The control of diamond turning is usually achieved through a laser-interferometer feedback of slide position. If the tool post is rigid and the material removal process is relatively static, then such a non-collocated position feedback control scheme may surface. However, as the accuracy requirement gets tighter and desired surface contours become more complex, the need for a direct tool-tip sensing becomes inevitable. The physical constraints of the machining process prohibit any reasonable implementation of a tool-tip motion measurement. It is proposed that the measured force normal to the face of the workpiece can be filtered through an appropriate admittance transfer function to result in the estimated depth of cut. This can be compared to the desired depth of cut to generate the adjustment control action in addition to position feedback control. In this work, the design methodology on the admittance model-based control with a conventional controller is presented. The recursive least-squares algorithm with forgetting factor is proposed to identify the parameters and update the cutting process in real time. The normal cutting forces are measured to identify the cutting dynamics in the real diamond turning process using the precision dynamometer. Based on the parameter estimation of cutting dynamics and the admittance model-based nanodynamic control scheme, simulation results are shown.
The current trend in automotive finishing industry is to use more electrostatic rotating bell (ESRB) need space to their higher transfer efficiency. The flow physics related with the transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by operating parameters. In order to improve their high transfer efficiency without compromising the coating quality, a better understanding is necessary to the ESRB application of metallic basecoat painting for the automobile exterior. This paper presents the results from experimental investigation of the ESRB spray to apply water-borne painting. The visualization, the droplet size, and velocity measurements of the spray flow were conducted under the operating conditions such as liquid flow rate, shaping airflow rate, bell rotational speed, and electrostatic voltage setting. The optical techniques used in here were a microscopic and light sheet visualization by a copper vapor laser, and a phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) system. Water was used as paint surrogate for simplicity. The results show that the bell rotating speed is the most important influencing parameter for atomization processes. Liquid flow rate and shaping airflow rate significantly influence the spray structure. Based on the microscopic visualization, the atomization process occurs in ligament breakup mode, which is one of three atomization modes in rotating atomizer. In the spray transport zone, droplets tend to distribute according to size with the larger drops on the outer periphery of spray. In addition, the results of present study provide detailed information on the paint spray structure and transfer processes.

This paper describes the design process of floor damping material optimization to reduce structure borne noise. This process uses finite element analysis(FEA) along with experimental techniques to complement each other. The objective of this approach was to develop an optimized damping material application layout and thickness at the initial design stage. The first step is to find the sensitivity areas of vehicle body without damping material applied using FEA. In order to determine the high vibration areas of the floor panel, the velocity was measured using a scanning laser vibrometer from 20 Hz to 300 Hz. To excite the floor panel vibration, shaker was placed at the front suspension attachment point. The second step is the optimization process to determine the light weight solution of damping material. The design guideline of damping material was suggested that the lightweight solution was verified using test result of road noise. Design engineer could efficiently decide the design variable of damping material using parameter analysis results in early design stage.

Recently, carbon nanotube has been investigating for field emission display ( (FED) applications due to its high electron emission at relatively low electric field. However, the growing of carbon nanotube generally requires relatively high temperature processing such as arc-discharge (5,000 ~ $20,000^{\circ}C$) and laser evaporation (4,000 ~ $5,000^{\circ}C$) methods. In this presentation, low temperature growing of carbon nanotube by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) using nickel catalyst which is compatible to conventional FED processing temperature will be described. Carbon n notubes with average length of 100 run and diameter of 2 ~ $3\mu$ill were successfully grown on silicon substrate with native oxide layer at $550^{\circ}C$using nickel catalyst. The morphology and microstructure of carbon nanotube was highly depended on the processing temperature and nickel layer thickness. No significant carbon nanotube growing was observed with samples deposited on silicon substrates without native oxide layer. This is believed due to the formation of nickel-silicide and this deteriorated the catalytic role of nickel. The formation of nickel-silicide was confirmed by x-ray analysis. The role of native oxide layer and processing parameter dependence on microstructure of low temperature grown carbon nanotube, characterized by SEM, TEM XRD and R없nan spectroscopy, will be presented.

