Conoscopic Holography를 이용한 3D Burr 측정기술 개발 (Development of 3D Burr Measurement Technique using Conoscopic Holography)

  • Generally, for the burrs formed in machining are irregular and very sharp in shape, it is usually very difficult to measure burr accurately. But, it is proved that precision measurement for micro burr using the conoprobe sensor by conoscopic holography method is possible. We developed 3D burr measurement system using this sensor. The system is composed of Conoscopic laser Sensor, X-Y table, controller and 3D measurement program. Some measurements using the developed system are applied to burrs formed in micro drilling and piercing.

  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) includes high voltage generator, electron gun, column, secondary electron detector, scan coil system and image grabber. Column includes electron lenses (condenser lens and objective lens). Condenser lens generates fringe field, makes focal length and control spot size. Focal length represents property of lens. Objective lens control focus. Most of the electrons emitted from the filament, are captured by the anode. The portion of the electron current that leaves the gun through the hole in the anode is called the beam current. Electron beam probe is called the focused beam on the specimen. Because of the lens and aperture, the probe current becomes smaller than the beam current. It generate various signals(backscattered electron, secondary electron) in an interaction with the specimen atoms. In this paper, we describe the result of research to develop the core elements for low-resolution SEM.

특징영역별 분산분석에 의한 이종두께 겹치기 $CO_2$ 레이저 용접에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Lap Joint $CO_2$ Laser Welding of Different Gauge Sheets Using ANOVA in Characteristic Zones)

  • The laser welding in the automotive industries has been used widely for the butt joint of blank sheets rather than the lap joint of automotive body panels. But as a substitute far the spot welding of automotive body panels, the so called three dimensional laser welding will be important far the body panel engineers. Specially the laser welding of body panels with a smooth weld line is applied increasingly, for example, to the side panels. So far, some criteria of the laser weld quality was suggested by in-house regulations or national standards from experiences and/or rule of thumbs. In the manufacturing places, a go or no-go criterion is adopted because of the simplicity or a lack of rational criteria. It is true specially for the selection of the process parameters, which gives the basic causes for the good quality of laser welds. In this study, the effects of joint combination, gap and welding speed on the lap joint $CO_2$ laser welding of two mild steel sheets with different thicknesses are obtained through a $2{\times}3{\times}7$ factorial experiment. The results of the weld quality are statistically analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and compared between two characteristic zones, which are separated by the type of sectional shapes and the level of input energy per volume. The thickness combinations are 0.8mm/1.2mm, 1.2mm/0.8mm of mild steel sheets. The welding speed covers from the deep penetration to the partial penetration. The gap size has three levels of no-gap, 0.16m, and 0.26mm. The bead width, penetration depth and input energy per volume are measured and used as the weld quality criteria.

유리의 미세구조를 이용한 장기보존형 기록재료에 관한 연구 (A Study of Long Term Recording Reserved Type Material by Using Glass Micro-structure)

  • Recently, there are a lot of study to alternate polycarbonate which is being used as storage material in CD, DVD. In this study, we alternated polycarbonate with glass. We observed the change of shape in a surface of the glass which was focused by Nd:YAG Laser. The change of shape and property was studied by thermal mechanical analysis (TMA), UV-Vis spectrometer, AFM and SEM. According to Laser power and quantity of additives, the Bump's size and shape are showed differently. In high energy, the Bump will be transformed into Pit. And also according to CTE, $T_d$ and absorption ratio of glass, difference between Bump and Pit is confirmed. From these investigation, we could control that the minimum size of bump which is more useful shape than pit's is about 1.3 $\mu$m, H 70 nm, and it is near same the spot size.

Maximizing the Workspace of Optical Tweezers

  • Scanning Laser Optical Tweezers(SLOT) is an optical instrument frequently employed on a microscope with laser being delivered through its various ports. In most SLOT systems, a mechanical tilt stage with a mirror on top is used to dynamically move the laser focal point in two-dimensions. The focal point acts as a tweezing spot, trapping nearby microscopic objects. By adding a mechanical translational stage with a lens, SLOT can be expanded to work in three-dimensions. When two mechanical stages operate together, the focal point can address a closed three-dimensional volume that we call a workspace. It would be advantageous to have a large workspace since it means one can trap and work on multiple objects without interruptions, such as translating the microscope stage. However, previous studies have paid less consideration of the volumetric size of the workspace. In this paper, we propose a new method for designing a SLOT such that its workspace is maximized through optimization. The proposed method utilizes a matrix based ray tracing method and genetic algorithm(GA). To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, experimental results are shown.

