The primary procedural components of deviated nose correction are as follows: osteotomy to correct bony deviation, septal deviation correction, manipulation of the dorsal septum to correct upper lateral cartilage deviation, and correction of functional problems (manipulation for correction of internal valve collapse and hypertrophy of the inferior turbinate). The correction of tip and nostril asymmetry cannot be overemphasized, because if tip and nostril asymmetry is not corrected, patients are unlikely to provide favorable evaluations from an aesthetic standpoint. Tip asymmetry, deviated columella, and resulting nostril asymmetry are primarily caused by lower lateral cartilage problems, which include deviation of the medial crura, discrepancy in the height of the medial crura, and asymmetry or deformity of the lateral crura. However, caudal and dorsal septal deviation, which is a more important etiology, should also be corrected. A columellar strut graft, correction of any discrepancy in the height of the medial crura, or lateral crural correction is needed to correct lower lateral cartilage deformation depending on the type. In order to correct caudal septal deviation, caudal septal shortening, repositioning, or the cut-and-suture technique are used. Surgery to correct dorsal septal deviation is performed by combining a scoring and splinting graft, a spreader graft, and/or the clocking suture technique. Moreover, when correcting a deviated nose, correction of asymmetry of the alar rim and alar base should not be overlooked to achieve tip and nostril symmetry.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle activity of the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, rectus femoris, and gluteus medius muscles according to the medial/lateral bias of the knee during lunge exercise. Design: Crossed-control group study Methods: This study recruited 20 healthy men and women in their 20s who were capable of lunge exercise and had no musculoskeletal or neurological abnormalities. All three postures were performed three times each during lunge exercise. In each posture, surface electromyography (EMG) equipment was used to measure muscle activity of the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, rectus femoris, and gluteus medius during lunge exercise. Results: As a result of comparing lower extremity muscle activity in normal, medial and lateral knee-deviation postures according to lunge exercise, the muscle activity of the vastus medialis was 107.09±13.90% in the normal posture, 79.24±5.26% in the medial- deviation posture and 125.73±14.30% in the lateral- deviation posture, which was a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). However, In the case of the vastus lateralis, rectus femoris and gluteus medius there was no statistically significant difference in muscle activity in the medial and lateral deviation positions(p>0.05). Conclusions: As a result, it was found that the muscle activity of the vastus medialis during lunge exercise significantly increased in the lateral deviation posture compared to the normal and medial deviation postures. In the case of the vastus lateralis, rectus femoris and gluteus medius there was no significant difference in muscle activity for medial and lateral knee deviation.
Background: The hyoid bone is the only non-jointed structure among the skeletal tissues of the head and neck region, and its movement and posture depend on the attached muscle, ligament, and fascia. The location of the hyoid bone is important for airway maintenance, vocalization, chewing, swallowing, breathing, and head and scapular position. In general, the location of the hyoid bone is measured using radiographs and 3D computed tomography, and no studies have reported on clinical measurement methods. Objects: This study was performed to suggest clinical measurement methods for lateral deviation of the hyoid bone and to evaluate their reliability. Methods: In this study, 24 healthy volunteers (12 males, 12 females) in Cheongju-si participated. Two examiners performed the center point test and lateral motion test twice each to measure the lateral displacement of the hyoid bone. The reliability of the center point test was analyzed using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC), and the reliability of the lateral motion test was analyzed using Cohen's kappa coefficient. Results: The intra-rater reliability of the center point test was good, and the inter-rater reliability was moderate. The intra- and inter-rater reliability of the lateral motion test showed substantial reliability. Conclusion: Based on these results, the center point test and the lateral motion test can be used as an alternative methods of the measurement of lateral deviation of the hyoid bone for people who have musculoskeletal disorders of the head, neck, and scapula.
