This paper proposes an estimation algorithm for the separate primary and secondary leakage inductances of a three phase $Y-\Delta$ transformer using least squares method. The voltage equations from the primary and secondary windings are combined into a differential equation to estimate the separate primary and secondary leakage inductances in order to use the line current of the delta winding. Separate primary and secondary leakage inductances are obtained by applying least squares method to the differential equation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated under transient states, such as magnetic inrush and overexcitation, as well as in the steady state with various cut-off frequencies of low-pass filter. The proposed technique can accurately generate separate leakage inductances both in the steady and transient states.

This paper reports the contamination performance of two distribution arresters (new and used ones) tested under three different contaminant conditions - clean fog, ESDD (equivalent salt deposit density) level (A, B, C, and D), and kaolin contamination conditions, and their leakage current, total leakage current, and component of the resistive leakage current were measured in order to diagnose arrester deterioration. The 3rd harmonics was larger than 5th and 7th ones for the arrester under the clean fog, and as the ESDD contamination level was applied, 5th one became relatively larger than 3rd one. Therefore, these results indicated that the resistive leakage current could be used for the diagnosis of the arresters.

A leakage canceller and adaptive algorithm for FMCW Radar is presented. Because a strong leakage signal causes various problems in the transceiver and digital processor, specific FMCW radars are in need of a leakage canceller. The leakage canceller has an adaptive structure and the algorithm calculates the prediction vector and learns the adaptive coefficient simultaneously. The proposed algorithm an improvement of 10 dB in the cancellation performance.
The Korea has high population density, so the precipitation per capita is only one tenth to world average. The water resource in Korea is insufficient. But the leakage in the water distribution system is about 25%, and it is lower than other countries where water utilities are managed well. The pipelines' management also is getting worse because the leakage in the pipelines lower the ground density surrounding pipes. So, managing the leakage in the water distribution system is very important in the view of increasing the water resources and doing the efficient management of the pipeline system. Accordingly this study aimed to conduct a cause-analysis with scientific approaches considering key local factor related to water loss of distribution system and derive better performance indicators which are able to evaluate the real state of water loss management reasonably. Also this research aimed to develop a methodology capable of judging condition of infrastructure of water distribution system.

The substantial loss behind axial flow rotor was generated by wake, various vortices in the hub region and the leakage vortex in the tip region. Particularly, the leakage vortex formed near blade tip was one of the main causes of the reduction of performance, the generation of noise and the aerodynamic vibration in rotor downstream. In this study, the three-dimensional flowfields in an axial flow rotor for various tip clearances were calculated, and the numerical results were compared with the experimental ones. The numerical technique was based on SIMPLE algorithm using standard k-.epsilon. model (WFM). Through calculations, the effects of the tip clearance on the overall performance of rotor and the loss distributions, and the increase in the displacement, momentum, and blade-force-deficit thickness of the casing wall boundary layer were investigated. The mass-averaged flow variables behind rotor agreed well with the experimental results. The presence of the tip leakage vortex behind rotor was described well. Although the loci of leakage vortex by calculation showed some differences compared with the experimental results, its behavior for various tip clearances was clarified by examining the loci of vortex center.

This paper presents leakage characteristics of a scroll compressor applying alternative refrigerants of R22 such as R407c and R410a under actual operating conditions. Because leakage in a scroll compressor produce significant losses and degradation of performance, those should be clarified to design a high efficient scroll compressor with alternative refrigerants of R22. However, flank and tip leakage characteristics of a scroll compressor with alternative refrigerants are very limited in open literature. In the present study, both experimentation and modeling of the leakages in the scroll compressor were performed. As a result, it was observed that the leakages of the scroll compressor with R407c increased by 15%, and that with R410a increased by 76% as compared to the compressor applying R22 under standard load conditions due to a higher upstream pressure and a higher pressure difference between pockets.

The construction of long sub-sea tunnel does not provide the favorable condition for the installation of ventilation system to be used during construction due to the constrained construction space. For the ventilation system required during construction, the artificial island where ventilation shaft is located is constructed at some location along the sub-sea tunnel route, which requires a high construction cost. Therefore, it is intended, as much as possible technically, to minimize the construction of artificial island. However, this requires a longer distance between ventilation shafts, there-by causing increased air leakage at the ventilation duct connection points due to the higher fan pressure being required to deliver ventilation air. Previously the air leakage was studied as an important issue. In this study experiments were carried out to develop the improved duct connection method considering various conditions such as, tunnel length, etc. Additionally, its performance results with leakage rates are shown and compared to the "S" class leakage rate of SIA. As a result, the new duct coupling type of improved method is analyzed as applicable to such a 30 km long tunnel with the leakage rate of $1.46mm^2/m^2$, which is better performance than SIA leakage rates.
This paper suggests a nonlinear pressure consideration scheme through an unsteady pipe network analyzer for leakage detection with a portable pressure wave generator. In order to evaluate the performance of a proposal scheme, linear input pattern has been simulated and experiments had been carried out under both no leakage and one leakage conditions in a reservoir-pipeline-valve system. This method using portable pressure wave generator showed that a leakage can be detected from a reflection where a leakage is originated through time domain analysis. Meaningful similarity in pressure response between nonlinear input pattern and experimental results were found both no leakage and a leakage conditions.
In nuclear power plants, reactor coolant leakage can occur due to various reasons. Early detection of leaks is crucial for maintaining the safety of nuclear power plants. Currently, a detection system is being developed in Korea to identify reactor coolant system (RCS) leakage of less than 0.5 gpm. Typically, RCS leaks are detected by monitoring temperature, humidity, and radioactivity in the containment, and a water level in the sump. However, detecting small leaks proves challenging because the resulting changes in the containment humidity and temperature, and the sump water level are minimal. To address these issues and improve leak detection speed, it is necessary to quantify the leaks and develop an artificial intelligence-based leak detection system. In this study, we employed bidirectional long short-term memory, which are types of neural networks used in artificial intelligence, to predict the relative humidity in the leakage area for leak quantification. Additionally, an optimization technique was implemented to reduce learning time and enhance prediction performance. Through evaluation of the developed artificial intelligence model's prediction accuracy, we expect it to be valuable for future leak detection systems by accurately predicting the relative humidity in a leakage area.

In this study, the effects of the leakage flow between the baffle and tube bundles on the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger (STHE) were examined using the commercial software ANSYS FLUENT v.14. A computational fluid dynamics model was developed for a small STHE with five different cases for the ratio of the leakage cross-sectional area to the baffle cross-sectional area, ranging from 0 to 40%, in order to determine the optimum leakage flow corresponding to the maximum outlet temperature. Using fixed tube wall and inlet temperatures for the shell side of the STHE, the flow and temperature fields were calculated by increasing the Reynolds number from 4952 to 14858. The present results showed that the outlet temperature, pressure drop, and heat transfer coefficient were strongly affected by the leakage flow, as well as the Reynolds number. In contrast with a previous researcher's finding that the leakage flow led to simultaneous decreases in the pressure drop and heat transfer rate, the present study found that the pertinent leakage flow provided momentum in the recirculation zone near the baffle plate and thus led to the maximum outlet temperature, a small pressure drop, and the highest heat transfer rate. The optimum leakage flow was shown in the case with a ratio of 20% among the five different cases.
