The learning analytics dashboard (LAD) is a supporting tool for teaching and learning in its personalized, automatic, and visual aspects. While several studies have focused on the effect of using dashboard on learning achievement, there is a research gap concerning the impacts of learners' characteristics on it. Accordingly, this study attempted to verify the differences in learning achievement depending on learning motivation level (high vs. low) and dashboard intervention (use vs. non-use). The final participants were 231 university students enrolled in a basic statistics course. As a research design, a 2 × 2 factorial design was employed. The results showed that learning achievement varied with dashboard intervention and the interaction effect was significant between learning motivation and dashboard intervention. The results imply that the impact of LAD may vary depending on learner characteristics. Consequently, this study suggests that the dashboard interventions should be offered after careful consideration of individual students' differences, particularly their learning motivation.
This study was conducted to understand research trends of HR Analytics (HRA) in Korea and to suggest future research directions. First, a comparative analysis was conducted by classifying six areas of recruitment on-board, work environment, performance evaluation, retention, and exit/retirement building on the employee life cycle framework. The results indicate that first, the distribution of detailed research topics in Korean HRA research has similar to that of international research. Second, Korean HRA studies related to employee training and development function are insufficient. Third, the scope and the method of machine learning are becoming enriched. Finally Korean HRA studies are still in the technical domain and toward entering the predictive analysis domain.
Big data related analysis techniques, the prescriptive analytics methodology improves the performance of passive learning models by ensuring that active learning secures high-quality learning data. Prescriptive analytics is a performance maximizing process by enhancing the machine learning models and optimizing systems through active learning to secure high-quality learning data. It is the best subscription value analysis that constructs the expensive category data efficiently. To expand the value of data by collecting research field, research propensity, and research activity information, customized researcher through prescriptive analysis such as predicting the situation at the time of execution after data pre-processing, deriving viable alternatives, and examining the validity of alternatives according to changes in the situation Provides research information service.
The study aims to examine the effectiveness of flipped learning teaching methods by using learning analytics to enable effective programming learning for non-major students. After designing a flipped learning programming class model applied with the ADDIE model, learning-related data of the lecture support system operated by the school was processed with crawling. By providing data processed with crawling through a dashboard so that the instructor can understand it easily, the instructor can design classes more efficiently and provide individually tailored learning based on this. As a result of analysis based on the learning-related data collected through one semester class, it was found that the department, academic year, attendance, assignment submission, and preliminary/review attendance had an effect on academic achievement. As a result of survey analysis, they responded that the individualized feedback of instructors through learning analysis was very helpful in self-directed learning. It is expected that it will serve as an opportunity for instructors to provide a foundation for enhancing teaching activities. In the future, the contents of social network services related to learners' learning will be processed with crawling to analyze learners' learning situations.
While global manufacturing is becoming more competitive due to variety of customer demand, increase in production cost and uncertainty in resource availability, the future ability of manufacturing industries depends upon the implementation of Smart Factory. With the convergence of new information and communication technology, Smart Factory enables manufacturers to respond quickly to customer demand and minimize resource usage while maximizing productivity performance. This paper presents the development of a big data analytics platform architecture for Smart Factory. As this platform represents a conceptual software structure needed to implement data-driven decision-making mechanism in shop floors, it enables the creation and use of diagnosis, prediction and optimization models through the use of data analytics and big data. The completion of implementing the platform will help manufacturers: 1) acquire an advanced technology towards manufacturing intelligence, 2) implement a cost-effective analytics environment through the use of standardized data interfaces and open-source solutions, 3) obtain a technical reference for time-efficiently implementing an analytics modeling environment, and 4) eventually improve productivity performance in manufacturing systems. This paper also presents a technical architecture for big data infrastructure, which we are implementing, and a case study to demonstrate energy-predictive analytics in a machine tool system.

