A study on the implementation of optical absorption spectrum analyzer for detecting gases in OF power cable (OF 케이블 Gas 검출을 위한 광흡수 스펙트럼 분석장치 구현에 관한 연구)

  • Presently, it is now developing the optical remote gas sensor system which can measure combustible gases such as $CH_4$ and $C_2H_2$ generating by partial discharges inside the cable and connection parts to detect thermal deterioration of Oil-Filled (OF) power cable at the appropriate time. It is the most important parameter to select central wavelength of laser diode (LD) by analyzing the absorption bend of measuring gases in the infrared region. In this research, we proposed the optical spectrum analyzer to absorption band of $CH_4$ and $C_2H_2$ for the preliminary research of optical fiber gas detecting system.

  • 전계 흡수 광 변조기는 우수한 소광비와 낮은 전력 소모로 넓은 대역폭을 확보할 수 있으며 LD와의 단일 집적인 EML(electro-absorption modulator integrated laser diode)의 제작도 용이하므로 Microwave-Photonics 시스템에 매우 적합한 소자로써 근래에 활발한 연구가 진행되어지고 있다. 전계 흡수 광 변조기의 대역폭을 최대한 확보하기 위해서는 진행하는 마이크로파의 위상속도와 광파의 그룹 속도가 정합 되어야 하며 소자의 임피던스가 50Ω에 정합 되어야 한다. (중략)

  • In this paper, we have measured and analyzed the third-order intermodulation distortion(IMD3) mostly appeared in a laser diode(LD) of an optical link for CDMA signals to characterize the links with an inexpensive way. We analyzed adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) of CDMA signals as a function of FA, which negatively affects ACPR.

  • 본 연구는 파장 분할 다중화(WDM: Wavelength Division Multiplexing) 방식 전송 시스템 (Transmission System)에 사용되는 어븀 첨가 광섬유 증폭기(EDFA: Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier)의 이득 제어(Cain Control) 방법에 관한 것으로 어븀 첨가 광섬유에서 상호 이득 포화 (Cross Cain Saturation) 현상, 이득 비동질(Cain In-homogeneity) 특성, 그리고 어븀 이온의 밀도. 반전(Population Inversion)의 변화에 의해 출력되는 다 파장 광 신호들의 광세기가 각기 다르게 출력되는 현상을 고출력을 내도록 구성된 어븀 첨가 광섬유 증폭기와 고속 제어기를 구성하여 위 현상들을 억제하며 이득을 제어하기 위한 레이저 다이오드(Laser Diode : LD)의 제어전압 조사하고, 얻어 진 결과들을 토대로 이득 제어에 적합한 방법을 제시하고 제어기를 설계한다.

Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network Based FTTH Field Trial Test

  • In this paper, we have presented the results of Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) based fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) field trial test which was held in the city of Gwangju. We have implemented an injection locked Fabry-Perot Laser Diode (FP-LD) based WDM-PON system and reliably delivered Internet Protocol TV (IP-TV), networked Personal Video Recorder (N-PVR), High-Definition Video on Demand (HD-VoD), Education on Demand (EoD) and Internet service as FTTH service through the system during the field trial test. We have also verified that the WDM-PON system worked well to provide quality of service (QoS) guaranteed 100Mbps bandwidth per subscriber. Furthermore, we have presented network designing issues in Outside Plant (OSP) and Customer Premises Network (CPN) that should be overcome to efficiently deploy FTTH service. Finally, based on the field trial test results, we proposed FTTH service deployment strategies.

  • We present simulation results for a method designed to extract key parameter values of DFB-type LDs based on ASE spectrum measurements. Comparisons were made between the given (actual) and the extracted (estimated) parameters, as well as the associated spectra, fur a variety of DFB-type LDs, and the two sets of results were found to be in excellent agreement.

Novel graphene-based optical MEMS accelerometer dependent on intensity modulation

  • This paper proposes a novel graphene-based optical microelectromechanical systems MEMS accelerometer that is dependent on the intensity modulation and optical properties of graphene. The designed sensing system includes a multilayer graphene finger, a laser diode (LD) light source, a photodiode, and integrated optical waveguides. The proposed accelerometer provides several advantages, such as negligible cross-axis sensitivity, appropriate linearity behavior in the operation range, a relatively broad measurement range, and a significantly wider bandwidth when compared with other important contributions in the literature. Furthermore, the functional characteristics of the proposed device are designed analytically, and are then confirmed using numerical methods. Based on the simulation results, the functional characteristics are as follows: a mechanical sensitivity of 1,019 nm/g, an optical sensitivity of 145.7 %/g, a resonance frequency of 15,553 Hz, a bandwidth of 7 kHz, and a measurement range of ${\pm}10g$. Owing to the obtained functional characteristics, the proposed device is suitable for several applications in which high sensitivity and wide bandwidth are required simultaneously.

  • Fiber optic link systems based on SCM scheme are widely used as efficient and economic RF signal links between base station and a central station in mobile communication networks. However, its performance can be seriously limited depending on the operational conditions of not only the optical transmission system but also the wireless link in various environments. In this paper, we propose an analytic model for performance analyses of the SCM fiber optic link for CDMA RF signal transmission in various link environments. We present optimal operational conditions taking account of the nonlinear effects of the optical transmission system, and the multiple access interference produced at the wireless link. It has been shown through the BER analyses in this paper that the selection of optical modulation index of the SCM fiber optic links can be found optimally to minimize the fiber optic link noises and intermodulation distortion due to LD.

  • We demonstrate bidirectional long-reach 35-channel dense wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network(DWDM-PON) based on wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser diodes (F-P LDs). The mode control of F-P LD enhances output power at decreased the required injection power. We show packet-loss-free transmission in all 70 channels at 125 Mb/s per channel line rate through 70 km of single mode fiber without optical amplifier The DWDM-PON can consolidate a metro network into an access network by bypassing the central offices within its reach. The proposed DWDM-PON can accommodate about 80 subscribers with an EDFA-based broadband light source. Further expansion up to 100 subscribers is possible with a semiconductor-based BLS.

  • We fabricated optical sensor system that take a measurement particles using a line-CCD in ocean. To measure particles, we used 680nm laser diode which is appropriate. we tested to operate optical system in water tank and ocean. It has performance that detected signal of sensors transfer microprocessor, FPGA as long as move up and down it's motion. The system algorithm also analysis output -pressure, temperature, particle numbers in depth.-For experiment, our particle sensor system has high accuracy counter. therefore, we proposed that a line-CCD is available on optical sensor system in ocean.
