The objective of this study was to develop an artificial neural network (ANN) model for the acoustic identification of commercially important fish species in Korea. A broadband echo acquisition and processing system operating over the frequency range of 85-225 kHz was used to collect and process species-specific, time-frequency feature images from six fish species: black rockfish Sebastes schlegeli, black scraper Thamnaconus modesutus [K], chub mackerel Scomber japonicus, goldeye rockfish Sebastes thompsoni, konoshiro gizzard shad Konosirus punctatus and large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea. An ANN classifier was developed to identify fish species acoustically on the basis of only 100 dimension time-frequency features extracted by the principal components analysis (PCA). The overall mean identification rate for the six fish species was 88.5%, with individual identification rates of 76.6% for black rockfish, 82.8% for black scraper, 93.8% for chub mackerel, 90.6% for goldeye rockfish, 96.9% for konoshiro gizzard shad and 90.6% for large yellow croaker, respectively. These results demonstrate that individual live fish in well-controlled environments can be identified accurately by the proposed ANN model.
This paper is concerned with type of imperfections present within the anodic oxide films on AA2024 and surface hardness of the anodic film measured after ink-impregnation. The anodic oxide films were formed for 25 min at 40 mA/㎠ and 15±0.5℃ and 300 rpm of magnet stirring rate in 20% sulfuric acid solution. The ink-impregnation allows clear observations of not only the imperfections within the anodic oxide films but also an indentation mark on the oxide film surface made by a pyramidal-diamond penetrator for the hardness measurement. There were observed four different regions in the anodic oxide films on AA2024 and the surface hardness of the anodic oxide films appeared to be crucially dependent on the type of defects, showing 60~100 Hv on the oxide surface region I with large size black defect, 100~140 Hv on the oxide surface region II with large size grey defect, 140~170 Hv on the oxide surface region III with mall size black and/or grey defects and 170~190 Hv on the oxide surface region IV without defects. The pyramidal indentation marks were observed to be distorted in the regions with a large size black and grey defects, while no distortion of the indentation mark was observed in the regions with small size defects and without visible defects.
Effects of carbon black species and concentration on the mechanical and electrical properties of alumina trihydrate filled EPDM compounds were investigated. Mechanical properties improved with increasing carbon black concentration, and these effects were prominent in carbon blacks haying large specific area. In the case of non-conductive carbon black. tracking resistance improved when a small amount of carbon black was added to EPDM. Conductive carbon black showed detrimental effect to dielectric losses, volume resistivity and tracking resistance of EPDM compound.
The purpose of this study is to examine distribution and abundance of wintering raptors in Korea during 2000-2007 which is a rare data set for covering large landscape areas. Total 6,643 raptors of 16 species were recorded at 94 different points in west, south and east coasts, and rivers of inland areas all over Korea. During the study period, the most abundant raptors were black vulture (Aegypius monachus, 62.3%), common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus, 11.0%) and common buzzard (Buteo buteo, 10.0%), and these 3 birds were dominant species in inland areas and also considered as resident species except for black vulture. Also, there was a difference among 5 different habitat types. Black vultures were most found in estuaries whereas common buzzard and common kestrel could be found in coastal areas. Presumably raptors prefer reservoirs and estuaries probably due to lower human disturbance in these areas, and management efforts should be concentrated in inland areas for black vulture and coastal areas for common kestrel and common buzzard.
Soaked black rot symptom was observed on the stem of Angelica acutiloba from July to August 2000 at Kumsan, Chungnam in Korea. This disease usually occurred under humid and high temperature conditions. The lesions on the stem appeared as soft rot with brown elliptical spots, which developed into large black spots at a later stage. When the bacterial isolates from the diseased plants were inoculated onto healthy plants by artificial needle prick method, symptoms similar to that observed in the fields developed. According to the cultural characteristics and pathogenicity of the isolates on the host plant the causal bacterium was identified as Xanthomonas campestris. This study proposed that the disease be named "bacterial black stem rot of A. acutiloba"loba".
Increasement of power demand rapid industrial growth has led the expansion of power system, and it caused construction of large power transmission line(like 765kV T/L) and substation. If there are T/L faults (route contingency etc), it lead to the large scale black out in SEOUL AREA (the center of load). To minimize damage which caused by the large scale black out, KEPCO selects the method of load shadding. In this work, instead of general method of load shadding, We study the application of UVLS model to decrease the load shadding in SEOUL AREA. The study result of using the UVLS model showed that the amont of load shadding can be decreased about 400 MW compare to the existing load shadding system.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of stem materials such as black stem on the quality of expended stem and cigarettes. Normal and black stem were separated by tobacco scan and then, those stems were expanded after treating with their respective stem casings. Total sugar, ether extract, ash contents and pH were slightly low in black stem compared with normal stem. However, the number of bacteria and fungi ratio were remarkably higher in black stem than that of normal stem. As compared with normal stems, ratio of rushed stem in rolled process was approximately 2 times higher in black stem with the consequency that the filling capacity of black stem was decreased. The ratio of large particles (> 3.35 mm) of expanded black stem showed decreasing tendency and small particles rate (1.40 mm <) was increased compared with normal stem. When expanded stems were prepared using stem containing 5 levels (0, 10, 20, 30 and 100 %) of black stem, the filling capacity was decreased and static burning rate was significantly decreased with increasing expanded black stem rate. However, the weight and hardness of cigarettes were slightly increased with increasing expanded black stem rate. The contents of phenol compounds, aromatic amines and carbonyl compounds in the cigarette mainstream smoke from the cigarette which was manufactured with various ratio of expended black stem, were gradually increased with increasing expanded black stem rates. Also, the cytotoxicity and the mutagenicity of the TPM were significantly increased with increasing expanded black stem rate. The sensory test result showed that cigarettes blended with 10 and 30 % level of black stem rate was exhibited significantly high sensory attributions such as off-taste, impact, hotness, bitterness and irritation as compared with cigarette blended with normal stem, while smoke fullness and cleanness were slightly decreased with increasing expanded black stem rates. The number of brown spots on cigarettes paper was 2 to 3 times high in cigarettes containing black stem than that of cigarette made from normal stem and were high with increasing black stem rate. The overall assessment in this study suggest, that black stem should not be used because of bad quality of expanded stem and high toxicological activity of cigarette mainstream smoke.
