  • Net shape forging technologies give many effects into the costs and qualities for the finished products. So, the studies to reduce the additional machining amount are very important in forging industry. Specially, there are two main topics in cold forging industry, such as, tool life and precision forging. In this study, new forging technique was proposed to eliminate the machining process for fixing up the length and improve the lead accuracy of gear. The luck-up hub is manufactured through many processes, such as upsetting, piercing and direct extrusion. The gear is formed in direct extrusion process; however, lead accuracy of the gear is over allowance limit. Therefore, the additional sizing process must be added. In this study, process design for closed-die forging of a lock-up hub used for a component of automobile transmission was made using three-dimensional finite element simulations, and the strain distributions and velocity distributions are investigated through the post processor. The rigid-plastic finite-element method for back pressure forging has been used in order to reduce development time and die cost. Using the FEM simulation, we found the optimum value of back pressure. The prototypes of lock-up hub parts were forged into the net-shape. In the experiment, lead precision of tooth are measured by the CCMM(Contact Coordinate Measuring Machine). The dimensional accuracy of forged part was improved up to the 40% when back press was applied.

  • The most important factors for successful stimulation of the spinal cord are strict patient selection and proper lead position. To ensure proper lead position, paresthesia produced by the stimulator should cover all of the areas in which pain is occurring. Until recently, only the quadripolar electrode lead has been used in for spinal cord stimulation in Korea, however, the 8 electrode lead was recently introduced to offer greater programming options and enhance the precision with which paresthesias is delivered to the desired sites. In addition, because the 8-electrode lead has a longer electrode span, it provides greater dermatomal coverage of up to 2 vertebral segments. Furthermore, the 8-electrode lead allows electronic repositioning of the stimulation to accommodate changing pain patterns, thereby reducing the need for lead revisions due to lead migration. Here, we present a case in which complex regional pain syndrome type I was successfully managed using an 8-electrode lead to induce spinal cord stimulation.

  • Analyses of lead and zinc were made by means of standard addition method using atomic absorption spectrophotometer(Baird Ltd., Model A5100) with flameless method for lead and flame method for zinc. The blood samples used were merely diluted with triton x-100, because it was simple, rapid and minimal risk of contamination. Mean recovery rate for lead added to the blood ranged from 97.7 to 101.3% with coefficient of variation ranging from 1.9 to 10.7%, and that for the added zinc ranged from 99.0 to 102.2% with coefficient of variation ranging from 2.1 to 9.1%. In repeated measurements of zinc in the blood, good reproducibility and interindividual variation were proved(p<0.01). In comparison of the lead and zinc concentrations in the blood determined by the standard addition method and standard method, there were good correlations between 2 sets of data (r=0.9731 for lead and r=0.9785 for zinc), although lead levels were estimated higher by the former method(p<0.01) and zinc levels by the latter method(p<0.01). It can be concluded that lead and zinc levels in blood standard addition method is reliable for determination of lead and zinc in the blood with good accuracy and reproducibility.

  • In order to investigate the influences of process parameters on the shape of lead frame, experimental study has been carried out. In the experiment, dimensional accuracy of the die sets, measurement accuracy has been managed carefully enough to simulate actual lead frame blanking process. With the blanking of square-shaped specimen, the effects of clearance, strip holding pressure and bridge width on the shape of blanked profile have been investigated. Experimental results show that the burnish ratio is increased as the clearance decreases. the strip holding pressure increases, and bridge width increases. Although the results seems to be similar to the ordinary blanking, the lead frame blanking shows a subtle different characteristics to the ordinary blanking due to the narrow bridge width.
