This study was undertaken to elucidate effects of ingesting small or large amount of tap or iced water on circulation of normal healthy men with the purpose of furnishing basic data for nursing intervention of myocardial infarction patients. The subjects for this study were normal healthy men consisting of 30men and 30women in age from 22 to 30 years. One group consisting of 30men drank 240m1 tap water on day l and 240m1 iced water 24hours later. The other group drank 960m1 tap water on day 1 and 960m1 iced water 24hours later. Blood pressure and heart rate were taken in a sitting position before ingesting water, and immediately after ingesting it and at 2,5,10,15,30 minute intervals thereafter. Changes of heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure after ingesting water were compared with those of preingestive period. The results obtained were as follows : 1. There were no significant changes in blood pressure and heart rater after ingesting small amount of water regardless of its temperature. 2. No significant decrease in blood pressure after ingesting large amount of tap water at all time peroids was noted. 3. A strongly significant interaction effect bet-ween temperature and volume was demonstrated, that is, there was a highly significant decrease in blood pressure and heart rate at all time periods after ingesting large amount of iced water.
The management of coincident glaucoma and cataract is not only a common clinical challenge but also an important research topic in the ophthalmic surgical field. The purpose of this article is to compare the different surgical options on the basis of their achievable postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) control, success rates, and complication rates reported in the related literature, and to give advice on how to manage typical situations of patients with both glaucoma and cataract. Main topics were focused on indications and rationale of 3 surgical options (only cataract surgery first and later trabeculectomy, only trabeculectomy first and later cataract surgery, or simultaneous combined surgery). Modern clear corneal cataract extraction techniques resulted in a modest intermediate-term reduction of IOP and has considerably improved the success rates of combined glaucoma and cataract surgery. It also enabled future trabeculectomy to be successfully performed at a later date if necessary. Trabeculectomy alone achieved better IOP regulation than phacotrabeculectomy (combined surgery), but subsequent cataract surgery may compromise preexisting filtering bleb. Combined surgery augmented with mitomycin C achieved a lower IOP than combined surgery alone but had a higher complication rate. In conclusion, the choice of the preferred surgical method should be determined according to the target pressure, the amount of glaucomatous damage, and the grade of visual disturbance caused by the cataract. Phacotrabeculectomy with adjunctive mitomycin C offers visual improvement and achieves the best IOP lowering of all types of combined glaucoma and cataract surgery currently used but is associated with potentially sight-threatening complications.
Expert system is a practical application part of the artificial intelligence and can be generally described as a computer-based system designed to simulate the knowledge and reasoning of a human expert, and to make that knowledge conveniently available to other people in a useful way. Expert systems consist of three major components, knowledge base, inference engine and user interface. In this paper, it is aimed to construct a prototype system to design the horizontal-typed pressure vessel. To do this, a representative artificial programming language, Turbo Prolog, was employed, and the knowledge representation was mainly done by the production rule such as "If(condition), than (action)" style and by the predicate logic. In the developed system, it was quite easy to represent the knowledge of "If(condition), then (action)"style and by the predicate logic. In the developed system, it was quite easy to represent the knowledge of "If(condition). then(action)" style and the various table-like data. It was also effective to represent the graphics. Though this expert system is by now small and incomplete, it is possible to expand it to a larger and refined system later.rger and refined system later.
An experiment on the expression and dewatering of chinese cabbage was conducted in order to investigate its dewatering behavior. Chopped cabbage was packed into cylinder and pressed by piston upto the predetermined pressure on Instron-1000. The rates of dewatering were affected domintantly by the applied pressure, but not significantly by the packed amount of cabbage in the cylinder. The pressure effect was increased very abruptly at first, but the increase rate was very low at high pressure greater than 20 MPa, showing great deviation from linear dependence of flow rate on pressure in Darcy's Law. Therefore, water expression from cabbage was not Newtonian flow of water through cell wall. In fact, the squeezed water contained a lot of solid particles, about 3% of solid cabbage particles, showing destruction of cell wall. It appeared that compression and dewatering of vegetable wastes in the low pressure. under 20 MPa, is more desirable for later treatment of the dewater. More researches are needed in order to develop a treatment method for the solid particles in the expressed water before an expeller treatment system can be applied to vegetable wastes.

Direct numerical simulations are performed for a turbulent flow subjected to a sudden change in pressure gradient. The calculations are started from a fully-developed turbulent channel flow at $Re_{\tau}=180$. The pressure gradient of the channel flow is then changed abruptly. The responses of the turbulence quantities (e.g., turbulence intensities, Reynolds shear stress, and vorticity fluctuations) and the near-wall turbulence structure to the pressure gradient change are investigated. It is found that there are two different relaxations: a fast relaxation at the early stage and a slow one at the later stage. The early response of the velocity fluctuations shows an anisotropic response of the near-wall turbulence.
