  • Developer roller of laser printer cartridge made with magnetic substance and density of magnetic flux was decreased with the elapse of a year. Owing to this reason, quality of printing was decreased with decreasing of magnetic flux. This study investigated about the elapse of a year of magnetic substance and possible about usage of recycling production.

  • The surface defects of an aluminum tube for an OPC drum have been analyzed using a scanning microscopy(SEM) and an energy dispersive X-ray analyze.(EDX). The SEM/EDX system, which may provide good information on the surface defects and their distributions, provides an optical diameter of an impurity and a chemical composition. These are strongly related on the coated film thickness and quality of an OPC drum, which is a key element of a toner cartridge for a laser printer. The experimental results show that the local deformations, scratch wear, and flaws are produce the non-uniform coating layers, which may be removed by a manufacturing process of an aluminum tube. The major parameters on the coating quality of an OPC drum are the impurities of an aluminum tube such as silicon, oxygen, calcium, carbon, sulphur, chlorine, and others. These impurities may be removed by an ingot molding, extrusion and drawing, quality control, and packing processes with a strict manufacturing technology.

  • In this paper, the optimized design and strength analysis have been presented based on the finite element and Taguchi's experimental methods. The stress, strain and displacement characteristics of OPC drum tubes are affected by rolling contact pressures between an OPC drum tube and a paper, design parameters of an aluminum tube and material properties. The OPC drum tubes with nine different geometrical models are analyzed for design parameters that are related to the outer diameter, the thickness, and the length of an aluminum tube for a toner cartridge. The optimized design parameters for an aluminum tube may be selected as the outer diameter of 28 mm, the thickness of 0.8 mm, and the length of 220 mm. But the currently used aluminum tube for a laser printer is fairly optimized based on the Taguchi's design analysis. The calculated FEM results showed that the affection ratio of the design parameter t, which may control the strength of an aluminum tube, is the most influential parameter among the length and an outer diameter of a tube.

A Development of Primary Charging Roller for OPC Drum (OPC Drum의 저압 대전체 개발)

  • Primary charging roller is rotated with contacting surface of OPC drum and take charge OPC drum. Owing to this reason, primary charging roller is made by elasticity substance with electric conduction. Properties of charging and image is changed by class of coating, method of coating and environment. This study developed coating material and coating method to make print image of good quality.

Design Optimization of Cleaning Blade for Minimizing Stress (응력 최소화를 위한 클리닝 블레이드 최적설계)

  • A cleaning blade is an attachment installed in the toner cartridge of a laser printer for removing the residual toner from an organic photo-conductive drum. There have been many studies on the performance and life of the rubber blade. We focus on optimally designing the blade shape parameters to minimize the maximum stress of the blade while satisfying design constraints on the cleaning performance and part interference. The blade is optimally designed using a design of experiments, meta-models and an optimization algorithm implemented in PIAnO (process integration, automation, and optimization), a commercial PIDO (process integration and design optimization) tool. We integrate the CAE tools necessary for the structural analysis of the cleaning blade, automate the analysis procedure, and optimize the solution using PIAnO. We decreased the maximum stress by 32.6% in comparison with that of the initial design.
