A Study on the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Elementary Science Education (초등과학교육에서 인공지능의 적용방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school teachers' awareness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and find out how to apply it in elementary science education. The survey was conducted online and involved 95 teachers working in the metropolitan area. The results of this study are as follows. First, teachers need to learn about the general characteristics of AI and how to apply it to education. Second, science classes had the highest preference for AI among elementary school subjects. Third, the preference for AI application by elementary science field was 68.4% for earth and space, 54.7% for exercise and energy, 32.6% for matter, 27.4% for life. Fourth, AI-based Science Education (AISE) teaching- learning strategies were developed based on AI characteristics and the changing perspective of elementary science education, AISE's teaching-learning strategies are five: 'automation', 'individualization', 'diversification', 'cooperation' and 'creativity' and teachers can use them in teaching design, class practice and evaluation stages. Finally, the creative problem-solving Doing Thinking Making Sharing (DTMS) model was devised to implement the creativity strategy in AISE. This model consists of four-steps teaching courses: Doing, Thinking, Making and Sharing based on the empirical learning theory. In the future, follow-up research is needed to verify the effectiveness of this model by applying it to elementary science education.

  • The rapid growth of deep-learning applications has invoked the R&D of artificial intelligence (AI) processors. A dedicated software framework such as a compiler and runtime APIs is required to achieve maximum processor performance. There are various compilers and frameworks for AI training and inference. In this study, we present the features and characteristics of AI compilers, training frameworks, and inference engines. In addition, we focus on the internals of compiler frameworks, which are based on either basic linear algebra subprograms or intermediate representation. For an in-depth insight, we present the compiler infrastructure, internal components, and operation flow of ETRI's "AI-Ware." The software framework's significant role is evidenced from the optimized neural processing unit code produced by the compiler after various optimization passes, such as scheduling, architecture-considering optimization, schedule selection, and power optimization. We conclude the study with thoughts about the future of state-of-the-art AI compilers.

  • Since the launch of AI, technology development to implement complete and sophisticated AI functions has continued. In efforts to develop technologies for complete automation, Machine Learning techniques and deep learning techniques are mainly used. These techniques deal with supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning as internal technical elements, and use the Big-data Analysis method again to set the cornerstone for decision-making. In addition, established decision-making is being improved through subsequent repetition and renewal of decision-making standards. In other words, big data analysis, which enables data classification and recognition/recognition, is important enough to be called a key technical element of AI function. Therefore, big data analysis itself is important and requires sophisticated analysis. In this study, among various tools that can analyze big data, we will use a Python program to find out what variables can affect addiction according to smartphone use in a decision tree environment. We the Python program checks whether data classification by decision tree shows the same performance as other tools, and sees if it can give reliability to decision-making about the addictiveness of smartphone use. Through the results of this study, it can be seen that there is no problem in performing big data analysis using any of the various statistical tools such as Python and R when analyzing big data.

  • Generative AI has arrived and it's here. Education, research, industry, and labor are all on edge about the changes it will bring. It is noteworthy that while there is a wide range of optimistic and pessimistic predictions about the impact of generative AI, there is more concern than hope when it comes to education. This paper focuses on the lack of discussion on the impact of AI in higher education. First, we reviewed the process of the emergence of generative AI and introduced how the impact of AI is being understood from various perspectives. Second, we classified work areas based on expertise and efficiency and analyzed the impact of AI on work in each area. Finally, the study found that the educational perception of generative AI and the way it is perceived for engineering education purposes can be very different. It also argued that there is a lack of active discussion and debate on areas that need to be specifically discussed around generative AI. This has led to a phenomenon known as professors' delayed indifference. We emphasized that it is time for a serious and realistic discussion on the connection and integration of AI and education.

