유한요소 LES법에 의한 축류 회전차 팁 틈새의 유동해석 (Flow Analysis in the Tip Clearance of Axial Flow Rotor Using Finite-Element Large-Eddy Simulation Method)

  • Flow characteristics in linear axial cascade have been studied using large eddy simulation(LES) based on finite element method(FEM) to investigate details of the leakage flow in the tip clearance of axial flow rotor. STAR-CD(FVM) and PAT-Flow(FEM) have been adopted to solve the Navier-Stokes equations for the simulation of the unsteady turbulent flow. Numerical results from the present study have been compared with the existing experimental results to investigate a tip clearance effect on velocity profile and static pressure distribution on blade surface at various spanwise positions. Both simulation results agree well with the experimental data. However, it has been shown that the results of finite-element large-eddy simulation agree better with experimental data than $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model based on finite volume method regarding the tip vortex geometry and static pressure distribution at the center of the tip vortex core. As a result of this study, it is shown that finite-element large-eddy simulation method can predict more exactly on the tip leakage vortex flow and behind flow field.

  • Turbulent flow in a channel with a square rib periodically mounted on one wall is studied by large-eddy simulation(LES). An efficient 3D Navier-Stokes solver has been written for this geometry using a fractional step method and a multi-grid technique. The Reynolds number considered is 82, 000 based on the mean velocity above the obstacle height. Near-wall turbulence is approximated by a wall-layer model based on the turbulence intensity at the grid point nearest a solid wall. The results show a good qualitative agreement with experiments currently available for a single rib, indicating that LES can be a useful tool in simulating complex turbulent flows.

  • A probability density function (PDF) approach to account for turbulence-chemistry interaction in the context of large eddy simulation (LES) based simulation of scramjets is developed. To solve the high-dimensional joint-composition PDF transport equation robustly, the semi-discrete quadrature method of moments (SeQMOM) is recently proposed [1]. The SeQMOM approach addresses key numerical issues in LES related to the inaccuracies in computing filter-scale gradients, enabling an efficient and numerically consistent solution of the PDF transport equation. The computational tool is used to simulate a cavity-stabilized Mach 2.2 supersonic combustor.

  • This study concerns a large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flow around a bluff body inside a sudden expansion cylindrical chamber, a configuration which resembles a premixed gas turbine combustor The simulation code is constructed by using the general coordinate system based on the physical contravariant velocity components. The Smagorinsky model is employed and the calculated Reynolds number is 5,000 based on the bulk velocity and the diameter of the inlet pipe. The combined grid technique and cylindrical grid are tested in the numerical simulation with complex geometry. The predicted turbulent statistics are evaluated by comparing with LDV measurement data. The numerical flow visualizations depict the behavior of turbulent mixing process behind the flame holder.

  • 3차원 Large Eddy Simulation(LES)와 Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD) 기법을 이용하여 고체로켓의 인히비터에서 발생하는 연소실내 압력 진동 특성을 분석하였다. 인히비터 후방에서 발생한 와류는 Flow-acoustic coupling에 의해 주기적으로 반복하여 생성, 소멸이 이루어지는 것을 확인하였고, 이 와류가 내삽 노즐 입구 도출부에 충돌하면서 유동이 불균질하게 분해되고, 후방 돔으로 유입된 유동에 의한 압력 진동은 연소실 압력 진동 가진의 원인이 된다. 또한 인히비터에서 발생하는 와흘림(vortex shedding) 주기는 연소실내 와류 발생 주기와 일치하며, 실험에서 측정된 압력 진동 주파수와 비교 분석하였다.

  • This paper investigates LES of turbulent combustion flow based on 2-scalar flamelet approach, where a G-equation and a conserved scalar equation simulate a propagation of premixed flame and a diffusion combustion process, respectively. The turbulent SGS modeling on these flamelet combustion approach is also researched. These LES models are applied to an industrial flows in a full scale gasturbine combustor with premixed and non-premixed flames. The numerical results predict the characteristics of experiment temperature profiles. Unsteady features of complex flames in combustor are also visualized.

  • In the present article, we investigate numerically turbulent flow of air through compound rectangular channels. Large eddy simulation(LES) is employed for unsteady turbulence modeling. LES gives better predictions for the axial mean velocity distribution than those of other turbulent models. Strong large-scale quasi-periodic flow oscillations are observed in most of the geometries investigated. Such large-scale flow oscillations in compound rectangular channels are similar to the quasi-periodic flow pulsation through the gaps between fuel rod bundle in nuclear reactor. It exists in any longitudinal connecting gap between two flow channels. The frequency of this flow oscillation is determined by the geometry of the gap. The large scale cross motions through the rectangular compound channels induce significant heat transfer enhancement of the compound channel flow.

  • Three-dimensional and unsteady flow analysis is a practical target of high performance computation. As recently advances of computers, a numerical prediction by the large eddy simulation (LES) are introduced and evaluated for various engineering problems. Its advanced methods for the complex turbulent flows are discussed by several examples applied for aerodynamic designs, analysis of fluid flow mechanisms and their interaction to complex phenomena. These results of time-dependent and three-dimensional phenomena are visualized by interactive graphics and animations.

  • 희박 예혼합 스월 연소기의 난류 연소와 화학반응간의 간섭 메커니즘을 파악하기 위하여 Large Eddy Simulation(LES)을 수행하였다. 난류 화염의 유동 특성을 자세히 살펴보기 위하여 비정상 난류 연소 수치해석 기법을 적용하여, 약간의 연료 덩어리가 일차연소영역(Primary combustion zone)에서 빠져나와 선회 방향으로 흘러 국부적 핫스팟(hot spot)을 발생시키며, 이는 large vortical structure를 만들어 내는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었다. 압력변동과 비정상 열 방출 사이의 관계는 공간 및 시간적 Rayleigh parameter에 의해 고찰되었다.

  • Cavity is inevitably included in automobile vehicle configuration. The complex unsteady flow and sound waves generated by the cavity are very important issues because of the involved fluid dynamics and the practical importance in the field of aerodynamics. The LES method used is a conventional one with Smagorinsky eddy-viscosity model and the computational grid is small enough to be handled by workstation-level computers. LES can successfully simulate of cavity noise analysis.
