The science writing is recognized for useful learning method to boost up scientific thinking for all class course as well as traditional lecture and experiment. Many researches say that science writing is helpful to extend students' science knowledge and scientific attitude. By the way, the researchers thought that science writing can also improve the science process skill if students participate in delicately organized learning program. In this study, we had contrived the teaching & learning strategy of science writing to improve science process skills. The learning program covers all field of Klopfer's process skills with various forms of writing; explaining writing, logical writing, critical writing, and creative writing. The learning program has been developed for 5th grade students in the regular classes in order to enhance science process skills as well as knowledge and scientific attitude. Not to miss any process skill or various kinds of writing, we used 3 dimensional frame. The axes of the frames are science process skills, forms of writing, and science curriculum contents. The students are given the final writing theme at the beginning of each chapter. They drill science process skills step by step during the classes, and have a chance to talk each other before the final writing. They practice writing skills from one sentence to full article by degrees. The effect of the program was examined by students' work and TSPS (Test of Science Process Skill). The result showed that 5th grade students had a meaningful progress in science process skills as well as knowledge and scientific attitude. we could confirm it with examining students' work in the class.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of co-regulated learning on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. One group pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The subjects were 49 undergraduate students who enrolled in 'Educational Evaluation' course. To facilitate students' co-regulated learning activities, group worksheets were developed. Students performed collaborative tasks in group by using the group worksheets over the 6 weeks. The results showed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest was no statistically significant. It indicates that co-regulated learning activities did not have a significant effect on the improvement of self-regulated learning skills in collaborative learning environments. However, the results of additional analysis revealed that the difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with low self-regulated learning level was statistically significant. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference between means of the pretest and posttest in case of 19 students with high self-regulated learning level. It is interpreted that co-regulated learning activities positively affected the improvement of self-regulated learning skills of students with low self-regulated learning level.

The current research aims to identify the effectiveness of a training program based on digital stories to develop writing skills for students with learning difficulties. The research sample consisted of (12) students with learning difficulties in the fifth and sixth grades, who were chosen intentionally. The results showed the effectiveness of the program and the maintenance of this improvement over time as results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the two measurements, before and after, in favor of the post-measurement. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the post and follow-up measurements on the writing skills scale. This indicates the long-term impact of the program. The researchers recommend the need to expand educational programs' adoption of digital stories to develop the skills of students with learning difficulties.
This study aims at examining effects of study skills training on elementary school children's self-directed learning ability. To achieve this goal, the following hypotheses were built. Hypothesis 1. There are significant differences in self-directed learning ability between experimental and control groups. Hypothesis 2. There are significant differences in study skills by self-directed learning ability in the experimental group. To test these hypotheses, two classes in the fourth grade were selected from S Elementary School in the city of Busan for experimental and control groups, each of which consisted of 23 children: seven for the advanced group, eight for the intermediate group, and eight for the lower group according to self-directed learning ability. The experimental group participated in twenty sessions of study skills training while the control group went through no treatment. The study skills training program was the reconstruction to meet the requirements of this study in reference to domestic study skills training programs on the basis of the Study Skills Training Program for Elementary School Children in the Higher Grades developed by Byeon and others (2001), The effects of the program was tested by using the Study Skills Test for Elementary School Children in the Higher Grades developed by the educational institute of Busan National University (Bye on et al., 1999) and Lee's (1998) translation of the Self-Directed Learning Preparation Test by Guglielmino (1977) for elementary school children. To analyze the effects of the program, the SPSSWIN (10.0) program was used to carry out ANCOVA on results of pretest and post-test for experimental and control groups, along with repetitive one-way ANOVA to examine differences in results of pretest, post-test, and further test and an individual comparative test (Scheffe) to see differences in means of the three tests. This study obtained the following results. First, there were significant differences in marks for self-directed learning ability between the experimental group participating in study skills training and the control group and the effect was shown to last. Second, in terms of three levels of self-directed learning ability, there was no significant difference between advanced and intermediate groups in the effects on study skills but there were significant differences in the lower group. The results demonstrated that study skills training had a significant effect on their self-directed learning ability. and the study skills training program had a meaningful effect on the lower group.

