4-Octyl-4'-(5-carboxy-pentamethylene-oxy)azobenzene과 Dilauroyl-L-${\alpha}$- Phosphayidylcholine의 혼합 LB막의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Properties of Langmuir-Blodgett Films of 4-Octyl-4'-(5-carboxy-pentamethylene-oxy)azobenzene and Dilauroyl-L-${\alpha}$-Phosphayidylcholine Mixture)

  • We carried out this experiment to observe electrochemical properties for LB films of phospholipid(Dilauroyl-L-${\alpha}$-Phosphayidylcholine) and 4-octyl-4'-(5-carboxypentamethylene-oxy)azobenzene mixture by the cyclic voltammetry. LB films of 8A5H and 8A5H-DLPC(1:1, 2:1) were deposited by using the Langmuir-Blodgett method on the ITO glass. We determined electrochemical measurement by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference elect rode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode measured in 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mol/L $NaClO_{4}$ solution. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350 mV, continuously oxidized to 1650 mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rate were 50, 100, 150 and 200 mV/s. As a result, LB films of 8A5H 8A5H-DLPC appeared irreversible process caused by only the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram.

  • 포화지방산과 인지질(DMPC)혼합 LB막에 대한 전기화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 포화지방산과 DMPC 혼합 단분자 LB막은 ITO glass에 Langmuir-Blodgett법을 사용하여 제막하였다. 전기화학적 특성은 $NaClO_4$ 용액에서 3 전극 시스템 (Ag/AgCl 기준전극, 백금선 카운터 전극 및 LB 필름이 코팅된 ITO 작업 전극)으로 순환전압전류법을 사용하여 측정하였다. 그 결과 포화지방산과 인지질(DMPC)의 LB막은 순환전압전류도표로부터 산화전류로 인한 비가역공정으로 나타났다. 포화지방산과 인지질(DMPC)혼합(몰비 1:1) LB막(C14, C16, C18, C20)에서 확산계수(D)는 0.05 N $NaClO_4$에서 각각 $1.2{\times}10^{-3}$, $2.1{\times}10^{-3}$, $1.4{\times}10^{-4}$$1.1{\times}10^{-3}cm^2/s$로 산출되었다.

Mono- and Multi-layer Langmuir-Blodgett Films of Maleimide Polymers Possessing Nonlinear Optical-Active Side Chains

  • A copolymer P[OSA-MI] was synthesized by copolymerization of its corresponding monomers, N-phenyl maleimide (MI) and 2-octen-l-ylsuccinic anhydride (OSA). The polymer (poly[2-[1-(2,5-dioxo-l-phenylpyrroli­din-3-ylmethyl)heptyl]-succinic acid 4-(2-$\{$ethyl-[4-(4-nitrophen-ylazo)phenyl]amino$\}$ethyl)ester]) P[DR1MA-MI] was obtained from the reaction of P[OSA-MI] with 2-[4-(4-nitrophenylazo)-N-ethylphenylamino] ethanol (DR1). A stable monolayer of P[DRIMA-MI] was formed by spreading the solution of the polymer in chloroform. In Y-type Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films prepared using this Langmuir-Blodgett method, the second harmonic waves generated from adjacent mono layers canceled each other out. In X-and Z-type LB films, the second harmonic intensity increased upon increasing the number of monolayers, but this increase was somewhat smaller than predicted by the square law. This phenomenon is due to defects or imperfect alignment of the dipoles in the LB film. The generation of second harmonic waves from Y-type LB films having an even number of mono layers supports this argument. The degree of imperfection seemed to increase as the number of layers increased. The second-order nonlinear optical properties of spin-cast films of these polymers were also measured. The largest second harmonic coefficient of the poled P[DRIMA-MI] film coated on a glass plate was 19 pm/V.

