  • This paper presents a new autonomous kinematic calibration technique by using a laser-vision sensor called "Perceptron TriCam Contour". Because the sensor measures by capturing the image of a projected laser line on the surface of the object, we set up a long, straight line of a very fine string inside the robot workspace, and then allow the sensor mounted on a robot to measure the point intersection of the line of string and the projected laser line. The point data collected by changing robot configuration and sensor measuring are constrained to on a single straght line such that the closed-loop calibration method can be applied. The obtained calibration method is simple and accurate and also suitable for on-site calibration in an industrial environment. The method is implemented using Hyundai VORG-35 for its effectiveness.

  • In this paper, we carried out calibration of laser scanning MMS(Mobile Mapping System) using Lynx Mobile Mapper, a new MMS developed at Optech Incorporated. Laser scanning MMS could be defined as an integration of several subsystems. Subsystems are composed of laser scanner, gps receiver and antenna, INS(Inertial Navigation System), DMI(Distance Measurement Instrument). These are obtained 3D spatial information by direct-georeferencing technology. To obtain 3D spatial information, calibration of laser scanning MMS is required prior to operation system, it is similar to airborme lidar system. 145 checkpoints were used to accuracy estimation. The accuracy results are about 5cm(RMSE) for calibration in all directions(east, north, ellipsoidal height).

  • For measuring the thermal diffusivity by laser flash method, raw data have to be calibrated using temperature data. We have developed in-process calibration method and polynomial calibration in which thermal diffusivity can be calibrated during measuring, This method is different from existing temperature pre-process calibration method and exponential calibration having various source of error. Using this new calibration method, measurement accuracy was improved about 1∼2% compare to the value by the existing method. We also studied more accurate fitting curve as in Figure 4 was shown the result of measuring output characteristics of IR radiometer with temperature. As illustrated in data, in-process calibration method and polynomial calibration equation is proper than pre-process calibration method and exponential calibration.

  • IIoT stands for Industrial Internet of Things used in manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation in networked smart factories. Recently, IIoT's environment requires an automated control system through intelligent cognition to improve efficiency. In particular, IIoT can be applied to automatic calibration of production equipment for improved management in industrial environments. Such automation systems require a wireless network for transmitting industrial data. Self-calibration systems in laser transmission paths using wireless networks can save resources and improve production quality by real-time monitoring and remote control of laser transmission path. In this paper, we propose a wireless networked system for self-calibration of laser equipment that requires a laser transmission path, and we show the results of the prototype evaluation. The self-calibration system of laser equipment measures the coordinates of the laser points with sensors and sends them to the host using the proposed application protocol. We propose a wireless network service for the wired motor controller to align the laser coordinates. Using this wireless network, the host controls the motor by sending a control command of the motor controller in an HTTP message based on the received coordinate values. Finally, we build a prototype system of the proposed design to verify the detection performance and analyze the network performance.

  • The calibration for systematic error in LiDAR is crucial for the accuracy of airborne laser scanning. The main error is the misalignment of platforms between INS(Inertial Navigation System) and Laser scanner For planimetrical calibration of LiDAR, the building is good feature which has great changes in height and continuous flat area in the top. The planimetry error(pitch, roll) is corrected by adjustment of height which is calculated from comparing ground control points(GCP) of building to laser scanning data. We can know scale correction of laser range by the comparison of LiDAR data and GCP is arranged at the end of scan angle where maximize the height error. The area for scale calibration have to be large flat and have almost same elevation. At 1000m for average flying height, The Accuracy of laser scanning data using LiDAR is within 110cm in height and ${\pm}$50cm in planmetry so we can use laser scanning data for generating 3D terrain surface, expecically digital surface model(DSM) which is difficult to measure by aerial photogrammetry in forest, coast, urban area of high buildings

  • A number of calibration methods are described in ISO 16063 (revision of ISO 5347) and they may be used for special purposes. However, the use of a laser interferometer is recommended for primary calibration. This paper introduces the primary vibration calibration by measuring displacement amplitude and frequency using laser interferometry.

  • Structured light vision system has been widely used in 3D surface profiling. Usually, it is composed of a camera and a laser which projects a line on the target. Calibration is necessary to acquire 3D information using structured light stripe vision system. Conventional calibration algorithms have found the pose of the camera and the equation of the stripe plane of the laser under the same coordinate system of the camera. Therefore, the 3D reconstruction is only possible under the camera frame. In most cases, this is sufficient to fulfill given tasks. However, they require multiple images which are acquired under different poses for calibration. In this paper, we propose a calibration algorithm that could work by using just one shot. Also, proposed algorithm could give 3D reconstruction under both the camera and laser frame. This would be done by using newly designed calibration structure which has multiple vertical planes on the ground plane. The ability to have 3D reconstruction under both the camera and laser frame would give more flexibility for its applications. Also, proposed algorithm gives an improvement in the accuracy of 3D reconstruction.

  • A method for calibrating a laser profiling system for seafloor micro-topography measurements is described. The system consists of a digital camera and an arrangement of six red lasers that are mounted as a unit on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The lasers project as parallel planes onto the seafloor, creating profiles of the local topography that are interpreted from the digital camera image. The goal of the calibration was to determine the plane equations for the six lasers relative to the camera. This was accomplished in two stages. First, distortions in the digital image were corrected using an interpolation method based on a virtual pinhole camera model. Then, the laser planes were determined according to their intersections with a calibration target. The position and orientation of the target were obtained by a registration process. The selection of the target shape and size was found to be critical to a successful calibration at sea, due to the limitations in the manoeuvrability of the ROV.

  • 3 Dimensional measurement system using camera and laser slit-ray is studied. Precise calibration technique in this system is suggested. Calibration is accomplished with calibration die, calibration block and robot. For obtaining calibration parameters, the equations are solved using least square error method from a great many calibration points to reduce measuring error. Continuous measurement is possible for the object which is larger than one frame of camera. The efficiency and usability are proved by applying to the tire profile measuring system which measures tire profile using robot and this system.

  • In this paper, we describe the modeling for the 3D robot laser scanning system consisting of a laser stripe projector, camera, and 5-DOF robot and propose its calibration method. Nonlinear radial distortion in the camera model is considered for improving the calibration accuracy. The 3D range data is calculated using the optical triangulation principle which uses the geometrical relationship between the camera and the laser stripe plane. For optimal estimation of the system model parameters, real-coded genetic algorithm is applied in the calibration process. Experimental results show that the constructed system is able to measure the 3D position within about 1mm error. The proposed scheme could be applied to the kinematically dissimilar robot system without losing the generality and has a potential for recognition for the unknown environment.