The real behavior of the RC structures constructed based on the assumed specifications of the used materials is matched with the designed ones when the assumed and the applied specifications in construction are the same. Despite in the construction phase of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures always it is tried to implement the same specifications of materials as given in the executive drawings, but considering the unpredicted/uncontrolled parameters that affect the specification of materials, always there is a deviation between the constructed and the designed materials' specifications. The objective of this paper is to submit a guideline for the evaluation of the strength and damage to the existing RC structures encountered deviation in materials' strengths. To achieve this goal, the lateral strength (plastic behaviors) and damage to twenty-five RC moment-resisting frames (MRFs) are studied by applying the inelastic analysis. In this study, a couple of concrete and reinforcement strengths' deviations are investigated. The obtained results indicate that in general, there is a semi-linear relationship between the deviation in the strength of reinforcement and the changes in the lateral strength values of the MRFs. The relative effect of the deviation in the strength of reinforcements is more than the relative effect of the deviation in the concrete strength on the damage rate. The obtained results could be a guideline for the engineers in the survey of the existing buildings encountered deviation in materials' strengths during their construction phase.
Background: The relationship between the lateral deviation of chin and the upper and middle facial third asymmetry is still controversial. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the correlation of upper and middle facial third asymmetry with lateral deviation of chin using 3-dimensional computed tomography. The study was conducted on patients who underwent orthognathic surgery from January 2016 to August 2017. A total of 40 patients were included in this retrospective study. A spiral scanner was used to obtain the 3-dimensional computed tomography scans. The landmarks were assigned on the reconstructed 3-dimensional images, and their locations were verified on the axial, midsagittal, and coronal slices. The Pearson correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the correlation between chin deviation and difference between the measurements of distances in paired craniofacial structures. Statistical analysis was performed at a significance level of 5%. Results: In mandible, the degree of chin deviation was correlated with the mandibular length and mandibular body length. Mandibular length and mandibular body length are shorter on the deviated-chin side compared to that on the non-deviated side (mandibular length, r = -0.897, p value < 0.001; mandibular body length, r = -0.318, p value = 0.045). In the upper and middle facial thirds, the degree of chin deviation was correlated with the vertical asymmetry of the glenoid fossa and zygonion. Glenoid fossa and zygonion are superior on the deviated-chin side than on the non-deviated side (glenoid fossa, r = 0.317, p value = 0.046; zygonion, r = 0.357, p value = 0.024). Conclusion: Lateral deviation of chin is correlated with upper and middle facial third asymmetry as well as lower facial third asymmetry. As a result, treatment planning in patients with chin deviation should involve a careful evaluation of the asymmetry of the upper and middle facial thirds to ensure complete patient satisfaction.
Objective: We intended to show the relation between whiplash injury and deviation of upper cervical through analysing patients having deviation of upper cervical injuried by whiplash. Methods: We chose 40 patients who have been admitted for whiplash injury syndrome in vertebral-joint center of Conmaul oriental medical hospital during 2001.10.1-2003.10.15. We examined cervical simple X-ray of them according to the traffic accident patterns and the position in the veicle. Results: The 97% of the cases showed AS deviation and the 95% of them complained neck pain. The first cases collided from the back on the driving seat showed AS deviation. The second cases collided from the front on the back seat showed AS deviation of left lateral misalignment of atlas. The third cases collided from the front on the assistant seat showed AS deviation of right lateral misalignment of atlas.
The study with the subjects at 200 adult males in Busan in their 20s had a purpose at analyzing lateral body shapes to develop men's educational dress forms. The following are the conclusions: 1. Comparison at the Body Dimensions at Busan Male Adults in Their 20s and the 5th Survey at Korean Body Measurement In the comparison at the Busan and national body dimensions by way at Mollison's relative deviation, all compared items were under the deviation of 0.7. Therefore, the sample of Busan male grown-ups is understood io represent the body shapes of the average Korean male adults in their 20s. 2. Results of Lateral Body Shape Classification From factor analysis, seven factors were produced to explain 75.45% of all variables. Those 7 factors to compose lateral body shapes were hip prominence, back-neck sides, upper body's front-back depth, lateral upper body depth, hip-waist depth, front chest-waist depth, and hip and waist height. Cluster analysis revealed four characteristic lateral body shapes. Type 1 with the appearance rate of 11.70%, named D, had the greatest upper chest angle and tanterior neck lower angle. The front side was more developed. Type 2 with 33.51%, named I, was generally long and slender. Type 3 with 24.47%, named d, had the biggest depth differences in hip-chest as well as more prominent back hip. Type 4 with 30.32%, named q, had the biggest dorsal upper angle and the tiniest chest upper angle as the back area was a little bent.

