Bridge structures are designed to support ordinary loadings such as vehicles, wind, temperature and current as well as unexpected loadings like earthquakes and storm. Especially, the displacement of Flexible bridges like an suspension bridge under ordinary loading conditions is necessary to be monitored. In case of long span bridges, there are some difficulties in monitoring the displacement of center of the main span using traditional laser displacement sensors. In this study, the static and dynamic displacement responses due to vehicle loadings were measured by DGPS(differential global positioning system) technique. The displacement response data were compared with data obtained from traditional laser displacement sensors so that the static and dynamic behavior of the bridge under vehicle loadings was examined and the applicability of the displacement response measurement using DGPS technique was verified. The static and dynamic loading test for an self-anchored suspension bridge, So-rok Bridge, was performed using vehicles. The displacement response from DGPS technique and that from laser displacement sensors of the bridge monitoring system were compared. The amplitude of white noise from DGPS based measurement was about 7 mm and that of laser displacement sensor based measurement was about 3 mm. On the other hand, dynamic behavior of the center of main span from DGPS based measurement showed better agreement with influence line of the bridge than that from laser displacement sensors. In addition, there were some irregular and discontinuous variation of data due to the instability of GPS receivers or frequent appearance of GPS satellites. Post-processing via the reference station close to an observation post provided by NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) will be a counter-plan for these defects.
Line-laser beams are used for accurate measurement of 3D shape, which is robust to external illumination. For depth measurement, we project a line-laser beam across an object from the face and take an image of the beam on the object surface using a CCD camera at some angle with respect to the face. For shape measurement, we project parallel line-laser beams with narrow line to line distance. When a layer of thin materials attached to a cylinder is long narrow along its circumference, we can measure the shape of the layer with a small number of parallel line beams if we project line beams along the circumference of the cylinder. Measurement of the depth of the attached materials on a line-laser beam is based on the number of pixels between an imaginary line along the imaginary cylinder without the attached materials and the beam line along the materials attached to the cylinder. For this we need to localize the imaginary line in the captured image. In this paper, we model the shape of the line as an ellipse and localize the line with least square estimate. The proposed method results in smaller error (maximum 0.24mm) than a popular 3D depth camera (maximum 1mm).
Laser interferometry is widely used as a measuring system in many fields because of its high resolution and its ability to measure a broad area in real-time all at once. In conventional laser interferometry, for example out-of-plane ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry), in plane ESPI, shearography and holography, it uses PZT or other components as a phase shift instrumentation to extract 3-D deformation data, vibration mode and others. However, in most cases PZT has some disadvantages, which include nonlinear errors and limited time of use. In the present study, a new type of laser interferometry using a laser diode is proposed. Using Laser Diode Sinusoidal Phase Modulating (LD-SPM) interferometry, the phase modulation can be directly modulated by controlling the laser diode injection current thereby eliminating the need for PZT and its components. This makes the interferometry more compact. This paper reports on a new approach to the LD (Laser Diode) Modulating interferometry that involves four-frame phase shift method. This study proposes a four-frame phase mapping algorithm, which was developed to have a guaranteed application, to stabilize the system in the field and to be a user-friendly GUI. In this paper, the theory for LD wavelength modulation and sinusoidal phase modulation of LD modulating interferometry is shown. Using modulating laser and research of measurement algorithm does comparison with existent ESPI measurement algorithm. Algorithm measures using GPIB communication through most LabVIEW 8.2. GPIB communication does alteration through PC. Transformation of measurement object measures through modulating laser algorithm that develops. Comparison of algorithm of modulating laser developed newly with existent PZT algorithm compares transformation price through 3-D. Comparison of 4-frame phase mapping, unwrapping, 3-D is then introduced.
One of the main problems in 3D shape measuring systems that use the triangulation of line-shaped laser light is precise center line detection of line-shaped laser stripe. The intensity of a line-shaped laser light stripe on the CCD image varies following to the reflection angles, colors and shapes of objects. In this paper, a new center line detection algorithm to compensate the local intensity variation on a line-shaped laser light stripe is proposed. The 3-D surface shape measuring system using the proposed center line detection algorithm can measure 3-D surface shape with enhanced measurement resolution by using the dynamic shape reconstruction with adaptive pattern clustering of the line-shaped laser light. This proposed 3-D shape measuring system can be easily applied to practical situations of measuring 3-D surface by virtue of high speed measurement and compact hardware compositions.
