이종 주조알루미늄-고장력강의 겹치기 마찰교반접합에서 툴회전속도에 따른 기계적 특성평가 (Evaluation of Mechanical Properties with Tool Rotational Speed in Dissimilar Cast Aluminum and High-Strength Steel of Lap Jointed Friction Stir Welding)

  • Recently, friction stir welding of dissimilar materials are one of the biggest issues in terms of light-weight and eco-friendly technology of the automotive, aircraft and ship industry. In this study, friction stir welding of dissimilar materials is introduced with different tool rotational speed. Materials used in experimentation consist of A357 gravity cast aluminum alloy and FB590 high-strength steel plates. Dissimilar materials of plate type are fabricated with width of 150mm, length of 300mm and thickness of 3mm and welding is carried out by the lap joint method. The correlation between probe length and mechanical properties were investigated according to rotational speed and welding speed at tool tilt angle 0 degree. Consequently, feasibility of FSWed dissimilar materials were successfully presented in case of cast aluminum and high-strength steel at lap joint method.

  • The scope of this investigation is to evaluate the effect of joining parameters on the microstructural features and mechanical properties of dissimilar aluminum alloys, 1mm-thickness fixing AA6K31 at the top position and fixing AA5J32 at the bottom position. The friction stir lap welds were studied under various welding conditions, rotation speed of 1000, 1250, 1500rpm and welding speed of 100, 300, 500, 700mm/min, respectively. Mechanical test has been investigated in terms of tensile shear test and hardness test. The results showed that three type nugget shapes such as onion ring, zigzag type, hooking with the void, have been observed with revolutionary pitch. All welding conditions fractured at the HAZ of top plate, A6K31 and also the strength compare with base metal of lap joints were low efficiency, 52~63%. The thickness of fractured position was decreased with the lower heat input conditions. The relationships were excellent due to linear between the effective thickness of fractured position and peak load. The fractured position was the interface between joint area and not joint area. Also the strength efficiency compared with base metal was lower than decreasing rate of thickness because the hardness was decreased at fractured position due to softened material.

  • Formation of the weld defect, such as a blowhole and a pit in lap-jointed fillet arc welds has been a serious problem in arc welding of Zn-coated steel sheet. In this study, the relationship among welding conditions, welding materials and defect formation was investigated in order to minimize these defects in the CO₂ welds. In addition, the arc stability of the commercial welding wires was evaluated for revealing their effects on defect formation. Main conclusions obtained are as follows:1) There was no difference between shear tensile strength of the sound welds and that of the welds with blowholes whose diameters are less than 0.5mm. However, the welds with blowholes whose diameters are equal or larger than 0.5mm and pits exhibited tensile strength 10~20% and 30~40% lower than that of the sound welds respectively.2) The optimum welding condition to effectively prevent or reduce the weld defects formation are as follows:- The welding variables of 220A-23V-100cm/min and 120A-190V-30cm/min were recommended for minimizing the weld defects.- The gap between the two sheets at the lap-joint should be controlled to more than 0.2mm- Solid wire was less susceptible to the formation of the weld defects than the flux-cored wire.- The low welding current condition produced less weld defects than the hihg welding current condition.3) One of the reason why the amount of the defect was reduced at the low welding current was the gas discharging by the active agitation of the molten pool, due to an increasing in the number of the short circuit. 용접방향에 따른 겹치기 레이저 용접부의 피로강도 (Effects of welding direction and residual stress on the Laser welds)

  • Finite element analysis and experiment were peformed to estimate the fatigue strength for the lap joint of laser weld. To consider quantitatively residual stress which effects on the fatigue strength of the lap joint of laser weld, after three dimensional modeling for the longitudinal and transverse direction, residual stress fields in the weldment were calculated using thermo-elastic-plastic finite element analysis, then the equivalent fatigue stress considering the residual stress was obtained. To ensure reliability of calculated fatigue strength, fatigue tests were performed. The calculated and experimental results showed a good agreement. The fatigue strength considering a residual stress was lower than that of without considering a residual stress in the lap joint of laser welding. The fatigue strength in the transverse direction was higher than that of longitudinal direction.

  • Magnesium alloys have gained increased attention in recent years as the structural materials, because of their attractive properties such as good specific strength, excellent sound damping capability. However, to expand their applications, a reliable joining process is absolutely necessary. In this study, a CW fiber laser was used to investigate the lap weldability of sand casting and wrought magnesium alloys. The effect of defocused distance on lap weldability was examined, and it was found that spatters always generated at the around focused distance because of the high power density of the laser beam. Thus, defocused distance was required to obtain sound welds. In addition, the application of fillet welding was evaluated for minimizing the affect of sand casting magnesium alloy that have relatively poor weldability. As a result of this study, we could confirm good weldability without weld defects.

  • The spatter and porosity could be occurred during$CO_2$CW laser welding of Primer- coated steel for shipbuilding. This study has suggested an alternative idea by examining of weld-defect formation mechanism. The primer-coated plate induced the spatter humping bead and porosity and these are main part of the welding defect. attributed to the powerful vaporizing pressure of primer attached on the base metal The zinc of Primer has a boiling point that is the lower temperature than melting point of steel zinc vapor will build up at the interface between the two sheets and this tends to deteriorate the quality of the weld by ejecting weld material from lap position or leaving porosity. Therefore introducing a small gap clearance in the lap position. the zinc vapor could escape through it and sound weld beads can be acquired. In conclusion, we suggested the occurred and prevented mechanism of weld defects with searching the factor.

  • The lap Joint welding of 6K21 aluminum sheets by Nd:YAG laser were performed with an aluminum 5183 filler wire or without a filler wire. The porosity of laser welding beads were observed through an optical microscope and X-ray photography with various levels of welding speed and gap size. The porosity was observed in the gap between upper and lower sheet near a heat affected zone when autogenous welding. Decrease of welding speed and use of AA5183 filler wire reduced porosity significantly.

  • New type of vehicles made from thin aluminum alloy are under rapid development and some product are already on the market, but when welding sheet metal joint of aluminum alloy, the main problem are burn-through by the high heat input. The purpose of this study, it is to prevent the burn-through and to shallow penetration that AC pulse welding has diminish the penetration and to lower the droplet temperature at Al sheet metal welding. In this study, we observed the bead appearance and whether it was appeared burn through or not , as the variation of the root gap in the lap and butt-joint welding process.

접착제 접합 이음부 접합강도 평가에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Evaluation of Bonding Strength of Adhesively Bonded Joints by Adhesive)

  • In this study, the bonding strengths of adhesively bonded joints are experimentally investigated. A series of lap-shear tests are conducted using single lap type adhesive joints. In order to analyse the joint fabrication factors that affected the bonding strength, the parametric tests are conducted with various thickness of adhesive, surface roughness and fillet of adhesive. In addition, for the comparative study with the welded joint, lap-shear tests using specimens with 2 welded sides and 4 welded sides are also carried out. The quantitative results of the strength analysis are summarized, and some proposals are made on setting up testing standards for adhesively bonded joints.