In this study, explicit Teaching and Learning strategy for middle school students were developed to improve basic science process skills. After applying these strategy in an actual class, the effects of Teaching and Learning strategy and change of students were analyzed. Explicit Teaching and Learning strategy to improve basic science process skills are developed based on analyzing preceding research. The use of application criteria for class of basic science process skills combined with explicit Teaching and Learning strategy, it is sought for the explicit instructional procedures of said skills. After analyzing the class in which explicit Teaching and Learning strategy were demonstrated, students reported that they were able to comprehend basic science process skills more effectively through the stages of explicit explaining and independent practice. The showing demonstration stage was heavily emphasized by the teacher in this class. Analysis of students' understanding degree about basic science process skills, most of them show positive outcome. Another analysis of ripple effect on daily life and other subjects, it is found that students could have the attitude to make use of science process skills for themselves. Through the result of study, it is found that explicit Teaching and Learning strategy that are developed from this study are an effective way to comprehension students' basic science process skills. Thus, continued study is needed to develop and spread explicit Teaching and Learning strategy of science process skills to be applicable in actual classes in secondary schools.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of learning-related skills in kindergarten on school adjustment in first-grade children. Subjects were 119 kindergarten children. Instruments were Learning-Related Skill (Park, 2008) and School Adjustment (Chi & Jung, 2006). Statistical methods were Pearson product moment correlation coefficients and multiple regressions. Results of this study showed that : (1) there were positive relationships between learning-related skill in kindergarten and school adjustment in first-grade children. (2) Cognitive, behavioral, and affective learning-related skills in kindergarten were significant predictors of school adjustment in elementary school Conclusions suggest the importance of learning-related skills in kindergarten.
The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of learning that has applied instruction module utilizing ICT in project-based learning in elementary science classroom on improvement of the self-directed learning skills and the problem-solving skills. For this purpose, the project based learning instruction module utilizing ICT based was developed and conducted to 2 class consisting of 66 elementary students in the 6th grade to clarify the effects. As a result of the study, first, the instruction module utilizing ICT in project-based learning was effective in improving self-directed learning skills of students. As the subordinate effects of self-directed learning skills it showed improved effects in diagnosing desire to learn, setting goals, basic self-managing ability, selecting learning strategy, durability of practicing learning, making effort for result, and self-examination but it did not show improved effects in figuring out recognition of resources for Learning. Second, it was effective in improving the problem-solving skills of students. As the subordinate effects of problem-solving skills it showed improved effects in problem recognition, information gathering, analysis, thinking prior to dissemination, planning skill, and evaluation but it did not show effect on decision making, implementation & risk-taking and feedback.
Melody is defined as adding spatial dimension to the rhythm which is temporal concept. Being able to understand melodic pattern and to reproduce the pattern also requires cognitive skills. Since 1980, there has been much research on the relationship between academic skills and music cognitive skills, and how to transfer the skills learned in music work to the academic learning. The study purported to examine various research outcomes dealing with the correlational and causal relationships between musical and academic skills. The two dominating theories explaining the connection between two skills ares are "neural theory" and "near transfer theory." The theories focus mainly on the transference of spatial and temporal reasoning which are reinforced in the musical learning. The study reviewed the existing meta-analysis studies, which provided evidence for positive correlation between academic and musical skills, and significance of musical learning in academic skills. The study further examined specific skills area that musical learning is correlated, such as mathematics and reading. The research stated that among many mathematical concepts, proportional topics have the strongest correlation with musical skills. Also with reading, temporal processing also has strong relationship with auditory skills and motor skills, and further affect language and literacy ability. The study suggest that skills learned in the musical work can be transferred to other areas of learning and structured music activities may be every efficient for children for facilitating academic concepts.
This study investigated the effects of young children's learning-related skills and the maternal involvement on academic abilities. The sample consisted of 310 children from 7 child-care centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. All variables were measured by the teachers and the mothers of surveyed children. The instrument included the Korean Child Development Inventory(K-CDI) for 4 to 6-year olds and Preschool Learning Behavior Scale(McDermott et al 2000) and the questionnaire on mother's involvement about their children's education. The collected data was analyzed by t-test and hierarchical regression using the SPSS Program. The findings are as follows. First, regardless of the family income level, verbal comprehension and numerical abilities were positively associated with their learning-related skills of young children. Second, the interaction effect of learning-related skills and the mothers' involvement on verbal comprehension of young children in the low-income families was observed. However, no interaction effect was seen in terms of learning-related skills and the maternal involvement on verbal comprehension and numerical abilities of young children in the high-income families. These findings highlight the importance of learning-related skills and their mothers' involvement during the preschool period for the low-income family in improving the early academic achievement.
This is a literature review study on personality traits' role in language learning. Personality traits play an important role in language learning. In order to review research outcomes in recent studies, articles related to language learning and personality traits were collected through research databases such as ProQuest, Google Scholar, and EBSCO. Based on the analysis of collected literature, this study revealed that extraversion and openness to experience are the personality traits leading to the successful language learning. More specifically, extraversion was related to speaking skills while openness to experience was related to listening. It is also important to note which learning strategies are more likely to be utilized in second language learning and personality traits that are more likely to use them. These findings focus on writing skills, listening skills, and speaking skills. Further studies in the field are suggested.