Laser induced incandescence, LII, recently developed technique for measuring soot concentration in flames, can overcome most of limitations of conventional laser extinction measurement. In this study, experiments were performed to investigate the effect of laser intensity, detection wavelength, and also laser beam quality on both LII signal at a particular position and peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio. The results of LII signal with increasing laser intensity shows its near-independence of laser intensity once threshold level of laser intensity has been reached. However, this near-independence depends on laser beam quality and the incident optical setup. The peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio slowly but continuously increases with laser power. This fact is due to the dependence of LII signal on particle mean diameter. LII signal is attenuated during it passes through the flame containing soot particles. The attenuation rate is inversely proportional to detection wavelength. In this study, LII signal at 680 nm band is 10% greater than the signal at 400 nm band.
The sheet metal shearing process is normally used in the precision elements such as semi-conductor components. In precision elements, burrs usually reduce the quality of machined parts and cause interference, jamming and misalignment during assembly procedures and because of their sharpness, they can be safety hazard to personnel. Furthermore, not only burrs are hard to predict and avoid, but also deburring, the process of removing burrs, is time-consuming and costly. In order to get the burr-free parts, therefore, we developed the precise burr measuring system using the laser. Using the X-Y precious table, we used vertical measuring method. Through the laser measurement system, we gain the minute analog signal, so this signal was amplified by the electric circuit. Finally, we gained the realtime burr data using A/D converter, PC. By introducing the novel laser measuring method which employing vertical measurement mechanism, we could get fast and precious burr data. Through the experiments, the accuracy of the developed system is proved. The burr height measured during the punching process can be used for automatic deburring and in-situ aligning.
The measurement of 3D shape is important in inspecting the quality of product. In this paper, we present a 3D shape measurement system of fastener using a camera and a slit laser. Calibration structure with slits is used in the extrinsic calibration of the camera and laser. The pose of the camera and laser is computed under the same world coordinate system in the calibration structure. Reflection of laser light on the metal surface causes many difficulties in the robust detection of them on image. We overcome this difficulty by using color and dynamic programming. Motor stage is used to rotate the fastener to recover the whole 3D shape of the surface of it.

Measurement of concentration distributions of suspended particles in a micro-channel is out of the most crucial necessities in the area of Lab-on-a-chip to be used for various bio-chemical applications. One most feasible way to measure the concentration field in the micro-channel is using micro-LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) method. However, an accurate concentration field at a given cross plane in a micro-channel has not been successfully achieved so far due to various limitations in the light illumination and fluorescence signal detection. The present study demonstrates a novel method to provide an ultra thin laser sheet beam having five(5) microns thickness by use of a micro focus laser line generator. The laser sheet beam illuminates an exact plane of concentration measurement field to increase the signal to noise ratio and considerably reduce the depth uncertainty. Nile Blue A was used as fluorescent dye for the present LIF measurement. The enhancement of the fluorescent intensity signals was performed by a solvent mixture of water $(95\%)$ and ethanol (EtOH)/methanol (MeOH) $(5\%)$ mixture. To reduce the rms errors resulted from the CCD electronic noise and other sources, an expansion of grid size was attempted from $1\times1\;to\;3\times3\;or\;5\times5$ pixel data windows and the pertinent signal-to-noise level has been noticeably increased accordingly.
In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the self-alignment/navigation performance in the accelerometer resonance state generated by dither motion of ring laser gyroscope in LINS and verified it through simulation. As a result of analysis, it is confirmed that the amplitude of the accelerometer measurement amplified in the accelerometer resonance state is decreased in the process of sampling per the navigation calculation period and that frequency is changed by the aliasing effect too. It was also analysed that the attitude error in self-alignment is determined by the amplitude/frequency of the accelerometer measurement, the gain of the self-alignment loop, and the velocity and position error in the navigation is determined by the amplitude/frequency/phase error of the accelerometer measurement. This analysis and simulation results show that the self-alignment and navigation performance is not be degraded only when the amplification factor of the accelerometer measurement in the accelerometer resonance state is 3 or less
In this study low priced laser measurement system was made, so its reliability was investigated Intensity distribution of laser beam measured by devised system and FFT analyzer and their results were examined for proving reliability of devised system. Transmitted laser beam intensity on photodiode changed by eccentrically rotating of disk cam and motor speed. To get results, photodiode and devised amplifier were used for changing voltage. After that, response signal was calculated by signal analysis program. It was found that the vibration of disk cam could be measured by the intensity distribution of laser beam and the same tendency was obtained by FFT. Change of motor speed effected the distribution of laser beam, which was obtained by devised system. Also linear distribution was got by sensitive balancing switch on amplifier according to the transmission of laser beam on photodide.
