Possibility of federation improvement requires flexibility and adaptability of member federates. Moreover, to develop and convert a non-HLA(High Level Architecture) compliant model as a HLA federate and allow this federate to be integrated with a changeable federation, more time and efforts will be necessary. In this research, I proposed a method to design and implement a ROM (RTI Object Model) Framework as a solution to this problem. ROM completely separates RTI (Run-Time Infrastructure) programming and simulation programming therefore providing epochal efficiencies in cost and productivity to the development a HLA federate that supports a changeable FOM. That is, ROM contains two layers : 1) a management layer that manages RTI services between the RTI and the federate and 2) a Foundation Class layer that actually updates/reflects objects and interactions. These two layers allow federate developers to use more generalized HLA services and automates the iterative, low-level RTI programming process.
This paper is related to a morphological segmentation method for extracting the moving object in video sequence using global motion compensation and two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding. First, global motion compensation is performed with camera panning vector estimated in the hierarchical pyramid structure constructed by wavelet transform. Secondly, the regions with high possibility to include the moving object between two consecutive frames are extracted block by block from the global motion compensated image using two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding. Afterwards, the LUT classifying each block into one among changed block, uncertain block, stationary block according to the results classified by two-dimensional spatio-temporal entropic thresholding is made out. Next, by adaptively selecting the initial search layer and the search range referring to the LUT, the proposed HBMA can effectively carry out fast motion estimation and extract object-included region in the hierarchical pyramid structure. Finally, after we define the thresholded gradient image in the object-included region, and apply the morphological segmentation method to the object-included region pixel by pixel and extract the moving object included in video sequence. As shown in the results of computer simulation, the proposed method provides relatively good segmentation results for moving object and specially comes up with reasonable segmentation results in the edge areas with lower contrast.
This paper addresses a hybrid control architecture for the hospital service robot, SmartHelper. In hybrid architecture, the deliberation takes place at planning layer while the reaction is dealt through the parallel execution of operations. Hence, the system presents both a hierarchical and an heterarchical decomposition, being able to show a predictable response while keeping rapid reactivity to the dynamic environment. The deliberative controller accomplishes four functions which are path generation, selection of navigation way, command and monitoring. The reactive controller uses fuzzy and potential field method for robot navigation. Through simulation under a virtual environment IGRIP, the effectiveness of the hybrid architecture is verified.
In conclusion, the seemingly fuzzy and disorganized data of biology with thousands of different layers ranging from molecule to the Internet have refused so far to be mapped precisely and predicted successfully by mathematicians, physicists or computer scientists. Genomics and bioinformatics are the fields that process such complex data. The insights on the nature of biological entities as complex interaction networks are opening a door toward a generalization of the representation of biological entities. The main challenge of genomics and bioinformatics now lies in 1) how to data mine the networks of the domains of bioinformatics, namely, the literature, metabolic pathways, and proteome and structures, in terms of interaction; and 2) how to generalize the networks in order to integrate the information into computable genomic data for computers regardless of the levels of layer. Once bioinformatists succeed to find a general principle on the way components interact each other to form any organic interaction network at genomic scale, true simulation and prediction of life in silico will be possible.
The yaw and interference effects of blades affect aerodynamic performance of large wind turbine system significantly, thus influencing wind-induced response and stability performance of the tower-blade system. In this study, the 5MW wind turbine which was developed by Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) was chosen as the research object. Large eddy simulation on flow field and aerodynamics of its wind turbine system with different yaw angles(
Although the evolution and deployment of information technologies will undoubtedly play an important role in the current construction industry, many engineers are still unsure of the economic value of using these technologies. Especially for the planning of a construction project, a collaboration system to utilize the whole resources is a essential tool for the successful outcome. A detailed, authoritative, and readily accessible information model is needed to enable engineers to make cost-effective decisions among established and innovative plan alternatives. Most engineers rely on limited private experiences when they create solutions or design alternatives. Initial planning is crucial for the success of the construction project. Most construction projects are done through collaboration of engineers who have different specialized knowledge. Information technologies can dramatically enhance the performance of the collaboration. For the information delivery, we need a mediator between engineers. Object-based 3-D models are useful for the communication and decision assistance for the intelligent project design. In this paper, basic guidelines for the 3-D design according to different construction processes are suggested. Adequate interoperability of 3-D objects from any CAD system is essential for the collaboration. Basic architectures of geometry models and their information layer were established to enable interoperability for design checks, estimation and simulation. A typical international project for roadway was chosen for the pilot project. 3-D GIS model was created and bridge information models were created considering several requirements for planning and decision making of the project. From the pilot test, the integrated construction project planning using 3-D information models was discussed and several guidelines were suggested.
The purpose of this study is to develop machine embroidery textile designs for each technique that can be expressed using a single-headed computer embroidery sewing machine through a machine embroidery CAD system. For research, embroidery CAD utilized the Artistic digitizer, and the guillotine computer-mechanical magnetization machine used ELNA. The design concept was limited to portraits and relics of independence activists in six memorial halls built in Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was found that the machine embroidery texture, which could only be produced by industries in the past, can be expand in the infinite creative embroidery design area by enabling the digitalization of motif images and the simulation of machine embroidery techniques through various layout options. Second, in the development of machine embroidery textures, it was found that the setting of the width, height, axis ratio, stitch, object, path, length, density, layer order, etc. in embroidery CAD is a very important part of determining the completeness of the embroidery results. Third, mechanical embroidery textile designs, which can be represented by single-head computer machine embroidery machine were able to show colorful embroidery results that differs from the original image by using seven main techniques and five deep technique alone or in combination, according to the designer's intention.
An object in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is affected by many environmental conditions unlike earth's surface such as, Atomic oxygen (AO), Ultraviolet Radiation (UV), thermal cycling, High Vacuum and Micrometeoroids and Orbital Debris (MMOD) impacts. The effect of all these parameters have to be carefully considered when designing a space structure, as it could be very critical for a space mission. Polybenzimidazole (PBI) is a high performance thermoplastic polymer that could be a suitable material for space missions because of its excellent resistance to these environmental factors. A thin coating of PBI polymer on the carbon epoxy composite laminate (referred as CFRP) was found to improve the energy absorption capability of the laminate in event of a hypervelocity impact. However, the overall efficiency of the shield also depends on other factors like placement and orientation of the laminates, standoff distances and the number of shielding layers. This paper studies the effectiveness of using a PBI coating on the front bumper in a multi-shock shield design for enhanced hypervelocity impact resistance. A thin PBI coating of 43 micron was observed to improve the shielding efficiency of the CFRP laminate by 22.06% when exposed to LEO environment conditions in a simulation chamber. To study the effectiveness of PBI coating in a hypervelocity impact situation, experiments were conducted on the CFRP and the PBI coated CFRP laminates with projectile velocities between 2.2 to 3.2 km/s. It was observed that the mass loss of the CFRP laminates decreased 7% when coated by a thin layer of PBI. However, the study of mass loss and damage area on a witness plate showed CFRP case to have better shielding efficiency than PBI coated CFRP laminate case. Therefore, it is recommended that PBI coating on the front bumper is not so effective in improving the overall hypervelocity impact resistance of the space structure.
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70
