The present investigation was carried out to study the possible cause for reciprocal difference in silkworm hybrids. By utilising the polyvoltine race Pure Mysore (PM) and newly evolved breeds (CSR2, CSR5, CSR16 and CSR17), the direct and reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine and also bivoltine hybrids were studied. The hybrids of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine (direct) are superior to their reciprocal crosses in respect of cocoon yield, cocoon weight and filament length. The reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine are superior to their direct crosses in respect of fecundity and short larval duration. No significant differences were observed in the characters like cocoon shell ratio, raw silk percentage, denier, reelability and neatness in both polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine direct crosses and their reciprocals. The expression of cocoon characters as a function of sex revealed that direct crosses (polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine) showed higher cocoon weight, pupal weight, shell weight and longer filament length in females than the reciprocal crosses (bivoltine ${\times}$ polyvoltine), where as these characters in males were almost the same in both direct and reciprocal crosses, indicating that the sex-linked genetic factor played a more important role. it was clear that difference in cocoon yield observed in reciprocal crosses of polyvoltine ${\times}$ bivoltine was due to the low cocoon and shell weight in females which was turn due to presence of early maturity genes (Lme) linked with sex-chromosome (X) which effect on larvae period of the silkworm. In bivoltine hybrids, i.e., both direct and their reciprocals crosses, all the characters viz., hatching percentage, larval duration, survival, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell ratio, raw silk percentage, filament length, denier, reelability and neatness did not show any significant difference (except number of eggs laid by moth) which could account for presence of same maturity genes (Lm) in both direct and reciprocal crosses. it was clear that reciprocal differences occur when the hybrids are prepared from the parental strains with different voltinism.
The objective of this research was to characterize of the silkworm that might be recognized to the Korean native strains. The eleven strains of Korean race used in this study, which is cultured in Korea and Japan seri-cultural research organs. Most of Korean varieties were three molting and univoltine, comparatively longer larval duration than the trimolter general. The egg characters of varieties showed short-eliptic shape and dark brown egg color except for a few varieties which shows greenish dark brown. Also, most of varieties were showed the plain(p) and moricaud( $p_{M}$) in larval markings. Moric marking of the varieties also consist of innumerable dark grayish brown lines and dots, though somewhat darker and lighter than that of the wild silkworm, Bombyx mandarina. Cocoon characters variations of varieties were seen in the size, color and shape. 8 varieties were colored cocoon, i.e., yellow, greenish yellow and light green etc., the others were white cocon. The shape of cocons were consisted of constricted shallowly in the middle and attenuated at one or both ends of cocoon, i.e., spindle. The results of this study is sufficient evidence that Korean strains were shown as the one of regional origin strain of domesticated silkworm such as the Chinese and Japanese etc.c.
Larvae of pandalid shrimp Pandalopsis japonica are benthic, and may prefer bottom to planktonic food items. Three diets, enriched Artemia meta-nauplii (AR), clam meat (CM), and crumbled shrimp (CD), were evaluated as food for early larvae in terms of biometric growth R:D ratios. Larvae fed AR and CM had significantly greater total length and dry weight than did larvae fed CD (P<0.05). Survival was significantly greater in larvae fed CM than in those fed AR and CD (P<0.05). R:D ratios were also significantly higher in larvae fed AR and CM than in those fed CD (P<0.05). Planktonic Artemia meta-nauplii containing high levels of fatty acids and amino acids were not suitable for either normal somatic growth or survival at early benthic larval stages. Furthermore, it is necessary to determine the optimal feeding duration to increase digestibility of AD. Thus, we propose that clam meat is the best diet for pandalid shrimp larvae.
This study was carried out to define the effects of anti-juvenile hormone analogue(AJH) treatment at different silkworm larval stages on some silk filament properties. It was revealed that the treatments at the 1st and 2nd days of the 3rd instar as well as the 1st day of the 4th instar resulted to trimolters induction without lethal effect. The trimolters induced by treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the shortest larval duration and the lowest single cocoon weight, cocoon shell ratio, cocoon size, single filament length and denier of filament compared with those of the control, while the trimolters induced by the 3rd-instar treatment showed intermediate values. All treatments showed no significant differences from the aspect fo degumming ratio, elongation rate and crystallinity index of fibroin. However the silk filament obtained from the treatment at the 1st day of the 4th instar showed the highest tenacity which was revealed to be related to the better uniformity of filament by the means of microscopic photographing. FT-IR spectroscopy of the silk fibroin showed a sharp and strong peak at the position of 794.72 cm-1 in all AJH-treated samples regardless of trimolters induction, which was absent in control.

Most studies of the black soldier fly, Hermitia illucens, widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia and America focused on the use of larvae for recycling various organic materials and feed for fish and livestock. To recognize the instars of the soldier fly's larvae, we examined the number of exuviae originated from each larva from 1st instar to pupa. The weight and the head capsule width of the black soldier fly larvae also confirmed that the black soldier fly was passed through 6th instars. In addition, we found that the black soldier fly larvae had a well developed mandibular-maxillary complex, similar to those reported from the larvae of scavengers including Odontomyia cincta, Neopachygaster maculicornis, Ptecticus brunettii and Stratiomys ruficornis.

Silkworm larval mortality specifically during spinning stage leading to non-spinning with specific morphological symptoms was frequently complained by sericulturists in Karnataka, India during 2015. Survey was conducted and information collected through questionnaire from the identified farmers who faced the problem of non-spinning in both traditional and non-traditional areas of Karnataka. Survey results indicate that the problem is specific to the silkworm crop of those farmers' who shifted from other crops of agriculture/ horticulture/olericulture/ floriculture to Sericulture. Silkworm rearing performance of the batches fed with these leaves confirmed that the pesticide sprayed to the crops previous to mulberry, remain in the soil and when mulberry plantation is taken up in these gardens, the pesticide is absorbed by the roots of mulberry plants and transported to the leaves. Silkworms that feed on these mulberry leaves, grow and ripen normally but during spinning stage, larvae die with external symptoms like regurgitation, body shrinkage, rectal protrusion later become hook shaped leading to non-spinning or partial metamorphosis into pupa and death or spin flimsy cocoons. Larval mortality ranged from a minimum of twenty five percent to a maximum of hundred percent. The problem was noticed from the first harvest of leaves and lasted for a maximum period of 36 months. Cocoon crop loss depends on the concentration, duration and type of pesticides used previously for other crops.
