배 신고 품종의 잎 내 무기성분의 시기별 함량 변화와 잎 내 무기성분 함량에 미치는 기후요인 (Changes of Inorganic Nutrient Contents in Leaf of 'Niitaka' Pear and Inorganic Nutrient Contents of Leaf Influenced by Meteorological Elements)

  • 본 연구는 배 신고 품종의 영양 진단을 위해 과총 잎과 신초 잎을 구별한 무기성분 변화와 기상요인이 잎의 무기성분 함량에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다 과총 잎의 N, P, K, Mg 함량은 후기로 갈수록 감소되었으나, Ca, Mn 함량은 증가되었다. N, P, K, Fe 함량은 과총 잎과 신초 잎의 함량 차이가 거의 없었다. 과총 잎의 Ca, Mn, Cu, Zn성분은 신초 잎보다 높았으나, B 성분은 신초 잎보다 낮았다. 신초 잎의 N 성분은 평균 기온과는 정의 상관이, 최고 기온과는 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 과총 잎의 P 성분과 최고 기온과는 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 과총 잎의 Ca 성분은 평균 기온과는 부의 상관이, 최고, 최저 기온과는 정의 상관을 보였다. 신초, 과총 잎의 Mg, B 성분과 평균 기온과는 정의 상관이, 최고, 최저 기온과는 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 일반적인 잎 채취 시기인 7월 중순${\~}$8월 상순 사이의 과총 잎 내 Ca, Mn 함량은 신초 잎보다 확연히 높았기 때문에 정확한 영양진단을 위해서는 신초 잎과 과총 잎을 구별하여 채취하는 것이 좋을 것으로 판단된다.

돌산 갓의 비휘발성 유기산, 무기질, 지방산 및 섬유소 조성 (Non-Volatile Organic Acids, Mineral, Fatty Acids and Fiber Compositions in Dolsan Leaf Mustard (Brassica juncea))

  • 국내 김치류 가운데 향토식품으로서 연구개발의 필요성이 있는 갓의 비휘발성 유기산, 무기질, 지방산조성 및 섬유소 등에 대한 성분분석 결과는 비휘발성 유기산은 잎줄기보다 잎에 많았으며, 특히 malic acid의 함량이 79.lmg%로서 가장 높았고, citric acid는 23.7mg%로서 잎의 함량이 잎줄기보다 4배 정도 더 많았다. 잎과 잎줄기의 무기질은 칼슘(143.7, 81.3mg%)과 마그네슘(22.7, 14.5 mg%)이 높게 나타났으며, 대체로 잎의 무기질함량은 잎줄기에 비하여 1~1.8배 정도 많았다. 특히 철 (6.9, 7.3mg%)은 다른 십자화과 채소에 비하여 상당히 많았다. 총지질을 구성하는 지방산 조성은 $\alpha$-linolenic acid, palmitic acid 그리고 linoleic acid가 대부분을 차지하며, 불포화지방산의 함량이 포화지방산에 비하여 3.7배 많으며, 잎과 잎줄기의 P/S비율이 각각 4.1과 2.9로서 잎이 1.4배 높았다. 식이성 섬유질 중 펙틴질에 있어서 잎과 잎줄기의 알코올불용성성분 (AIS)은 9.4및 6.7%로서 잎의 AIS함량이 1.4배 많았으며, 잎과 줄기에서 공통적으로 AIS는 열수수용성펙틴(HWSP), 인산염가용성펙틴(HXSP), 염산가용성펙틴(HSP)이 4.1 : 2.8 : 1의 비로 구성되며, HXSP와 HSP의 함량이 크게 차이를 보였다. 또한 총 식이성섬유질의 함량은 잎과 잎줄기에서 각각 1.2와 2.8%를 함유하며, ADF에 비하여 NDF함량이 많았으며, 리그닌이 가장 적었다. 셀루로스는 헤미셀루로스에 비하여 2.1배 많았으며, 대체로 잎줄기에는 잎에 비하여 각 식이성 섬유소의 함량이 약간씩 높았다.

엽장, 엽폭, 엽병장 및 SPAD 값을 이용한 온실 재배 어윈 망고의 엽면적, 엽생체중과 엽건물중 추정 (Estimation of Leaf Area, Leaf Fresh Weight, and Leaf Dry Weight of Irwin Mango Grown in Greenhouse using Leaf Length, Leaf Width, Petiole Length, and SPAD Value)

