The simple Langmuir isotherm is frequently employed to describe the equilibrium behavior of protein adsorption on a wide variety of adsorbents. The two adjustable parameters of the Langmuir isotherm - the saturation capacity, or $q_m$, and the dissociation constant, $K_d$ - are usually estimated by fitting the isotherm equation to the equilibrium data acquired from batch equilibration experiments. In this study, we have evaluated the possibility of estimating $q_m$ and $K_d$ for the adsorption of bovine serum albumin to a cation exchanger using batch kinetic data. A rate model predicated on the kinetic form of the Langmuir isotherm, with three adjustable parameters ($q_m,\;K_d$, and a rate constant), was fitted to a single kinetic profile. The value of $q_m$ determined as the result of this approach was quantitatively consistent with the $q_m$ value derived from the traditional batch equilibrium data. However, the $K_d$ value could not be retrieved from the kinetic profile, as the model fit proved insensitive to this parameter. Sensitivity analysis provided significant insight into the identifiability of the three model parameters.
A molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) using (+)catechin ((+)C) as a template and acrylamide (AM) as a functional monomer was prepared. Acetonitrile was used as the porogen with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the crosslinker and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as the initiator. The adsorption isotherms in the MIP were measured and the parameters of the equilibrium isotherms were estimated by linear and nonlinear regression analyses. The linear equation for original concentration and adsorpted concentrations was then expressed, and the adsorption equilibrium data were correlated into Langmuir, Freundlich, quadratic, and Langmuir Extension isotherm models. The mixture compounds of (+)C and epicatechin (EC) show competitive adsorption on specific binding sites of the (+)catechin-MIP. The adsorption concentrations of (+)C, epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), on the (+)catechin-molecular imprinted polymer were compared. Through the analysis, the (+)catechin-molecular imprinted polymer showed higher adsorption ability than blank polymer which was synthesized molecular imprinted polymer without (+)catechin. Furthermore, the competitive Langmuir isotherms were applied to the mixture compounds of (+)C and EC.
Interfacial properties of commercially available soft contact lens hydrogels were studied to understand thermodynamic phenomena of protein adsorption. Hydrogel particles ($1{\times}1mm^2$) with varying water wettability were exposed to bovine serum albumin solutions for an hour. The remained albumin solutions were analyzed with Bradford assay method. The amount of protein adsorbed to hydrogels increased with protein solution concentrations following Langmuir isotherm. The partition coefficient ($P$) and Gibbs free energy cost of dehydrating the surface region by protein displacement upon adsorption increased with increasing hydrophilicity of contact lens. Understanding of physical chemistry in protein adsorption to contact lens materials enabled elucidating relationships between surface energy and albumin adsorption capacity.

Two types of synthetic zeolites, commercially used (Z-WK) and synthesized by coal fly ash (Z-C1), and raw coal fly ash(F-C1) were examined for its kinetics and adsorption capacities of cobalt. Experimental data are fitted with kinetic models, Lagergen $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ order models, and four types of adsorption isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan. Synthesized zeolite (Z-C1) which had 1.51 of Si/Al ratio was synthesized by raw coal fly ash from a thermal power plant. Adsorption capacities with three types of adsorbents, Z-WK, Z-C1, and F-C1, were in the order of Z-C1 (94.15 mg/g) > F-C1 (92.94 mg/g) > Z-WK (88.56mg/g). The adsorption kinetics of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt could be accurately described by a pseudo-second-order rate equation. The adsorption isotherms of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt were well fitted by the Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson equation. Z-C1 will be used to remove cobalt in water as a more efficient absorbent.
Adsorption characteristics of $H_{2}S$ on KOH impregnated activated carbon were evaluated using dynamic adsorption method in a fixed bed. The pore properties, including BET's specific surface area, pore volume, pore size distribution, and mean pore diameter of these KOH impregnated activated carbons, were characterized from $N_{2}$ adsorption/desorption isotherms. Adsorption equilibrium data were correlated with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption of $H_{2}S$ onto the KOH impregnated activated carbon is better fitted by the Langmuir isotherm. An increase in the content of oxygen affects the performance of KOH impregnated activated carbon to the greatest extent.

