  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data needed for planning apartment community spaces in order to vitalize rental apartments. Indoors community spaces of six rental apartments in Seoul and Gyung-gi were examined. The results are as follows. First, layout types of community spaces in rental apartment complexes were researched and it was found that there are singular types and block types. Depending on the layout type, the space could function as an element to closely associate residents with each other. Second, child care spaces were planned to conveniently utilize the space with space plans, and furniture and appliance plans adjusted for children's characteristics. On the contrary, elderly spaces lacked exercise equipment and subsidiary facilities, and educational spaces caused inconvenience as they did not take into consideration the user characteristics. Third, although indoor community spaces of rental apartment complexes were planned to hold child care spaces, elderly spaces, educational spaces, and neighborhood spaces according to the legal standards of installation, the operation of these facilities were problematic.

  • University libraries aim to improve not only educational effects but also the general quality of colleges. A primary way of pursuing this goal is through providing professors and students with sufficient amounts of available references and materials that can be used for academic purposes. However, even though university libraries are intended to be used by college students majoring in different fields, they tend to provide mostly books. This limited offering of resources means that they are not distinguishing themselves from regular libraries. The purpose of this study is to present basic data for the spatial design of a subject specialization room in a college library. Included in the design are recommendations for the type and placement of the furniture in the room. The summary of results for this study and the conclusions are as follows: The layout of data space and reading space in a subject specialization room can be categorized into both document-oriented (document centralized and document categorized) and reading-oriented (reading centralized, all, and group types). The public reading seats and private reading seats in a subject specialization room, according to their ratio, can be divided into private reading, public reading, and distributed reading sections. The ratio of open-spaced tables is higher for groups of four or more people, but users often sit separately from others in order to ensure privacy. Unfortunately, this practice results in seating gaps that do not make efficient use of space. The result is that the public reading seats are less efficient than the private reading seats in terms of space. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the number of cubicles.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the functional conformity based on the analysis of the spatial connectivity of block housing using space syntax. Three cases were selected which have important meanings in 1920s. The properties of spatial configuration were derived from an urban-context approach and without urban context analysis, and spatial connectivity and functional conformity were analyzed using references. The results of the study revealed that the arrangement of block housing were different from one another notwithstanding their similar layout characteristics. The relationships between urban streets and housing complexes were identified, and the public spaces were being arranged as semi-public spaces, whereas blocks as private spaces by separating functions. This study provides the implications for the planning of low rise-high density housings by means of analyzing the spatial connectivity of the spatial layout characteristics of European block housing, recognizing the relationships between urban communities and housing complexes.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the planning concept and spatial characteristics of the multi-housing units in prize-wining works of design competition since 2007. Literature review and content analysis were used for this study and 199units over $59m^2$ were analyzed to review the planning concept, spatial composition and layout. The results of this study were as follows; 1)The planning concept of these units were divided into three aspects; that is, eco-friendly, rational and sustainable unit plan by means of functional, environmental-friendly and future-oriented aspects. 2)Most unit plans had 3LDK+2bath and 4Bay types including family room as a public space. This results shows that family-room and bathroom has recently become more important than number of rooms in multi-housing units planning. 2)In terms of the spatial composition of LDK and Master Bed room, LDK area become large, open type and master-zone were showed 'bed room+dress and powder room+bath' type. 3)The entrance has a intermediated space as a balcony or a former space and the privacy of LDK space was protected from the entrance. This study has a significant moaning on grasping current trend in Korean multi-housing and to provide Information for future direction on housing-unit design.

  • One of the most important elements in creating the pleasant residential environment is the wind. For the pleasant residential environment, it is important that the air pollutants are not stagnant but appropriately and swiftly diffused and removed by winds. Especially, the river becomes a main route of wind in the urban core. So, it is necessary to secure the space to circulate the sufficient cool air to this area. But, recently many high-rise apartment complexes have been built along the rivers that have the fine view and pleasant environment. As a result, the cool and fresh air coming from mountains hardly diffuses into the urban core but just flows along the river. Considering the facts above, this study selected types of building layout and kind of land cover as complex or architectural design factors that have an influence on wind environment. Based on the factors, it analyzed change in wind environment according to apartment complex development aiming at the Sinchun area which is Daegu Metropolitan City's main wind corridor. Therefore, when apartment complex development is planned in the future, it can offer basic data for establishing plans for more pleasant complexes. As a result of the analysis, it was shown that the layout type of housing and the building height plan in consideration of wind corridor around the river were pretty effective in increasing the wind speed and circulating the air in the apartment complex. Therefore, if wind corridor is considered when apartment complex development is planed in the future, this study can offer useful information contributing to improve comfort in residential environment in the level of complex building as well as city planning.

  • The elderly rate in South Korea in 2015 is over 13.1%. Especially, the elderly rate in rural area is high. Senior community project in rural that is being promoted by the government. This study's purpose is to provide the reserch group-home for the elderly in Japan rural area. And this paper provided planning of group-home for the elderly in Korea rural area. For this study, respective 5senior housing of Korea and Japan were chosen as respresenting two nations, and every manager was interviewed on housing pattern. This study suggests the planning material as following. First, the effectiveness of the group-home are big. Especially, the elderly was far healthier. Design point is public space(living room, small living room, etc). Maybe, healthy group-home concept is that would be design by Korean traditional housing. Also important public space design is that would be inner courtyard-house, wood floor, Deachong, etc. Two group-homes will construct elderly welfare facilities in between. Otherwise that is need layout of a big public space. In the case of vacant house can used by considering of scale, structure, site condition. Closed school can used through so easy remodeling too. More often than not complex type(hospital, community heath center) was appeared in Japan rural area. In the case of Korea, recommend complex type in community health center and public building. In this case, considering communication, access, contact, group-home keeps on ground floor. In this paper, we hope to take a lesson from group-home planning source for the elderly in Korea rural area.

  • This study is aimed at classifying different types of parks in Gwang-Ju city and providing efficient Planning and guidelines to satisfy the needs of park users. The first stage of this study was accomplished by site surveys of neighborhood parks in Gwang-Ju where park types, locations, neighboring conditions, park layout, and other physical environments were surveyed for the specific status of parks. With those basic data, urban neighborhood park types were classified into different categories: 1) urban neighborhood parks; 2) riverside neighborhood parks; and 3) natural(mountain side) neighborhood parks. For the second stage of this study, behavior patterns and satisfaction were investigated to provide empirical data on the relationship between the physical environment and human behavior. The main findings of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. The highest level of satisfaction for the users of urban neighborhood parks in Gwang-Ju city is the accessibility of the parks which are small but located in neighborhoods, The users tend to visit the nearby parks regardless of size. 2. The users have relatively high levels of satisfaction for urban neighborhood parks which have a lot of green zones or park facilities. Therefore, the park planner should consider the natural environment in the park area and should reconsider the type of park in the planning process. 3. The different types of urban neighborhood parks in Gwang-Ju city do not affect the level of satisfaction and the motivation of park visits. However, the accessibility of the parks is the most important factors of users' satisfaction regardless of the type of the park. 4. The level of user satisfaction for all of the urban neighborhood parks in Gwang-Ju city indicates that the users have a relatively low level of satisfaction. Especially, 26.2% of the users have a high level of dissatisfaction. The new parks, which have recently been developed, have a higher level of satisfaction than the old parks which have a lack of facilities, insufficient maintenance, and poor management planning in the park. 5. As a result of factor analysis, all city neighborhood parks showed a similar tendency with urban type parks, but showed a tendency that was different from the other park types.
