Flicker Prevention and Noise Reduction Using Edge-Spike Modulation in Visible Light Communication

  • In this paper, we introduce an edge-spike modulation method for visible light communication (VLC). This method is effective in preventing LED flicker and 120 Hz noise interference in base-band VLC. In the VLC transmitter, edge-spikes are generated by passing the digital data through a simple RC-high pass filter (HPF). The LED modulation of the edge-spikes does not change the average power of the LED light; thus it prevents LED flicker. In the VLC receiver, the 120 Hz noise from other lighting lamps is easily eliminated by RC-HPF, while the edge-spike signal is detected normally. In our experiment, the message of an air-quality sensor was successfully transmitted using edge-spike modulation. This structure is useful in constructing, e.g., wireless gas monitoring sensor systems to warn and prevent harmful gas leakage accidents in buildings using LED light.

Robust Precoding and Postcoding for Multicell Multiuser Transmission using Imperfect CSI

  • This paper studies the problem of precoding and post-coding design for multicell multiuser downlink transmissions in the absence of perfect channel state information (CSI). Using statistical information of imperfect CSI, an iterative multiuser multicell transceiver design is formulated by minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) cost function of signal and leakage interference under per-base station power constraint (PBPC). The convergence of the iterative precoding and postcoding algorithm is verified by analytical and empirical results. The proposed precoding and postcoding algorithm offers a low computational complexity and robustness against CSI imperfection.

  • In this paper, a predistortion linearizer using series diode is proposed for linearizing the power amplifier in microwave radio systems. The power amplifier should be operated near saturation region to achieve high efficiency. But at this region, amplitude and phase distortions of the amplifier remarkably increase with the increase of input power and cause a significant adjacent channel interference. The linearizer is composed of a series diode with a parallel capacitor, which provides positive amplitude and negative phase deviations with the increasing input power. This type of linearizer using the nonlinearity of diode has improved the C/I(Carrier to Intermodulation Distortion) ratio well. By applying this linearizer to two-tone 880MHz power amplifier, adjacent channel leakage power is improved up to 5dBm.

고무재 오일시일의 응답특성에 관한 해석적 연구 (Analytical Study on the Dynamic Response of Rubber Oil Seals)

  • This paper deals with a numerical study of the dynamic response of rubber oil seals for rotating shaft when interference as well as static and dynamic eccentricities are present. In loss of contact conditions the dynamic curve of oil seals is numerically simulated using the FEM package MSC/NASTRAN. The direct integration method is selected to analyze the time domain response of the seal lip-shaft contact. The computed results based on the experimental data indicate that the increased rotating speed may produce the gap separation between lip edge of rubber seals and shaft. These results will be very useful in predicting the dynamic leakage due to contact behaviors of rubber oil seals under dynamic conditions.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the dynamic behaviour of rubber oil seals when the interferences between the shaft and the seal lip as well as the dynamic eccentricities are present. The micro-separation of the sealing gap was observed with the aid of an image processing apparatus. The temperature of the seal lip edge, friction torque and the dynamic sealing gap profile are experimentally investigated for the initial interference and the shaft eccentricity. The data was simultaneously measured under the operation conditions. Experimental results show that, as the shaft speed is increased, the leakage of sealed fluids is increasing for a certain range of shaft speeds. The test data indicates that the shaft eccentricity clearly produces the gap separation between the shaft and the seal lip which is unable to follow the radial displacement of shaft as the shaft speed increases.

  • Power Supply System for electric railways is diversified with technical development and is required high technologies. especially, recently there is required many research and development for earthing to ensure safety of people and protection of installations. Generally, leakage resistance is high between rail and ground at tunnel section of subway. because of short circuit of feeding line, earthing interference by transient overvoltage between signals and communication system, and insulation failure, it can damage to human and equipments To minimize these obstacles, earthing equipment is installed at underground section of railway, but it brings about problems in accordance with operate each earthing system to be not enough required protection provisions for electrified railways. This paper proposes effective earthing method to be concerned about installation cost and maintenance. The validity of the proposed earth method is verified by simulation results at underground section of railways.

  • Bimodal tram has a carbody made of polymer composite material which is good electrical insulator. As an series hybrid type, Alternating voltage generated from generator coupled with CNG engine are rectified and transformed to variable voltage ranges which are applied to electrical apparatus and ECUs equipped inside of the tram. The failures of electrical insulation between high voltage($400V{\sim}800V$) and low voltage(24V) or between different kind of voltages such as AC and DC may cause some electrical interferences to prevent from operating rightly and other safety problem. This paper have investigated about the degradation factors of the electrical insulation and the earthing method available to bimodal tram, which is effective for preventing the electromagnetic interference coming from the inside or outside of tram but need some detecting measurements of earth leakage through electrical systems.

  • The pretibial cyst is a very rare complication after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. It occurs whatever kind of graft choice or kind of graft fixation method at tibial side. It have been known such as graft necrosis at tibial side, extra-articular leakage of joint fluid through tibial tunnel, foreign body reaction due to breakdown of the bioabsorbable screw and incomplete incorporation of graft to bony tunnel as the cause of pretibial cyst. We experienced one case of pretibial cyst which had undergone ACL reconstruction with autogenous hamstring graft fixed with biodegradable interference screw. We report a rare case of pretibial cyst with literature review.

Numerical Study on the Dynamic Response in Elastomeric Oil Seals

  • Oil seals will experience a small amplitude dynamic excitation due to the shaft eccentricity as well as out-of-roundness of the shaft. The direct integration method is selected to analyze the time domain response of the seal lip-shaft contact. The physical properties of rubber seal materials are experimentally analyzed. Effects of both frequency and temperature on the material stiffness behavior are investigated for the linear viscoelastic materials of the seal. Using the nonlinear transient model, a finite element analysis of the lip-shaft contact behaviors under dynamic conditions is presented as a function of the shaft eccentricity, the shaft interference and the garter spring stiffness. The FEM results based on the experimental data indicate that the increased rotating speed may produce the separation conditions. These results will be very useful in predicting the leakage of oil seals under dynamic conditions.

A new interleaved high step up converter with low voltage stress on the main switches

  • In this paper, a new interleaved high step-up converter with low voltage stress on the switches is proposed. In the proposed converter, soft switching is provided for all switches by just one auxiliary switch, which decreases the conduction loss of auxiliary circuit. Also, the auxiliary circuit is expanded on the converter with more input branches. In the converter all main switches operate under zero voltage switching condition and auxiliary switch operate under zero current switching condition. Because of the interleaved structure, the reliability of converter increases and input current ripples decreases. The clamp capacitor in the converter not only absorb the voltage spikes across the switch due to leakage inductance, but also improve voltage gain. The proposed converter is fully analyzed and to verify the theoretical analysis, a 100 W prototype was implemented. Also, to show the effectiveness of auxiliary circuit on conduction EMI, EMI of the proposed converter comprised with hard switching counterpart.