Experimental and numerical studies for three-dimensional pulsatile flows are conducted to investigate the flow characteristics in the bifurcated tubes. Velocity measurements in experimental study were made by both Pulsed Doppler Ultrasound(PDU) machine and Laser Doppler Anemometer(LDA) system. Glycerin is used for experimental study. Experimental results are used to verify the results of the numerical simulation. Flow characteristics of Newtonian fluid and blood in the bifurcated tubes under the steady and pulsatlie flows are numerically investigated. Finite volume method is employed for three-dimensional numerical simulations. Blood is considered as a non-Newtonian fluid and the constitutive equation of blood is used for the numerical analysis. Numerical analyses are focused on the flow patterns for various branch angles ranging from 30.deg. to 90.deg. and diameter ratios such as 1.0, 0.8, and 0.6. Pulsatile flow characteristics of blood are compared with those of Newtonian fluid. Parameter effects on axial velocity, pressure and wall shear stress distribution along the bifurcated tubes are discussed in terms of the branch angle, diameter ratio, and Reynolds number.

This paper summarizes the results of an investigation into the environmental factors that have an indirect impact on parts quality, as well as those process variables and modeling information that have a direct impact. The effects of strength, surface hardness, roughness, and accuracy of shape, that is, qualities that users generally need to know, were evaluated with laminating direction experimentally. The 3D printing methods used in this experiment were fused deposition modeling (FDM), stereolithography apparatus (SLA), selective laser sintering (SLS), 3D printing (3DP) and laminated object manufacturing (LOM). The goal was to achieve a high standard of quality control and product quality by optimizing the fabrication process.
There is a clear need for characterizing optical components with the growing role played by optical devices in measurement, communication, and photonics. A basic and useful measuring parameter to meet this need, especially for imaging systems, is the Modulation Transfer Function, or MTF. Over the past few decades new instrument, including the laser interferometer, the CCD camera, and the computer have revolutionized the measurement and calculation of the MTF. This has made what was tedious and involved into virtually an instantaneous measurement. We proposed a Simpson approxiamtion method to create MTF graph and illustrated real example to verify its method in this paper. This method is very useful while it is very useful because its error is very minor and small although its approximation.
We have fabricated good quality superconducting $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrate with $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. We have chosen $CeO_2$ as a buffer layer which has cubic structure of $5.41{\AA}$ lattice parameter and only 0.2% of lattice mismatch with YBCO. $CeO_2$ layer may be helpful for power transmission due to its conducting property. In order to enhance the crystallization of YBCO films on metallic substrates. we deposited $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers at various temperatures. The YBCO superconducting tape fabricated with $BaTiO_3$ and $CeO_2$ buffer layers shows 85K of transition temperature and about $8.4{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ of critical current density at 77K.

This paper presents an algorithm that automatically extracts buildings among many different features on the earth surface by fusing LIDAR data with panchromatic aerial images. The proposed algorithm consists of three stages such as point level process, polygon level process, parameter space level process. At the first stage, we eliminate gross errors and apply a local maxima filter to detect building candidate points from the raw laser scanning data. After then, a grouping procedure is performed for segmenting raw LIDAR data and the segmented LIDAR data is polygonized by the encasing polygon algorithm developed in the research. At the second stage, we eliminate non-building polygons using several constraints such as area and circularity. At the last stage, all the polygons generated at the second stage are projected onto the aerial stereo images through collinearity condition equations. Finally, we fuse the projected encasing polygons with edges detected by image processing for refining the building segments. The experimental results showed that the RMSEs of building corners in X, Y and Z were ${\pm}$8.1cm, ${\pm}$24.7cm, ${\pm}$35.9cm, respectively.
Experimental study was conducted to characterize the flow effect of particle migration in a microchannel which can be used to deliver small amount of liquids, drugs, biological agents and particles in microfluidic devices. Fluorescent particles of $1\{mu}m$ diameter were used to obtain velocity profiles of the fluid in which large particles of $10\{mu}m$ diameter were suspended at different volume fraction of 0.6 and $0.8\%$. Measurements were obtained by using micro-PIV system which contains a Nd:YAG laser with a light of 532-nm wavelength, an inverted epi-fluorescent microscope and a cooled CCD camera to record particle images. The volume fraction of $\phi$ and the particle Reynolds number $Re_p$Rep were used as a parameter to assess the influence of the velocity profile of the suspensions. To expect the slip velocity between the particle and fluids, experiments were carried out at low volume fraction. It was shown that the velocity profile was not influenced by Rep but influenced by the volume fraction, which is in similar trend with the previous study.
