  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) system with efficient turbo coded V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique. The proposed algorithm adopts extrinsic information from a MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) decoder with iterative decoding as a priori probability in two decoding procedures of V-BLAST scheme; the ordering and the slicing. Also, we consider the AMC system using the conventional turbo coded V-BLAST technique that simply combines the V-BLAST scheme with the turbo coding scheme. And we compare the proposed decoding algorithm to a conventional V-BLAST decoding algorithm and a ML (Maximum Likelihood) decoding algorithm. In addition, we apply a STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme to the systems for better performance improvement. Results indicate that the proposed systems achieve better throughput performance than the conventional systems over the entire SNR range. In terms of transmission rate performance, the suggested system is close in proximity to the conventional system using the ML decoding algorithm.

  • In this paper, channel error characteristics are investigated to alleviate the channel error propagation problem of the digital TV transmission systems. First, error propagation problems, which are mainly caused by the inter-frame dependancy and variable length coding of the MPEG-2 baseline encoder, are intensively analyzed. Next, existing channel resilient schemes are systematically classified into two kinds of schemes; one for the encoder and the other for the decoder. By comparing the performance and implementation cost, the encoder side schemes, such as error localization, layered coding, error resilience bit stream generation techniques, are described in this paper. Also, in an effort to consider the parcticality of the real transmission situation, an efficient error detection scheme for a decoder system is proposed by employing a priori information of the bit stream syntas, checking the encoding conditions at the encoder stage, and exploiting the statistics of the image itself. Finally, subsequent error concealment technique based on the DCT coefficient recovery algorithm is adopted to evaluate the performance of the proposed error resilience technique. The computer simulation results show that the quality of the received image is significantly improved when the bit error rate is as high as 10$^{-5}$ .

  • In this paper, we propose a computationally efficient early stopping method to reduce the average number of iterations. The conventional early stopping methods have too much computational complexity to compute the stopping criterion. Thus, only the hard decision based early stopping method is suitable to realize the hardware of LDPC decoder. However, this method also can increase the computational complexity of LDPC decoder. The proposed method can effectively reduce the computational complexity of stopping criterion as we do not compute hard decision, and we combine the stopping criterion with horizontal shuffling scheduling decoding scheme. The simulation results show that a new early stopping method achieves acceptable bit error rate performance also reduces the average number of iterations.

  • This this paper, we propose vertical Bell laboratories layered space time (V-BLAST) system based on variable rate Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes to improve performance of receiver when QR decomposition interference suppression combined with interference cancellation is used over independent Rayleigh fading channel. The different rate LDPC codes can be made by puncturing some rows of a given parity check matrix. This allows to implement a single encoder and decoder for different rate LDPC codes. The performance can be improved by assigning stronger LDPC codes in lower layer than upper layer because the poor SNR of first detected data streams makes error propagation. Keeping the same overall code rates, the V-BLAST system with different rate LDPC codes has the better performance (in terms of Bit Error Rate) than with constant rate LDPC code in fast fading channel.

  • A dual-user multiplexing scheme for a pair of mobiles equipped with single antenna is proposed which incorporates time-delay diversity employing a rotation-based D-BLAST-like layered code. A low-dimension equivalent of the existing partial interference cancellation based group decoder is also proposed for the corresponding receiver. The BER performances of the proposed scheme and those of the ideal scheme are studied comparatively through Monte Carlo simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose and observe the Adaptive Modulation system with optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique that is applied the extrinsic information from MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) Decoder in decoding Algorithm of V-BLAST: ordering and slicing. The extrinsic information is used by a priori probability and the system decoding process is composed of the Main Iteration and the Sub Iteration. And comparing the proposed system with the Adaptive Modulation system using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is simply combined V-BLAST with Turbo Coding scheme, we observe how much throughput performance has been improved. In addition, we observe the proposed system using STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme. As a result of simulation, Comparing with the conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique with the Adaptive Modulation systems, the optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique with the Adaptive Modulation systems has better throughput gain that is about 350 Kbps in 11 dB SNR range. Especially, comparing with the conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique using 2 transmit and 2 receive antennas, the proposed system with STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme show that the improvement of maximum throughput is about 1.77 Mbps in the same SNR range.

Also, we consider and compare the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is simply combined V-BLAST with Turbo Coding scheme and the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is decoded by the ML (Maximum Likelihood) decoding algorithm. We observe a throughput performance and a complexity. As a result of a performance comparison of each system, it has been proved that the complexity of the proposed decoding algorithm is lower than that of the ML decoding algorithm but is higher than that of the conventional V-BLAST decoding algorithm. however, we can see that the proposed system achieves a better throughput performance than the conventional system in the whole SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) range. And the result shows that the proposed system achieves a throughput performance close to the ML decoded system. Specifically, a simulation shows that the maximum throughput improvement in each MIMO scheme is respectively about 350 kbps, 460 kbps, and 740 kbps compared to the conventional system. It is suggested that the effect of the proposed decoding algorithm accordingly gets higher as the number of system antenna increases.
