  • The influence of fluorophor, scatterer, absorber in turbid materials by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength, it is studied the molecular property by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. It can be found that the effects of optical property are penentrated in scattering media by the optical $parameters({\mu}s$, ${\mu}a$, ${\mu}t$, ${\gamma}$, ${\rho})$. The value of scattering coefficient ${\mu}s$ is large appeared by means of the increasing particles of scattering, it can be found that the slope appears exponentially as a function of distance from laser source to detector. It may also utilize in designing the best model for oil chemistry, laser medicine and application of medical engineering.

  • The penetration depth and the size distribution of the droplets of fuel sprays are important in the operation of spark-ignition MPI engines. A fluorescence/scattering image technique for droplet sizing was applied to measure th edroplet size distribution in non-evaporating gasoline sprays. The fluorescence and scattering lights were imaged simultaneously by the two-dimensional visualization system composed of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and a CCD camera. Quantitative droplet size distributions were extracted from evaluating the ratio of the two light densities. The mean droplet size measured by the fluorescence/scattering technique was compared with the result obtained by the enlarged photographs of droplets. The fluorescence/scattering image technique also gives the useful information of the characteristics of droplet impingement in a inclined wall.

  • Laser Raman scattering method has been applied to measure equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in injected spray. We used high power KrF excimer laser$(\lambda=248nm)$ and a high gain ICCD camera to capture low intensity signal. Raman shifts and Raman scattering cross -sections of $H_2,\;O_2,\;N_2,\;CO_2,\;CH_4\;and\;C_3H_8$ are measured precisely. Our results show an excellent agreement with those of other groups. Mole fraction measurement of $O_2\;and\;N_2$ from air shows that $O_2:N_2=0.206:0.794$. We used gas injector which was operated at 1 bar. Methane is used as a fuel. Spray region is $10mm\times37mm$ and this region is divided into 80 points. In Raman signals are obtained and ensemble averaged for each point. 3-d and contour plot of distribution of equuivalence ratio is presented. Our measured results show that the equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in methane-rich region is reasonable. However, more study is necessary for methane-lean region because background noise level is almost same as Raman intensity of methane.

  • The influences of fluorescence, scattering, and flocculation in turbid material by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength, it has been studied the molecular properties by the spectroscopy of laser induced fluorescence (LIF). The effects of optical properties in scattering media have been found by the optical $parameters({\mu}_s,\;{\mu}_a,\;{\mu}_t)$. Flocculation is an important step in many solid-liquid separation processes and is widely used. When two particles approach each other, interactions of several colloid particles can come into play which may have major effect on the flocculation and LIF process, The value of scattering coefficient ${\mu}_s$ is large by means of the increasing particles of scatterer it has been found that the slope decays exponentially as a function of distance from laser source to detector. It may also aid in designing the best model for oil chemistry, biopharmaceutical products, laser medicine and application of medical engineering on LIF and coagulation in particle transport mode.

  • This study focuses on investigating the impact of the spectral linewidth of a seed laser in a master-oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) configuration on stimulated Brillouin scattering and the beam quality of the output diffracted by a grating. To conduct the study, a distributed feedback (DFB) laser is modulated in a pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS) and amplified by a two-stage Yb-doped fiber amplifier to achieve an output power of over 1 kW. The spectral linewidth of the seed laser is systematically varied from 1 to 12 GHz in the frequency domain by varying the PRBS modulation parameters. The experimental results reveal a tradeoff between suppressing stimulated Brillouin scattering and enhancing beam quality with increased spectral linewidth. Therefore, the study provides valuable insights into optimizing spectral beam combining to achieve high beam quality and scalable power upgrade in fiber lasers.

  • Complete blood cell count(CBC) is a technique that counts leukocytes for each type of blood cell being analyzed. The principle is that laser is incident to ex vivo flowing leukocytes in a microcapillary tube and scattered light occurs by laser and leukocytes. By collecting the scattered light, we can count the types of cells because different cells generate different light-scattering patterns. However, the technique has an intrinsic limitation, scattering pattern is shown in a wide range region in the resulting, which makes it difficult to accurate analyze and use fluorescent dyes. To overcome this limitation, a new design of CBC with a dual laser, which irradiates with orthogonal angles for collecting quad-scattering information was proposed. Before development, the scattering difference depending on wavelength must be investigated to only catch up to the scattered signal by angles. Some studies, which focused on simple particles, have been conducted to theoretically and experimentally investigate different scatterings by wavelength. In this study, we propose an optical system for measuring scattered light and investigate a complex particle. As a result, the green laser made strong scattering signals in both the forward and side direction: 10% and 30%, respectively.

  • The combustion process in the combustion chamber has been investigated by taking pressure, temperature, chemical equilibrium and the shape of flame. To predict temperature of a flame in a combustion chamber is one of very important problems in the field of combustion and the temperature is a important factor of ignition and counteraction to inflammation. In this paper, the flame temperature was determined by the method of the Rayleigh scattering of Ar-Ion Laser (514.5nm). The Rayleigh scattering has been got considerably attention because of its strong cattering intensity. As a result, it is shown that I can measure the shape of flame by schlieren photography and that I can get the flame temperature variation in constant volume combustion chamber by Laser Rayleigh Scattering.

  • We introduce Helicon discharge plasma source and Laser Thomson scattering system recently finished an installation in KRISS. Laser Thomson scattering method is promising for diagnostics in Helicon plasma because a measurement by electrical probe typically used has significant errors due to the gyromotion of electrons induced by high magnetic field. However, we found that LTS is affected by magnetic field so that we applied the normalization method for processing data and the results show a clear Maxwellian distribution at various conditions of magnetic field and RF power at low energy part without distortion.

  • For the improvement of minimum sensing angular velocity of ring laser gyro, the influence of a low-scattering mirror application to laser resonator was investigated. Super polishing technique was employed for the fine mirror substrates of less than 1-${\AA}$-rms roughness. Mirror coating using ion-beam sputtering coating machine produced low-scattering mirror less than 30-ppm scattering. As a result of the mirror application to ring laser, the minimum sensing angular velocity of the gyro was improved down to about 0.1 deg/sec.

  • Diagnostics of plasma density and temperature play an important role for monitoring plasma processing and Laser Thomson scattering is a one of the most accurate diagnostic technique for measuring plasma density and temperature because of none-perturbation to plasma among various diagnostic techniques invented to measure plasma density and temperature. I will briefly review Laser Thomson scattering experiment performed in KRISS and difficulties for measuring the electron velocity distribution such as Gaussian due to low signal-to-noise ratio with showing results that we got until now. This work is an intermediate step in a process that we will get a reliable data which shows physical phenomenon of plasma compared with other diagnostic techniques and results.