  • We investigated the electrochemical properties for Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films mixed with 4-octyl-4'-(5-carboxylpentamethyleneoxy)azobenzene (denoted as 8A5H) and $phospholipid(L-{\alpha}-dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine$, denoted as DMPC). LB films of 8A5H monolayer and 8A5H-DMPC were deposited by using the Langmuir-Blodgett method on the indium tin oxide(ITO) glass. The electrochemical properties measured by using cyclic voltammetry with a three_electrode system, an Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode at various concentrations(0.1, 0.5, and 1.0mol/L) of $NaClO_4$ solution. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350mV, continuously oxidized to 1650mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rates were 50, 100, 150 and 200mV/s, respectively. As a result, LB films of 8A5H monolayer appeared irreversible process caused by only the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram and LB films of 8A5H-DMPC mixture were found to be caused by a reversible oxidation-reduction process.

유기박막의 전기적 특성 연구 (A Study on Electrical Characteristics of Organic Thin Film)

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB)layers of Arachidic acid deposited by LB method were deposited onto slide glass as Y-type film. The structure of manufactured device is Au/arachidic acid/Al, the number of accumulated layers are $9{\sim}21$. Also, we then examined of the Metal-Insulator-Metal(MIM) device by means of I-V. The I-V characteristics of the device are measured from -3 to +3 V. The insulation property of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is larger.

  • A film is fabricated by depositing several sliced organic ultra thin films on a slide glass. Both UV-absorbance and the capacitance of a multi - layered organic ultra thin film with (N-docosyl pyridinium)-TCNQ(1:2) complex have a desired value on the condition of well alignment in depositing several layers. Forethermore the conductivity of this film measured by the direction of either horizontal or vertical axis. respectively, is results in a quite different value.

P(VDF-TrFE) LB박막의 구조특성 (Structural Properties of P(VDF-TrFE) LB Films)

  • We report the studies on the structrural properties of Langmuir Blodgett (LB) films fabricated from the copolymer of vinylidenefluoride (VDF) with trifluoroethylene(TrFE). The formation of nanomesas induced by thermal annealing at $135\;^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour was investigated with the atomic force microscope (AFM) and the X-ray diffractometer (XRD). From the result of surface morphology change in 30 monolayer LB film, we find that the annealing treatment on the P(VDF-TrFE) LB film result in the plastic deformation of crystalline polymer. The ${\beta}$ phase crytalline structure in annealed LB film was clearly confirmed from the XRD peak at $19.7^{\circ}$.

  • Displacement current measuring technique has been applied on the study of polyamic acid monolayer containing p-nitroazobenzene. The displacement current was generated from monolayer on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Maxwell displacement current(MDC) was generated when the area per molecule was about $200{\AA}^2$ and $70{\AA}^2$. Maxwell displacement currents were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. The monolayer surface morphology of the LB film have been measured by Atomic Force Microscope(AFM). As a result, we confirmed that the microscopic properties of LB film by AFM showed the good orientation of monolayer molecules and the thickness of monolayer was 3.5-4.1nm.

Free-Standing Langmuir-Blodgett Films of Maleic Acid-Vinyl Ether Copolymers across 1 μm Pores

  • A coverage of about 1 μm-sized pores of a membrane filter by four monolayers of maleic acids copolymers and poly(allylamine) (PAA) was attained by Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique through a covalent cross-linking followed a polyion complexation at the air-water interface. The copolymers were prepared to have side chains of hydrocarbon tail, carboxyl, and/or oligoether in the repeat unit. The surface pressure-area isotherms showed that the monolayers on an aqueous PAA have more expanded area than on pure water. The monolayers were transferable on a calcium fluoride substrate and a fluorocarbon membrane filter as Y deposition type, and the resulting LB films were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. A polymer network produced through interchain amide formation was confirmed in as-deposited films. The films were heat-treated in order to complete the cross-linking. SEM observation of the heat-treated film on a porous membrane filter showed that the four layer film was sufficiently stable to cover the filter pore of about 1 μm. Immersion of the film in water or in chloroform did not cause any change in its appearance on SEM and in FT-IR spectra.
