The purpose of this study is to investigate what English teachers think about what and how to teach culture, as a way of helping students build relevant background knowledge and enhance their motivation in learning English. A total of 300 teachers completed a self-report questionnaire in four areas: (i) their understanding and liking of English-spoken countries, (ii) their use of materials and tools for teaching culture, (iii) their consciousness of teaching culture, and (iv) their needs for culture learning in the teacher-training program. The results show that (i) they think American culture is dominant in EFL but they are much interested in British culture; (ii) they rely on internet most for their cultural experience while they think students get much of the cultural information from textbooks; (iii) they are very much conscious of the importance of teaching culture for improving students' English proficiency; (iv) they want to learn in the teacher training program more about cultural practice, which can be subsumed under the so called 'small c'. The findings suggest that (i) textbooks need to include contents to promote students' cultural awareness and foster intercultural competence, (ii) teachers should use authentic materials with appropriate adaptation, and (iii) a teacher training program should cover a wide range of contents and skills for teaching culture.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between resilience of migrant workers and their mental health for improving their quality of life and adaptation in Korean society. Methods: Data were collected from March 21 to May 7, 2011. The participants included 488 migrant workers who lived in Busan Metropolitan City or Gyoungnam province. Results: First, heavy working burdens and lack of rests, low wages, poor living environments, low economic status & deficiency of living necessities, hard physical labors, and conflicts with Korean workers had negative effects on mental health. Second, high perceived stress caused by usual 'living difficulties', high 'cutural shock', high feeling of 'social isolation', and high discomfort from 'lack of Korean language proficiency' gave negative effects on migrant worker's mental health. Third, the most important factor on the mental health was the 'cultural shock' among stressors. Even though many stressors existed among migrant workers, these negative effects on mental health were lessened by their high resilience level. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of migrant workers in Busan, Korea. To improve their mental health, social support including financial supports and educational programs that foster resilience needed.

This study is to explore the effects of leisure life on multi-cultural family from a view of marriage migrants women. For this purpose, data were collected by in-depth interviews of 24 marriage migrants women who came from 7 countries such as Vietnam, China, Japan etc. They are living in Daejeon city, Okcheon gun(Chungbuk), Gumi city(Gyungbuk) and the length of residence is ranging from 4 and half month to 13 years and 6 months. Data were analyzed by qualitative method. Major findings are as follows: First, individual and family leisure of marriage migrant women had positive effects on adaptation of her family life. Especially, in the early marriage stage, family leisure contributed women's emotional stability. Second, time was the most limiting constraints in family leisure of multi-cultural family. Third, early in the marriage, marriage migrant women who is not fluent in Korean language, customs, and courtesy hinders them from joining their family leisure. Fourth, leisure may seem to contribute to family life satisfaction, but marital relationships and household economy has to be settled beforehand.
When English monosyllabic words are adapted to the Korean language, the loanwords tend to carry extra syllables. The purpose of this paper is to find the syllable augmentation conditions in loanword adaptation and further to provide an algorithm to predict the syllable numbers of English monosylabic loanwords. Three syllable augmentation conditions are found as follows: 1) the existence of diphthong, 2) the existence of consonant clusters, and 3) the quality of the final consonant (and the preceding vowel). Based on these three conditions, an algorithm to predict the syllable number of English monosyllabic loanwords are proposed as three rules applied iteratively with ordering. In addition, the applications of the algorithm to data are given.
As various methodologies for business process analysis and design have been conducted in many organizations by their own ways, those methodologies are not compatible each other. In order to reduce the cost of analysis for organizations. some mapping methods between different methodologies need to be developed. UMM(UN/CEFACT Modeling Methodology) that has an object-oriented point of view. can overcome the limits of existing bottom-up approaches and make it reasonable. It also simplifies the business and administrative procedures. IDEF( Integrated Definition Language) with a structural point of view that has been widely used as a system analysis and design method, needs to be mapped to UMM in order to reuse the existing IDEF models. In this study, we propose a guideline that deals with procedures of utilizing IDEF models from which we want to derive the UMM models for developing an electronic commerce system including electronic documents exchange. By comparing IDEF and UMM, we analyze the differences between those two methodologies. Based on these differences. we suggest the basic strategies for mapping method from IDEF to UMM. We also propose a mapping guideline that can make UMM results from the modeling results of IDEF. We can take an advantage of the existing IDEF analysis design results when we adopt UMM methodology for electronic business system. Many analysts who are familiar with the IDEF methodology can develop UMM work-flow by utilizing their existing results and skills.