Comparative Evaluation of Machine Learning Models for Predicting Soccer Injury Types

  • Soccer is type of sport that carries a high risk of injury. Injury is not only cause in the unlucky soccer carrier and also team performance as well as financial effects can be worse since soccer is a team-based game. The duration of recovery from a soccer injury typically relies on its type and severity. Therefore, we conduct this research in order to predict the probability of players injury type using machine learning technologies in this paper. Furthermore, we compare different machine learning models to find the best fit model. This paper utilizes various supervised classification machine learning models, including Decision Tree, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Naive Bayes. Moreover, based on our finding the KNN and Decision models achieved the highest accuracy rates at 70%, surpassing other models. The Random Forest model followed closely with an accuracy score of 62%. Among the evaluated models, the Naive Bayes model demonstrated the lowest accuracy at 56%. We gathered information about 54 professional soccer players who are playing in the top five European leagues based on their career history.   • Major countries in the world have established strategies for educating about artificial intelligence(AI) and with large investments are actively implementing these strategies. With this trend, domestic ministries have made efforts to establish national strategies to better educate students about AI. This paper presents the syllabus of AI classrooms which has been developed and presented to pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers for their use. In addition, the AI education tools they particularly preferred and their future plans for utilizing them in the elementary school classroom were investigated. Through this study, it was found that pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers strongly prefer lectures about AI education tools that can be immediately applied in the classroom, rather than learning about the theoretical basis of AI. At issue, however, is that the ability to utilize AI is usually based on a sufficient understanding of the theory. Thus, this paper suggests further study to identify better pedagogical practices to improve students' understanding the theoretical basis of AI.

  • This research presented an implementation of autostereoscopic virtual three-dimensional (3D) button device as non-contact style. The proposed device has several characteristics about visible feature, non-contact use and artificial intelligence (AI) engine. The device was designed to be contactless to prevent virus contamination and consists of 3D buttons in a virtual stereoscopic view. To specify the button pressed virtually by fingertip pointing, a simple deep learning network having two stages without convolution filters was designed. As confirmed in the experiment, if the input data composition is clearly designed, the deep learning network does not need to be configured so complexly. As the results of testing and evaluation by the certification institute, the proposed button device shows high reliability and stability.

  • In this study, we generate future full disk magnetograms in 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours advance from SDO/HMI images using deep learning. To perform this generation, we apply the convolutional generative adversarial network (cGAN) algorithm to a series of SDO/HMI magnetograms. We use SDO/HMI data from 2011 to 2016 for training four models. The models make AI-generated images for 2017 HMI data and compare them with the actual HMI magnetograms for evaluation. The AI-generated images by each model are very similar to the actual images. The average correlation coefficient between the two images for about 600 data sets are about 0.85 for four models. We are examining hundreds of active regions for more detail comparison. In the future we will use pix2pix HD and video2video translation networks for image prediction.

  • This paper is about the development of kiosks that provide four types of service. Simple UI and educational videos solve the complexity of existing kiosks and provide an intuitive and convenient screen to users. In addition, the AR function, which is a three-dimensional form, shows directions and store representative images. After storing user information in the DB, a learning model is generated using user-based KNN collaborative filtering to provide a recommendation menu. As a result, it is possible to increase user convenience through kiosks using metaverse and AI recommendation services. It is also expected to solve digital alienation of social classes who have difficulty using kiosks.

  • Artificial intelligence is considered one of the core technologies leading the 4th industrial revolution. It is adopted in various fields bringing about a huge paradigm shift throughout our society. The field of biotechnology is no exception. It is undergoing innovative development by converging with other disciplines such as computers, electricity, electronics, and so on. In drug discovery and development, big data-based AI technology has a great potential of improving the efficiency and quality of drug development, rapidly advancing to overcome the limitations in the existing drug development process. AI technology is to be specialized and developed for the purpose including clinical efficacy and safety-related end points based on the multidisciplinary knowledge such as biology, chemistry, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, etc. In this paper, we review the current status of AI technology applied for drug discovery and consider its limitations and future direction.
