, it was necessary to set long-term goals rather than short-term goals and to maintain effort and consistency of interest to achieve the goals. In addition, it was confirmed that in order to achieve long-term goals, it is necessary to believe that change can be achieved through effort and learning. In other words, the need for learning using grit and growth mindset was confirmed. Based on these previous research results, it was presented as a lifelong learning strategy for slow learners that applied grit and growth mindset, which are non-cognitive characteristics, rather than cognitive characteristics such as intelligence.

  • This paper aims to show the learning process and the educational effects of Divide-and-Combine principles and State Models, which are included in the Butterfly Model for creative problem solving. In our State Models, there are Time State Model, Space State Model, and Whole-Parts State Model. We have taught middle school students (for 18 hours), high school students (for 24 hours), and undergraduate students (for 1 semester) about our proposed Models when they solved contradiction problems. Also, we have made the students learn our contradiction resolution algorithms by themselves based on team-based discussion. By learning and by using our Models, the students had the higher level of expertise in contradiction problems and had the growth mindset that made them have confidence in themselves and kept them challenging themselves about problems. Also, learning and solving with our Models improved the students' growth mindset as well as their problem-solving ability.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of case-based learning application in human growth development classes on nursing students' problem-solving ability, self-directed learning ability, and academic self-efficacy. Methods : The research method was a self-report questionnaire before and after case-based learning for second-year nursing students who took the human growth development course at U University in K city. The collected data were statistically processed using SPSS WIN 21.0. Results : The results of the study showed that after case-based learning, problem-solving ability, self-directed learning ability, and academic self-efficacy were all significantly improved. In addition, as a result of examining the correlation between each variable after case-based learning, problem solving ability score and self-directed learning ability score (r=.54, p<.01), and problem solving ability scores and academic self-efficacy scores (r=.44, p<.01), were significantly correlated with self-directed learning ability scores and the academic self-efficacy reduction scores (r=.76, p<.01). Conclusion : The results of this study suggested the need for various learning programs such as case-based learning to improve nursing students' problem-solving abilities and self-directed learning abilities and their application. In addition, to improve the learning self-efficacy of nursing students, a continuous and systematic study is suggested to develop and apply customized educational programs according to the learners' preferences. Since the sample group in this study was limited to one university, there were few cases and no control group, so there are limitations in generalizing the test effect, However, significant differences a were verified in the case-based learning pre-tests and post-tests.
