In animating an articulated entity with motion capture data, especially when the reconstruction is based on forward kinematics, there could be large discrepancies at the end effector. The small errors in joint angles tend to be amplified as the forward kinematics positioning progresses toward the end effector. In this paper, we present an algorithm that enhances the motion capture data to reduce positional errors at the end effector. The process is optimized so that the characteristics of the original joint angle data is preserved in the resulting motion. The frames at which the end-effector position needs to be accurate are designated as“keyframes”(e.g. starting and ending frames). In the algorithm, corrections by inverse kinematics are performed at sparse keyframes and they are interpolated with a cubic spline which produces a curve best approximating the measured joint angles. The experiment proves that our algorithm is a valuable tool to improve measured motion especially when end-effector trajectory contains a special goal.
This paper reports results of the structural response of empty steel tanks under vertical ground motions. The tanks are modeled using a finite element discretization using shell elements, and the vertical motion is applied and analyzed using nonlinear dynamics. Several excitation frequencies are considered, with emphasis on those that may lead to resonance of the roof. The computational results illustrate that as the base motion frequency is tuned with the frequency of the first roof-mode of the tank, the system displays large-amplitude displacements. For frequencies away from such mode, small amplitude displacements are obtained. The effect of the height of the cylinder on the dynamic response of the tank to vertical ground motion has also been investigated. The vertical acceleration of the ground motion that induces significant changes in the stiffness of the tank was found to be almost constant regardless of the height of the cylinder.
Information about camera operating such as zoom, focus, pan, tilt and tracking is useful not only for efficient video coding, but also for content-based video representation. A camera operating parameter measurement system designed specifically for these applications is therefore developed. This system, implemented in real time and synchronized with the video signal, measures the precise camera operating parameters. We calibrated the camera lens using a camera model that accounts for redial lens distortion. The system is then applied to infer image motion from pan and tilt operating parameters. The experimental results show that the inferred motion coincides with the actual motion very well, with an error of less than 0.5 pixel even for large motion up to 80 pixels.

Today, 3D softwares have become an essential tool in all areas of Video, including Movies, Animations, CFs, Motion Graphics and Games. One of the most commonly used fields is the 3D character video part. However, these 3D character animations and motion graphics softwares are difficult to learn and too much to learn, making it difficult to learn them all in a university education with a limited time of four years. In this paper, many Inverse kinematics tools, which are essential in the 3D character animations and motion graphics field, compare and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each tool, focusing on Bone, Character Studio, and Character Animation Toolkit, which are most commonly used in work fields. And use Delphi techniques for 3D experts to secure objectivity. Therefore, for universities that require large amounts of teaching in a limited time, I propose an analysis of which of the above three Inverse Kinetics tools is advantageous for students to select and focus on for efficient education.
The large data volume of light field (LF) image has motivated much research on how to compress the data volume more efficiently. One of the approaches is to compress LF images after representing them in the form of pseudo video sequence. In this way, the pseudo temporal redundancy between views can be exploited by motion estimation and compensation. Based on our observation that images obtained by LF cameras have small range of disparity values between adjacent views, we propose to limit the motion search range to reduce the time complexity of motion estimation. Our experimental results show that a smaller motion search range reduces the encoding time while not affecting the bitrate of H.266/VVC much.
This research develops an experimental method to measure the motion of a FDB spindle system with a 3.5' disk by using three capacitance probes fixed on the xyz-micrometers, and it shows that a FDB spindle system has the whirling, flying and tilting motion. It also shows that the whirling, flying and tilting motion converge very quickly to the steady state at the same time when the rotor reaches the steady-state speed. However, they are quite large even at the steady state when they are compared with the 10nm flying height of a magnetic head. For the FDB spindle system used in this experiment, the whirl radius and the peak-to-peak variation of flying height and tilting angle at the steady-state speed of 7,200rpm are 0.675m, 30nm and $5.758\times10^{-3^{\circ}}$, respectively, so that the radial motion of the FDB spindle system exceeds a track pitch of a 3.5' HDD with 90,000 TPI.
Near-fault ground motion with directivity or fling effects is significantly influenced by the rupture mechanism and substantially different from ordinary records. This class of ground motion has large amplitude and long period, exhibits unusual response spectra shapes, possesses high PGV/PGA and PGD/PGA ratios and is best characterized in the velocity and the displacement time-histories. Such ground motion is also characterized by its energy being contained in a single or very few pulses, thus capable of causing severe damage to the structures. This paper investigates the characteristics of near-fault pulse-like ground motions and their implications on the structural responses using new proposed measures, such as, the effective frequency range, the energy rate (in time and frequency domains) and the damage indices. The paper develops also simple mathematical expressions for modeling this class of ground motion and the associated structural responses, thus eliminating numerical integration of the equations of motion. An optimization technique is also developed by using energy concepts and damage indices for modeling this class of ground motion for inelastic structures at sites having limited earthquake data.
This research was conducted to biomechanically analyze Tippelt motion in parallel bars, and establish technical understanding. To achieve that goal, the performances of the Tippelt acts carried out by five world top-class national gymnasts in the parallel bars 3-dimensional cinematographic analysis and EMG analysis were conducted and following conclusion were obtained. The Tippelt motions of excellent national gymnasts perform tap motion through the down swing of a large circular movements, and perform kick-out motion rapidly extending shoulder joint angle and hip joint angle with the trunk in a position close to perpendicular position at the vertical downwardness of the grasping the bars. At this time, if handstand starting the movement is too delayed or rapidly down swung, it was shown that from the initial falling, unnecessary muscular power was wasted in trapezius, anterior deltoid, erector spinae, latissimus dorsi, upper rectus abdominis, lower rectus abdominis. The muscular parts in tap motion generating muscle action potential were pectoralis major, rectus femoris, upper rectus abdominis, lower rectus abdominis, and those in kick-out motion were upper rectus abdominis, lower rectus abdominis, trapezius and anterior deltoid.
The interaction between a sloshing liquid damper (SLD) tank and a rectangular pontoon was investigated under the assumption of the linear potential theory. The eigenfunction expansion method was used not only for the sloshing problem in the SLD tank but also for analyzing the motion responses of a rectangular pontoon in waves. If the frictional damping due to the viscosity of the SLD tank was ignored, the effect of the SLD appeared to be an added mass in the coupled equation of motion. The installation of the SLD tank had a greater effect on the roll motion response than the sway and heave motion of the pontoon. One resonance peak for rolling motion showed up in the case of a frozen liquid in the SLD tank. However, if liquid motion in the SLD tank was allowed, two peaks appeared around the first natural frequency of the fluid in the SLD tank. In particular, the peak value located in the low-frequency region had a relatively large value, and the peak frequency located in the high-frequency region moved into the high-frequency region as the depth of the liquid in the tank increased.
Generally, stabilization system is surely needed for the compensation of the ship motion. In this paper, the study investigated stabilizer design for the large driving system. We make a performance analysis for the stabilization scheme through the computer simulation.