Snow cover is a potential water resource for later spring and summer seasons as well as a thermal mirror with high reflectivity causing decreases of surface air temperature during cold winter seasons. In this study, current and future changes in Northern Hemisphere snow extent and their potential linkages with atmospheric circulation are examined. The NOAA AVHRR visible snow extent (1967-2006) data as well as observational (NCEP-DOE 1979-2006) and modeled (GFDL 2.1 2081-2100) pressure and surface air temperature data are used. Analyses of observational data demonstrate that the snow extent in meteorological spring (March to April) and summer (June to August) has significantly decreased since the late 1980s. The offset of snow seasons (the timing of snow melt in spring) have also significantly advanced particularly in Europe, East Asia, and northwestern North America. Analyses of pressure fields reveal that the spatial patterns of the earlier snow melt are associated with changes in atmospheric circulation such as the Arctic Oscillation (AO). In the positive winter AO years, multiple positive pressure departure cores in the upper troposphere (200hPa) are observed over the mid-latitude regions from March to mid-April, while a negative pressure departure core (70hPa) prevails over the Arctic Ocean. The reversed anomaly patterns related to later snow melt occur in negative winter AO years. The comparison between current and future thermal spring onsets suggest that snow melt patterns will intensify with larger greenhouse gas emissions, indicating earlier hydrological spring onset.
Objectives : We conducted a randomized, double-blinded clinical trial to assess the anti-hypertensive effect of Ginseng and to know the difference of the effect according to it's growing districts md species by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure measurement (ABPM). Methods : We allocated 96 hypertensive patients enrolled in this trial to Korean ginseng(KG), American ginseng (AG), Chinese ginseng (CG), and Korean red ginseng (KRG) groups by randomization. Each subject was administered 4.5mg/day of encapsulated ginseng for 4 weeks. We assessed anti-hypertensive effect, blood pressure variability using ABPM and toxicity by blood chemistry before and after treatment. We also evaluated changes of symptoms due to hypertension and adverse effect in all groups at the first visit, 2 weeks later and 4 weeks later. Results : Blood pressure after treatments showed significant decrease of systolic blood pressure (sBP) in the CG-group (p<0,05) and diastolic blood pressure (dBP) in the KRG-group (p<0.05). However, there were no significant changes of sBP (or dBP) after treatment in the other groups and no significant difference in changes of BP between before and after treatment among the 4 groups. Blood pressure variability in the CG-group showed significant decrease after treatment but not in the KRG-group. Symptoms such as headache or neck stiffness and heating sensation due to hypertension improved significantly in all groups, especially in the KRG-group. A3l patients had no adverse effect after treatment and there was no liver or kidney toxicity. Conclusions : CG and KRG seem to have anti-hypertensive effects, but there was no significantly different effect depending on growing district and species of Ginseng.
This experiment was carried out to investigate of the early pregnancy diagnosis by finger pressure method, mucus smear method and rectal palpation method in 169 heads of pregnant dairy cow. 1. Pregnancy diagnostic rate of previous, middle and late period of pregnancy by finger pressure methods were 87.3%, 82.0% and 70% respectively. 2. Pregnancy diagnostic rate of previous, middle and late period of pregnancy by mucus smear methods were 83.1%. 94.9% and 95.0% respectively. 3. Pregnancy diagnostic rate of previous, middle and later period of pregnancy by rectal palpation methods were 83.1%, 96.1% and 100% respectively. 4. Pregnancy diagnostic rate of early pregnancy by finger pressure method, mucus smear method and rectal palpation method were 86.7%, 86.8% and 66% respectively. 5. Accordingly, finger pressure method in pregnancy diagnosis is thought to be recommendable because this early diagnostic means are simple with accurate results.
Spart-ignition engine knock is an abnormal combustion phenomenon originated from auto- ignition of a portion of or the entire end-gas during the later stage of combustion process. And engine knock is accompanied by a vibration of engine cylinder block and a high-pitched metallic noise. Engine knock is characterized in terms of its intensity, its occurrence crank angel and the percentage of engine knock cycles. To characterize engine knock, a precise measurements of cylinder pressure and a statistical analysis of cylinder pressure data are needed. The purpose of this study is to develope a technique to measure engine knock and its characteristics as a function of ignition timing change. A 4-cylinder spark-ignition engine and unleaded gasoline, whose octane number was 94, were used for experiments. To measure engine knock and to analyze engine knock characteristics, cylinder pressure data were sampled by a high speed data acquisition system which was developed in this study. Cylinder pressure data were sampled at each 0.1.deg. crank angle and the number of cycles continuously sampled was 80.