  • 온실에서 재배되는 어윈 망고는 그 수관이 복잡하여 생육을 정확하게 진단할 수 있는 생육 지표 결정이 어렵다. 엽면적, 엽생체중과 엽건물중은 생육을 진단할 수 있는 지표이며, 이를 비파괴적으로 추정할 수 있는 모델 확립이 필요하다. 본 연구의 목표는 어윈 망고 (Mangifera indica L. cv. Irwin)의 엽장, 엽폭, 엽병장, SPAD 값 등의 비 파괴적 생육지표를 이용하여 엽면적, 엽생체중과 엽건물중을 추정하는 모델을 확립하는 것이다. 6년생 어윈 망고의 성엽에 대하여 엽장, 엽폭, 엽병장과 SPAD 값을 측정하였으며, 이에 따른 엽면적, 엽생체중과 엽건물중을 측정하였다. 기존에 사용되는 모델식 중에서 14종의 모델을 선정하였으며, 회귀분석을 통해 각 모델의 계수를 추정하였다. 이중에서 높은 $R^2$과 낮은 평균제곱근오차 값을 보이는 세 모델식에 대하여 검증한 결과, $R^2$ 값은 각각 0.967과 0.743, 0.567로 나타나 신뢰성이 있다고 판단되었다. 이러한 방법은 작물의 생육 지표로 편리하게 추정하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다.

Production Assessment of Eelgrass, Zostera marina Using the Plastochrone Method Compared with the Conventional Leaf Marking Technique

  • Since seagrasses are highly productive and provide a source of organic carbon for a wide variety of marine organisms in coastal and estuarine ecosystem, accurate assessment of seagrass production is critical to understand the functions and values of seagrasses in these ecosystems. Zieman's leaf marking technique has been mostly used to estimate seagrass leaf production rates. However, inherent problems on the traditional leaf marking technique have been discussed by the several researchers, and these problems can cause underestimation of seagrass production. To develop an accurate and reliable assessing method for seagrass production, production rates of eelgrass, Zostera marina in three bay systems on the south coast of the Korean peninsula were estimated using the conventional leaf marking technique and the plastochrone method. The plastochrone method has been recently suggested as an effective method for reliable assessments of seagrass production. In the present study, leaf production rates estimated by the plastochrone method were significantly higher than the rates derived from the traditional leaf marking technique. Annual eelgrass leaf production assessed using the leaf marking technique was about 65 to 89% of the estimated production using the plastochrone method. The differences in annual productions between assessment techniques imply that the conventional leaf marking technique significantly underestimated eelgrass leaf production. Total eelgrass productions estimated using the plastochrone method in the present study sites were about 600 to 806 g DW $m^{-2} y^{-l}$, and below-ground production accounted for about 20 to 23% of the total production. The plastochrone method was suggested to be an effective and accurate assessing method for eelgrass production.

Mathematical Constants for Non-Destructive Rapid Method of Leaf Area Determination in Mulberry (Morus spp.)

  • Mathematical constants for multiplication with leaf length (I) or breadth (b) or l ${\times}$ b have been worked out for determining leaf area in promising mulberry genotypes viz., Chinese White, S-146, Chak Majra and Sujanpur Local of sub-tropical India. When pooled, the mathematical constants worked out were 8.1132, 10.1019 and 0.5992 for multiplication with leaf length, breadth and l ${\times}$ b, respectively, for genotypes bearing un-lobbed leaves and 6.9447, 8.2761 and 0.5009 for multiplication with leaf length, breadth and l ${\times}$ b, respectively for genotypes bearing lobbed leaves. Leaf area can be worked out by using any constant by multiplying either with leaf length or breadth or both (l ${\times}$ b). Estimated leaf areas worked out were found significantly and positively correlated with actual leaf area (r=999$^{**}$). The suggested present non-destructive method by using mathematical constants is very quick and alternative to electronic leaf area meter for spot leaf area determination in mulberry which is the only food source for mulberry silkworm in sericulture industry.

갓의 급이가 흰쥐의 Cholesterol 대사에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mustard Leaf(Brassica Juncea) on Cholesterol Metabolism in Rats)

  • To investigate the effects mustard leaf(Brassica Juncea) on Cholesterol metabolism, male Sprague Dawley rate were fed semipurified diets containing 2% or 4% mustard leaf with or without cholesterol for 5 weeks. Plasma cholesterol content decreased significantly by feeding 4% mustard leaf with of without cholesterol for 5 weeks. Plasma cholesterol content decreased significantly by feeding 4% mustard leaf in rats fed 1% cholesterol in the diet. In addition, HDL-cholesterol increased slightly by the feeding of mustard leaf, resulting in a significant increase in the HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol ratio and a reduction of atherosclerotic index. However, levels of plasma lipids were not influenced by mustared leaf in rats fed cholesterol-free diet. The contents of all classes of lipid in liver increased by dietary cholesterol. Of the liver lipids, triglyceride and cholesterol ester were accumulated most, showing a fatty liver synodrome. Supplementation of mustard leaf to cholesterol-containing diet resulted in a slight decrease in neutral lipid contents of liver. Fecal cholesterol excretion was higher by more than 2.7 and 3.3-fold in rats fed 2 and 4% mustard leaf than in control rats fed cholesterol. Similar trends were found in fecal bile salt excretion; rats fed and 4% mustard leaf excreted more bile salts by more than 1.5 and 2% than those fed control diet containing cholesterol. In summary, mustard leaf may have an antiatherogenci effect of reducing plasma cholesterol level and increasing HDL-cholesterol level. The plasma cholesterol lowering effect of mustard leaf is suggested to be due, at least in part, to increase in fecal excretion of cholesterol and bile acids.