SCM440H 금형강의 표면 처리에 따른 피로 특성 연구 (Effect of Surface Treatment on Fatigue Strength of SCM440H)

  • Increased efficiency and improved performance associated with light-weight materials were investigated in this study. Numerous studies have investigated surface treatments to improve the fatigue strength of metals. Laser heat treatment is a promising method because the power and spot size can be easily controlled, allowing a small heat affected zone (HAZ). However, changes in the material properties can result; in particular, the material can become more brittle. In this study, a combination of laser heat treatment and vibration peening was proposed to increase fatigue strength without changing the material characteristics. SCM440H was investigated experimentally, and specimens were tested using a giga-cycle ultrasonic fatigue tester. The results show that the combination of these two processes significantly increased the fatigue strength and, furthermore, different fracture types were observed after a small and large number of cycles.

  • 복잡한 물리적 현상에 대한 수학적 모델을 만들기 위해 적용되는 차원해석은 LSP 공정변수의 영향을 이해하는데 중요한 도구가 된다. 본 연구에서는 버킹검(Buckingham) ${\prod}$이론을 이용한 차원해석을 통해 레이저 충격 피닝의 잔류응력 결과에 영향을 미치는 변수를 확인하고, 유한요소법을 이용하여 LSP 공정변수인 최대압력파, 압력파 지속시간, 레이저 샷 크기 및 다중 LSP 에 대한 잔류응력 결과를 확인하였다.

  • Die steel for plastic molding were used as mold material of automobile parts and electronic component industry. The material of this paper has superior to mechanical properties, such as repair weldability, corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, required mold parts for semitransparent. Laser-induced surface hardening technology is widely adopted to improver fatigue life and wear resistance via localized hardening at the surface of mold parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate on the characteristics of surface hardening of the laser process parameters, such as beam travel speed, laser power and defocsued spot position, for the case of die steel for plastic molding. Lens for surface hardening of large area is plano-convex type with elliptical profile to maintain uniform laser irradiation. According to the experimental results, large size of hardened layer at the surface of die steel for plastic molding was achieved, and microstructure of this layer was lath martensite. Optimal surface status and mechanical property of hardened layer could be obtained at 1095Watt, $0.25{\sim}0.3m/min$, 0mm (focal length: 232mm) for laser power, beam travel speed, and focal position. Where, heat input was $0.793{\times}10^{3}J/cm^2$, and width of hardened layer was 27.58mm.

LED광원을 이용한 초박형 백라이트에 대한 광학설계기법의 연구 (Study of Optical Design Method for Ultra Slim Backlight System Using LED Light Source)

  • We studied optical simulation method for ultra slim backlight system. We designed 0.7mm thickness light guide plate and combined 48 white color LEDs for 12 inch wide size TFT-LCD. We designed flat shape PMMA light guide plate with both side patterned. It have vertical prism shape on upper side and ellipse dot pattern on the other side. We targeted 4500 nit brightness and uniform emission characteristic without hot spot or dark area. At first, we designed uniform emission area with more high brightness in center area and then, debugged light entering hot spot zone and direction of outgoing light flux. Although it was designing step, we obtained good result with reverse prism optical sheet and it had good repeatability because it was based on the stamper method in injection process without laser engraving or micro groove engraving method.

포토폴리머와 희토류이온이 첨가된 유리에서의 이광자흡수를 이용한 광정보저장 (Optical memory in photopolymers and rare-earth ion-doped glasses using two-photon absorption)

  • 펨토초 레이저 펄스에 의한 포토폴리머의 투과율 변화와 Eu 이온과 Sm 이온이 첨가된 sodium borate 유리의 형광파장의 변화를 이용하여 3차원 광메모리 가능성을 연구하였다. 780 nm의 모드잠금 타이사파이어 레이저를 이용하여 이광자흡수에 의해 DuPont 포토폴리머에서는 투과율을 변화시켰으며 이로 인해 $0.6{\mu}m$ 크기의 비트를 형성하였다. Sm 이온이 첨가된 재료에서는 이광자흡수로 인한 Sm 이온의 광환원을 이용하여 $4{\mu}m$ 크기의 형광 비트를 얻을 수 있었고 다층구조에서의 비트 형성을 시도하였다.
