프로펠러 특성의 이론적 산정법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Theoretical Calculation of Screw Propeller Open-Water Characteristics)

  • In recent years, propellers with various blade configurations such as highly skewed propellers are often fitted to ships from the viewpoint of reduction of vibration and noise. In the design of such propellers, design charts based on methodical series tests are to be complemented by theoretical calculations for accurate estimation of propeller open-water characteristics. The author intended to develop a method to estimate propeller open-water characteristics based on Quasi -Vortex - Lattice Method originally developed by Lan for solving planar thin wings, The Quasi - Vortex - Lattice Method has the simplicity and flexibility of Vortex - Lattice Method. Its accuracy is comparable to that of the Vortex - Lattice Method. Converged solution can be obtained with a small number of control points and further, leading edge suction force can be calculated directly. In the present paper, a numerical method to estimate propeller open-water characteristics based on the Quasi - Vortex - Lattice Method is reviewed and its application to marine propellers is described in detail. Comparison of propeller open-water characteristics obtained by the present method with experimental data showed good agreement for a wide variety of propellers including highly skewed propellers.

  • The vortex flow characteristics of a yawed LEX-delta wing at a high-angle of attack are studied using a computational analysis. The objective of the present study is to investigate and visualize the effects of the yaw angle, the development and interaction of vortices, the relationship between the suction pressure distributions and the vortex flow characteristics. Computations are applied to the three dimensional, compressible, Navier-Stokes Equations. In computations, the yaw angle is varied between 0 and 20 degree at a high-angle of attack. Computational predictions are compared with the previous experimental results.

천음속 원심압축기 내부 유동의 수치해석 (Numerical Study of the Flow in a Transonic Centrifugal Compressor)

  • Flow fields of a transonic centrifugal compressor are calculated using the commercial CFD code, CFX-TASCflow. Due to the transonic inlet condition, interactions between the shock wave and boundary layers and between the shock wave and tip leakage vortices generate complex flow structures and extra losses. The calculated results show that strong secondary flows due to high curvature and high rotational speed of the impeller. And streamlines near suction surface show that strong radially upward flow develops after the shock between the leading edge locations of main blade and splitter.

  • A turbine blade operates under high temperature, high pressure, and the loads have the characteristics that the amplitudes change. Therefore, it is important to perform a stress analysis considering thermal and pressure loads. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of these loads on gas turbine blade through thermal stress analysis. The analysis results shows that pressure in gas fluid flow around blade is high in leading edge part, Gas temperature is connections with pressure of flow around blade. The distribution of stress from blade is appearing as is different at suction side and pressure side.

  • Experimental and numerical studies are conducted to investigate the flow field over a NACA0012 airfoil with ground effects. In experiment, the ground is simulated by a moving belt system. From the comparison between the experimental and numerical results, it is concluded that the velocity gradient over the ground plane causes the increments in pressure coefficient on lower surface of the airfoil and reduces the suction peak at the leading edge.

  • The heat/mass transfer characteristics on the plane tip surface of a high-turning first-stage turbine rotor blade has been investigated by employing the naphthalene sublimation technique. The heat/mass transfer coefficient is measured for four tip clearance height-to-chord ratios of h/c = 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%, and 4% at the Reynolds number of $2.09{\times}105$. The result shows that at lower h/c, there exists a strong flow separation/re-attachment process, which results in severe thermal load along the pressure-side comer. As h/c increases, the re-attachment is occurred further downstream of the pressure-side comer with lower thermal load. At higher h/c, a pair of vortices on the tip surface near the leading edge are found along the pressure-side and suction-side comers, and the pressure-side tip vortex have significant influence even on the mid-chord local heat transfer.

  • Experimental study of separated flow over a NACA0012 airfoil is conducted at $Re=2{\times}10^5$ when periodic wakes pass over the airfoil. The wakes are periodically generated by circular cylinders upstream of the airfoil. The measurement of surface pressure and surface visualization at various angles of attack are carried out without and with passing wakes. Without passing wakes, a separation bubble at the leading edge of the suction surface is formed at an angle of attack, found from a local plateau in the streamwise pressure distribution and two distinct lines in the surface flow visualization. With passing wakes, however, the bubble disappears. Owing to passing wakes, the lift increases at high angle of attack and the angle of stall also increases.

  • Horseshoe vortices are formed at the junction of an object immersed in fluid-flow and endwall plate as a result of three-dimensional boundary layer separation. This study shows preliminary results of the kinematics of such horseshoe vortices around a circular cylinder with a cavity (slot) placed upstream to disturb the primary separation line. Through the cavity, no mass flow addition (blowing) or reduction (suction) is applied. The upstream cavity weakens the adverse pressure gradient before the cavity. With the upstream cavity, a single vortex is found to form immediately upstream of the cylinder whereas a typical two vortex system is observed in the absence of the cavity. Furthermore, the strength of the single vortex tends to be reduced, resulting from the interaction with the separated flow convecting directly towards the leading edge of the cylinder.

  • During the aircraft conceptual design stage, rapid aerodynamic analyses over various configurations are required. Hence, empirical and analytical methods play important roles in predicting the aero-dynamic characteristics. In this study, total drag estimation method based on empirical and analytical approaches is developed. By comparing with the results of the wind tunnel experiment and existing prediction methods, it is demonstrated that the developed method is accurate and useful in predicting total drag for the whole Mach number range.

임펠러의 역공학과 5축가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on Reverse Engineering and 5-axis NC Machining of Impeller)

  • This paper presents a method fur impeller modeling and 5-axis machining by the reverse engineering. The impeller is composed of pressure surface, suction surface and leading edge, and so on. The surfaces can be modeled by using the characteristic curves such as hub curves, shroud curves and fillet curves. The characteristic curves are extracted from the scanned data and the inspection is performed between the surfaces generated by using the characteristic curves and the scanned data. Then, An impeller is machined by 5-axis mainlining and post-processing with inverse kinematic solution.