자생식물의 메탄올 추출물이 흰줄숲모기 및 바퀴에 대한 기피효과 (Repellent activity of methanol extracts of native plants against Aedes albopictus and Blateria germanica)

  • 민들레(Teraxacum platycerpum leaf), 소나무(Pinus densiflora leaf), 쑥(Artemisia prinseps, leaf), 부추(Allium tuberosum leaf), 결명초(Cassia obtussifolia, whole plant), 고삼(Sophora angestifolia, root), 백부근(Stemonae sessilifolia, root), 인동(Lonicera japonica, stem, leaf, flower) 및 귤(Clivia miniata, left)등 9종의 자생식물(시료11종)의 메탄올 추출물이 흰줄숲모기와 바퀴에 대한 기피효과 실험을 실행하였다. 그결과 흰줄숲모기에 대해서는 소나무잎 민들레잎 부추 잎 및 인동꽃 등의 메탄올 추출물이 기피효과가 우수하였다. 한편 바퀴에 대한 이들의 기피효과에서는 인동잎이 좋았으나 일반적으로 흰줄숲모기에 비해 기피효과가 떨어졌다.

Antimutagenic and Anticancer Effects of Leaf Mustard and Leaf Mustard Kimchi

  • In this study, we investigated antimutagenic and anticancer activities of leaf mustard (LM, Brassica juncea) and leaf mustard kimchi (LMK) during their fermentation period. Methanol extracts were prepared from raw mustard, brined leaf mustard in 10% Gueun salt solution for 2 hrs, leaf mustard fermented at 15$^{\circ}C$ for 5 days after brined in 10% Guenun salt solution for 2 hrs (Fr-LM), fresh leaf mustard kimchi (Fresh-LMK) and optimally ripened leaf mustard kimchi fermented at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 30 days (OR-LMK). OR-LMK showed the strongest inhibitory activities against the mutagenicities induced by aflatoxin B1 in Salmonella Typhimurium TA100. LMs and LMKs inhibited the survival or growth of AGS human gastric adenocarcinoma cells and HT-29 human colon carcinoma cells in MTT assay and growth inhibition test. Among the extracts, OR-LMK and FR-LM exhibited strong antiproliferative effect against cancer cells, especially HT-29 cells. DAPI staining assay showed that OR-LMK induced apoptosis cell death of HT-29 cells in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that leaf mustards and leaf mustard kimchi have chemopreventive activities.

Weight Loss and Nutrient Dynamics during Leaf Litter Decomposition of Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora at Mt. Worak National Park

  • Weight loss and nutrient dynamics of oak and pine leaf litter during decomposition were investigated from December 2005 through June 2008 at Mt. Worak National Park as a part of National Long-Term Ecological Research Program in Korea. The decay constant (k) of oak and pine leaf litter were 0.314 and 0.217, respectively. After 30 months decomposition, remaining weight of oak and pine leaf litter was 45.5% and 58.1%, respectively. Initial C/N ratio of oak and pine leaf litter was 53.4 and 153.0, respectively. Carbon % of initial oak and pine leaf litter was similar with each other; however, nitrogen content of initial oak leaf litter (0.85%) was greater than that of initial pine leaf litter (0.33%). N and P concentration in both decomposing leaf litter increased significantly during decomposition. There was no net N and P mineralization period in decomposing pine leaf litter. K, Ca and Mg concentration in both decomposing leaf litter showed different pattern with those of N and P. After 30 months decomposition, remaining nutrients in oak and pine leaf litter were 97.7 and 216.2% for N, 123.2 and 216.5% for P, 39.3 and 44.8% for K, 47.9 and 40.6% for Ca, 30.7 and 51.2% for Mg, respectively.

Response of Leaf Water Potential and Growth Characteristics to Irrigation Treatment in Soybean

  • Soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] are frequently exposed to unfavorable environments during growing seasons and water is the most important factor limiting for the production system. The purpose of this study was to determine the leaf water potential changes by irrigation, and to evaluate the relationships of leaf water potential, growth and yield in soybeans. Three soybean cultivars, Hwangkeumkong, Shinpaldalkong 2, and Pungsannamulkong, were planted in growth chamber and field with irrigated treatments. Leaf water potential of three soybean cultivars was positively correlated with leaf water content during vegetative and reproductive growth stages in growth chamber and field experiments. Leaf water potentials measured for three soybean cultivars under growth chamber were higher than those of under field conditions. Higher leaf water potential with irrigated plots under field was observed compared to conventional plots during reproductive growth stages. Leaf water potentials of three soybean cultivars were continually decreased during reproductive growth stages under field and there was no significant difference among them. Number of leaves, leaf water content, pod dry weight, number of seeds and seed dry weight with irrigated plots were higher than those of conventional plots. The results of this study suggested that leaf water potential could be used as an important growth indicator during the growing season of soybean plants.