This study is planned to help women in international marriages to develop their sense of self-esteem and their family life and to adapt to Korean society, The findings are as follows: First, the women in international marriage tend to have low self-esteem and difficulty to adapt themselves to the society due to language barrier, cultural conflicts, sense of alienation, isolation and so on. however, now they seem to have the strength of mind by themselves, to accept other people and to adapt to the society better than before the education program by having had communications with the program members and their allied mothers in the program. Second, the cohesion among the program members per session has improved over the sessions, and the members' interest in the education program has increased. moreover, the members have opened up themselves over time. Third, the alliances with Korean teachers as their allied mothers not only helped their Korean but also taught the members about family life. It helped the members to adjust to their family life and became a mental support.
This study is about the spatial organization of Korean houses designed by architects. It is focused on the characteristics and transformation of spatial organization of houses designed since 1970. The variety and regularity of organization existed at the spatial structure of Korean houses are analysed through typological theory. In this study, the connecting methods between rooms appeared in the plans of 190 detached houses are analysed and classified chronologically. The connecting methods of space between L-D-K, between living room and master bedroom are analysed. And the methods of spatial division inside of master bedroom are also analysed. As a result of the analyses, it is clear that the spatial organization of architects' houses turns its direction from the concept of 'unifying and clustering' to that of 'dividing and segregating' . In contrast to the 70s, there shows a strong diversity in the connecting methods after the 80s with adaptation of the 'language of linear plan' using many forms of intermediary elements between spaces. This result would be relative to the changing trend of design philosophy and the changing tendency in the relationship between the inside and outside space of house.
With the development of the Internet of Things technology, a system that ensures the self-adaptability of an environment that includes various IoT devices is attracting public attention. The rules for determining behavior rules in existing self-adaptation systems are based on the assumption of changes in system members and environment. However, in the IoT environment, flexibility is required to determine the behavior rules of various types of IoT devices that change in real time. In this paper, we propose a rule configuration in a self-adaptive system using SWRL based on OWL ontology. The self-adaptive system using the OWL - SWRL rule configuration has two advantages. The first is based on OWL ontology, so we can define the characteristics and behavior of various types of IoT devices as an integrated concept. The second is to define the concept of a rule as a specific language type, and to add, modify and delete a rule at any time as needed. Through the rule configuration in the adaptive system, we have shown that the rule defined in SWRL can provide flexibility and deeper concept expression function to adaptability to IoT environment.

Gadget-2 is a scientific simulation code has been used for many different types of simulations like, Colliding Galaxies, Cluster Formation and the popular Millennium Simulation. The code is parallelized with Message Passing Interface (MPI) and is written in C language. There is also a Java adaptation of the original code written using MPJ Express called Java Gadget. Java Gadget writes a lot of checkpoint data which may or may not use the HDF-5 file format. Since, HDF-5 is MPI-IO compliant, we can use our MPJ-IO library to perform parallel reading and writing of the checkpoint files and improve I/O performance. Additionally, to add reliability to the code execution, we propose the usage of Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) for writing the intermediate (checkpoint files) and final data (output files). The current code writes and reads the input, output and checkpoint files sequentially which can easily become bottleneck for large scale simulations. In this paper, we propose Sim-Hadoop, a framework to leverage HDFS and MPJ-IO for improving the I/O performance of Java Gadget code.
