A study on the Optimum Conditions of Nd:YAG LBW for Zircaloy-4 End Cap Closure By Optical Fiber Transmission (광섬유전송에 의한 Zircaloy-4 봉단마개밀봉의 Nd:YAG LBW의 최적조건에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to investigate the optimum conditions of Nd:YAG laser beam welding for Zircaloy-4 end cap closure by optical fiber transmission. Laser welding parameters which affect the penetration depth and bead width were experimentally examined using the various beam radius by the beam quality analyzer, joint geometries of end cap and the laser parameters which mean pulse width, repetition rate and pulse energy. Also, an optimum welding speed and the effect of assistant gas with varying the flow rate of He were investigated. We found that the laser average power for the end cap welding will be 230W and rotation speed must not exceed 8 RPM, the best position of focus using optical fiber with 600.mu.m will be 2 to 3mm below the surface of the material.

  • Laser cutting technology is one of flexible rapid manufacturing technologies with various advantageous including a high cutting speed, manufacturing of parts with a complex shape and others. The quality of the cut part and the optimum cutting conditions are highly dependent on the combination of the process parameters. The objective of this research works is to investigate the influence of process parameters, such as power of laser, cutting speed of laser and material thickness, on the surface roughness and the striation formation of the cut section for the case of cutting of CSP 1N sheet using high power Nd:YAG Laser with a continuous wave (CW). In order to find the relationship between process parameters and the surface roughness and the striation formation of the cut section, several experiments are carried out. Through the investigation of the empirical results, it has been shown that the surface roughness is highly related to the striation formation, including the frequency and angle of the striation, of the cut section. From the results of experiments, an optimum cutting speed for each cutting condition has been obtained to improve both the quality of the cut surface and the cutting efficiency.

  • In this paper, surface roughness has been experimentally identified using laser scattering images. The parameters and optical deflected rays of laser scattering are investigated on laser scattering system, and then their optimum parameters on grinding surfaces are selected using design of experiment. The application of the optimum parameters results in featured laser scattering images, in which the mean of vertical scattering distributions is regarded as a feature. It is shown that the feature of laser scattering distributions is linearly increased according to grinding surface roughness and so the information can be used as important factor for the measurement and evaluation of various surface roughness. In the future, the performance of the proposed laser scattering method will be evaluated using AFM.

  • For the conventional welding method. the high heat transfer makes the crystallized zone of the work material unavoidable. Whereas the laser is able to weld the amorphous metal without a crystallized zone, because heat transfer is limited within a very small restricted volume. In this paper, the possibilities and the limits of the laser welding were studied to utilize the advantageous properties of amorphous metal foils.

  • In this study, an attempt was made to demonstrate the possibility of using laser scribing method in manufacturing the barrier ribs of plasma display panel. The scribing with a CO2 laser was conducted on the green tape produced by the doctor blade tape casting method. Among the processing parameters, the quenching gas pressure, shape of mask, and laser power were found to affect the depth and angle of the scibed barrier ribs.

  • During laser spot welding of the braun tube electron gun, phenomena such as serious spattering and oxidative reaction, etc. were occurred. The spatter occurred from weld pool affects the braun tube, namely it blocks up a very small hole on the shadow mask and causes short circuit between two roles of the electron gun. We guessed that high power density and oxidative reaction are main sources of these problems. So, we studied to prevent and to reduce spatter occurring in spot welding of the braun tube electron gun using pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The characteristics of laser output power was estimated, and the loss of laser energy by optical parameter and spatter was measured by powermeter. The effects of welding parameters, laser defocused distance and incident angle, were investigated on the shape and penetration depth of the laser welded bead in flare and flange joints. From these results, the laser peak power was a major factor to control penetration depth and to occur spatter. It was found that the losses of laser energy by optic parameter and sticked spatter affect seriously laser weldability of thin sheets. The deepest penetration depth is gotten on focal position, and a "bead transition" occurred with a slight displacement of focal position relative to the workpiece surface and the absorption rate of the laser energy is affected by the shape factor of the workpiece. When we changed the incident angle of laser beam, the penetration depth was decreased a little with increasing of the incident angle, and the bead width was increased. The spattering was prevented by considering laser beam energy and incident angle.ent angle.

  • The photophysical properties of 7-diethylaminocoumarin (DEAC) laser dye have been measured in different solvents. The emission spectrum of DEAC has also been measured in cationic (CTAC) and anionic (SDS) micelles. The laser parameters have been calculated in different solvents namely acetone, dioxane, ethanol and dimethylforamide(DMF). The photoreactivity of DEAC has been studied in $CCl_4$ solvent using 366 nm light. The values of photochemical yield (${\Phi}_c$) and rate constant (k) are determined. The interaction of organic acceptors such as picric acid (PA), tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracynoquinonedimethane (TCNQ) with DEAC are also studied using fluorescence measurements in acetonitrile ($CH_3CN$). The electrochemical investigation of (DEAC) has been carried out using cyclic voltammetry and convolutive voltammetry combined with digital simulation technique at a platinum electrode in 0.1 mol $L^{-1}$ tetrabutyl ammonium perchlorate (TBAP) in $CH_3CN$ solvent. The electrochemical parameters of the investigated compound were determined using cyclic and convolutive voltammetry. The extracted electrochemical parameters were verified and confirmed via digital simulation method.

  • Nowadays, $CO_2$ lasers are used widely in many applications such as materials fabrication, communications, remote sensing and military purpose etc. Especially, $CO_2$ lasers are in the spotlight at surface handling and heat processing. It is important to control the laser output power and beam Quality in those fields. And those are studied the important parameters deciding the fluctuation of laser beam are smoothing capacitor, frequency and the characteristics of laser resonator. But the study of plasma parameters of $CO_2$ lasers are little. So we detect the $CO_2$ laser from emitted $CO_2$ laser discharge plasma using a non-contact photo tansistor sensor and Low pass filter. In this study, The relativity of the emitted light of discharge plasma and CO2 laser output.

  • Stencil is used normally as a mask for seeder pasting on pad of PCB. The objective of this study is to develop stencil cutting system and determine optimal conditions which make good-quality stencil by using a Nd:YAG laser. The effects of process parameters such as laser power, type of mask, gas pressure, cutting speed and pulse width old the cut edge quality were investigated. In order to analyse fille cut surface characteristics(roughness, kerf width, dross) optical microscopy, SEM photography and roughness test were used. As a result, the optimal conditions of process parameters were determined, and the practical feasibility of the proposed system is also examined by using a commercial Gerber file for PCB stencil manufacturing.

  • Characteristics of laser-assisted wet etching of titanium in phosphoric acid were investigated to examine the feasibility of this method for fabrication of high aspect ratio microchannels. Laser power, number of scans, etchant concentration, position of beam waist and scanning speed were taken into consideration as the major process parameters exerting the temperature distribution and the cross sectional profile of etched channels. Experimental results indicated that laser power influences on both etch width and depth while number of scans and scanning speed mainly affect on the etch depth. At a low etchant concentration, the cross sectional profile of an etched channel becomes a U-shape but it gradually turns into a V-shape as the concentration increases. On the other hand, surface of the laser beam focus with respect to the sample surface is found to be a key factor determining the bubble dynamics and thus the process stability. It is demonstrated that metallic microchannels with different cross sectional profiles can be fabricated by properly controlling the process parameters. Microchannels of aspect ratio up to 8 with the width and depth ranges of 8∼32 m and 50∼300 m, respectively, were fabricated.