Condylar process of mandible is an important and fuctionally versatile part of the mandible. There were quite large amount of investigations on the functional and anatomical adaptation of the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) to the surrounding tissues. But controversies on the mechanism of functional adaptation of the joint still exist. In this research, we investigated changes in the TMJ by the lateral deviation of the maxillary incisor to shift the mandible right, and bone the undecalcified microscopic sections with fluorescent microscope and von Kossa staining with bright field microscope. Results were as follows: 1. Lateral deviation rendered shifting and tilting of the mandible, There were, compressions in the right joint and opening of the left joint space at early stage. At the same time, both condyles shifted slightly to anterior. 2. After $2{\sim}4$ weeks, left condyle showed anterior displacement and compressions in the joint space. Right condyle showed only slight shift to the anterior. 3. Regardless of the direction of the lateral shift, anterior bite plate compressed both condyle heads until 2 weeks. 4. There are bone resorptions in the anterior aspect of the condyle head and apposition of posterior border. Bone remodeling were observed between 3 and 4 weeks. 5. After 8 weeks of the experiment, there were little differences in condylar morphology between experimental and control group, though slight shifting and compression were still present in the experimental group. Lateral deviation of mandible evoked active remodeling of the TMJ until functional and anatomical reconstruction of TMJ position was achieved.
Purpose : A new method of lateral cephalometric analysis for midface, focusing on zygomatic bone, was created in this study, and measured in Korean adults. The purposes of this study are understanding about new approach for midfacial depression, especially zygomatic bone, and using to make adequate diagnosis and treatment plan. Materials and methods : In this study, esthetic Korean adults, 25 males and 25 females who were between $0^{\circ}$ and $4^{\circ}$ in ${\angle}ANB$, and between 62% and 70% in P/A facial height ratio, and had normal overbite and overjet, were used. Orbitale(Or) and Soft tissue orbitale(Or') were used for indicators of anteroposterior position of zygomatic area. And, mean value and standard deviation of linear and angular measurements, and ratio about each linear measurements, were obtained. then, standard deviation diagram - wiggle diagram - was made for visualization of results. Results : Mean values, standard deviations and ranges of 19 measurements were obtained, and among them, 5 linear measurements that had large standard deviation were excluded and the others were used for making standard deviation diagram. In standard deviation diagram, the following results were obtained. 1. If the measurements are located on more left side of mean-value-vertical -line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are stronger, especially zygomatic area. 2. If the measurements are located on more right side of mean-value-vertical-line, the potential of midfacial hypoplasia are decreased. Conclusion : This study presented a new method of lateral cephalometric analysis focusing on zygomatic bone in Korean adults. We expect that the results of this study can be used as parameter when clinicians make decisions about diagnosis and treatment plan for rehabilitation of esthetics and function. But, it is necessary to prove its usefulness, and to further evaluate the results.

Miscentering in the left and right X axis direction during CT examination affects dose and quality. When the CT Gantry Isocenter and the center of the examination objective are matched using the Lateral Sliding Table, the image quality is improved and the exposure dose is reduced. CTDI Head Phantom (Kimda, Korea) and dosimeter (Ray Safe, Sweden) were used to measure dose comparison CTDI (mGy) due to center deviation, and Water Phantom (HITACHI, Japan) was used to measure noise to see the difference in uniformity due to center deviation. Measurements of doses for dose comparison CTDI (mGy) with a deviation showed that doses were consistently reduced and exact dose was not projected until they were moved to 80 mm by 20 mm from the Isocenter. SD values were measured to see the difference in uniformity due to center deviation and the noise continued to increase until it was moved by 20 mm to 80 mm. The range of collimation has increased by the extent of deviating from the center and the range of exposure has increased. Using the Lateral Sliding Table, you can easily adjust the Isocenter, increase the quality of the image by adjusting the Isocenter in areaa such as the cardiac examination of the location away from the Isocenter, Extreme bone and Shoulder, and greatly reduce the collimation to the Isocenter, so it can be used to reduce unnecessary exposure dose.