Learning analytics, or educational data mining, is an emerging field that applies data mining methods and tools for the exploitation of data coming from educational environments. Learning management systems, like Moodle, offer large amounts of data concerning students' activity, performance, behavior, and interaction with their peers and their tutors. The analysis of these data can be elaborated to make decisions that will assist stakeholders (students, faculty, and administration) to elevate the learning process in higher education. In this work, the power of Excel is exploited to analyze data in Moodle, utilizing an e-learning course developed for enhancing the information computer technology skills of school teachers in primary and secondary education in Greece. Moodle log files are appropriately manipulated in order to trace daily and weekly activity of the learners concerning distribution of access to resources, forum participation, and quizzes and assignments submission. Learners' activity was visualized for every hour of the day and for every day of the week. The visualization of access to every activity or resource during the course is also obtained. In this fashion teachers can schedule online synchronous lectures or discussions more effectively in order to maximize the learners' participation. Results depict the interest of learners for each structural component, their dedication to the course, their participation in the fora, and how it affects the submission of quizzes and assignments. Instructional designers may take advice and redesign the course according to the popularity of the educational material and learners' dedication. Moreover, the final grade of the learners is predicted according to their previous grades using multiple linear regression and sensitivity analysis. These outcomes can be suitably exploited in order for instructors to improve the design of their courses, faculty to alter their educational methodology, and administration to make decisions that will improve the educational services provided.
The importance of big data analytics has become apparent with the increasing volume of data on the Internet. The amount of data will increase even more with the widespread use of Internet of Things (IoT). One of the most important application areas of the IoT is healthcare. This study introduces new real-time data analytics architecture for an IoT-based smart healthcare system, which consists of a wireless sensor network and a radio-frequency identification technology in a vertical domain. The proposed platform also includes high-performance data analytics tools, such as Kafka, Spark, MongoDB, and NodeJS, in a horizontal domain. To investigate the performance of the system developed, a diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome by logistic regression is discussed. The results show that the proposed IoT data analytics system can successfully process health data in real-time with an accuracy rate of 95% and it can handle large volumes of data. The developed system also communicates with a riverbed modeler using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to model any IoT-enabling technology. Therefore, the proposed architecture can be used as a time-saving experimental environment for any IoT-based system.
With the increase of education data, there have been many studies on the application of various analytics to improve students' performance and educational environments over the past decade. This paper first introduces the cases of universities that successfully utilize the analysis results and, more specifically, examines which data and analytical techniques are used for each analysis purpose. Based on the findings, the limitations of the current analytics and the direction of future analysis are discussed.

As being the advanced analytics indispensable on big data for agile decision-making and tactical planning in enterprises, distributed processing platforms, such as Hadoop and Spark which distribute and handle the large volume of data on multiple nodes, receive great attention in the field. In Spark platform stack, Spark SQL unveiled recently to make Spark able to support distributed processing framework based on SQL. However, Spark SQL cannot effectively handle advanced analytics that involves machine learning and graph processing in terms of iterative tasks and task allocations. Motivated by these issues, this paper proposes the design of SQL-based big data optimal processing engine and processing framework to support advanced analytics in Spark environments. Big data optimal processing engines copes with complex SQL queries that involves multiple parameters and join, aggregation and sorting operations in distributed/parallel manner and the proposing framework optimizes machine learning process in terms of relational operations.

In recent years, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) models are enjoying great interest as their success in a variety of challenging tasks. Deep Q-Network (DQN) is a widely used deep reinforcement learning model, which trains an intelligent agent that executes optimal actions while interacting with an environment. This model is well known for its ability to surpass skilled human players across many Atari 2600 games. Although DQN has achieved excellent performance in practice, there lacks a clear understanding of why the model works. In this paper, we present a visual analytics system for understanding deep Q-network in a non-blind matter. Based on the stored data generated from the training and testing process, four coordinated views are designed to expose the internal execution mechanism of DQN from different perspectives. We report the system performance and demonstrate its effectiveness through two case studies. By using our system, users can learn the relationship between states and Q-values, the function of convolutional layers, the strategies learned by DQN and the rationality of decisions made by the agent.