This study was to evaluate the influential parameters such as intial Cs concentration, reaction temperature, contact time and pH variation of solution on Cs adsorption. Using the experimental data, adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamic properties were analyzed. The Cs ion adsorption of the zeolite X was effective in the range from pH 5 to 10 and reached equilibrium after 60 minutes. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of Cs ion with the zeolite X was described well by the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Cs ion calculated from Langmuir isotherm model at 293~333 K were from 303.03 mg/g to 333.33 mg/g. It was found that thermodynamic property of Cs ion absorption on the zeolite X was spontaneous and endothermic reaction. The experimental data were fitted a second-order polynomial equation by the multiple regression analysis. The values of the dependent variable calculated by this best fitted model equation were in very good agreement with the experimentally obtained values.
This study investigated on the adsorption and photocatalysis of Reactive Black 5(RB5) by the hydroxyapatite(HAP)/Titanium dioxide($TiO_{2}$) media. The adsorption of RB5 on $TiO_{2}$, HAP and $TiO_{2}$/HAP was investigated during a series of batch adsorption experiments. The amounts adsorbed at equilibrium were measured. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were tested for their applicability. The result of equilibrium studies of $TiO_{2}$, HAP and $TiO_{2}$/HAP adsorbent were found to follow Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorbed amounts(Qmax) were found to be 5.28mg/g on single $TiO_{2}$, 12.45mg/g on single HAP and 9.03mg/g on $TiO_{2}$/HAP, respectively. The experimental data were analysed using the pseudo-first-order adsorption and photocatalysis kinetic models. According to these models, RB5 degradation by $TiO_{2}$/HAP was affected by interaction effect of photocatalysis and adsorption.
The relation between the phase-shift profile for the intermediate frequencies and the Langmuir adsorption isotherm at the poly-$Pt/0.1\;M\;H_2SO_4$ aqueous electrolyte interface has been studied using ac impedance measurements, i.e., the phase-shift methods. The suggested interfacial equivalent circuit consists of the serial connection of the electrolyte resistance ($R_S$), the faradaic resistance $(R_F)$ and the equivalent circuit element $(C_P)$ of the adsorption pseudocapacitance $(C_\varphi)$. The delayed phase shift $(\varphi)$ depends on both the cathode potential (E) and frequency (f), and is given by $\varphi=-tan^{-1}[1/2{\pi}f(R_s+R_F)C_p]$. The phase-shift profile $(\varphi\;vs.\;E)$ for the intermediate frequency (ca. 6Hz) can be used as an experimental method to determine the Langmuir adsorption isotherm (9 vs. E). The equilibrium constant (K) for H adsorption and the standard free energy $({\Delta}G_{ads})$ of H adsorption at the poly-$Pt/0.1\;M\;H_2SO_4$ electrolyte interface are $1.8\times10^{-4}\;and\;21.4kJ/mol$, respectively. The H adsorption is attributed to the over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H).

The adsorption of phenolic compound resorcinol on activated carbons prepared from Moringa oleifera (Drumstick bark) has been investigated. Activated carbon was prepared by impregnating Moringa oleifera with 50% phosphoric acid in the ratio of 1:1 and 1:2(w/w), designated as MOAC1 and MOAC2. Equilibrium and isotherm studies were carried out. The influences of variables such as contact time, initial concentration of resorcinol, carbon dosage in the solution on percentage adsorption and adsorption capacity of the bark have been analysed. The equilibration time was found to be 4 h. Kinetics of resorcinol onto activated carbons was checked for pseudo first order and pseudo second order model. It was found that the adsorption of resorcinol follows pseudo second order kinetics for both MOAC1 and MOAC2. The isotherm data were correlated with isotherm models, namely Langmuir and Freundlich. Adsorption isotherms were satisfactorily fitted by both the Langmuir and Freundlich model for MOAC1 and MOAC2.
Nitrate removal from aqueous solution was investigated using $ZnCl_2$ and phosphoric acid activated carbon developed from pomegranate peel with particle size 0.4 mm. Potassium nitrate solution was used in batch adsorption experiments for nitrate removal from water. The effects of activated carbon dosage, time of contact, and pH were studied. The equilibrium time was fond to be 45 min. Two theoretical adsorption isotherms namely Langmuir and Freundlich were used to describe the experimental results. The Langmuir fit the isotherm with the theoretical adsorption capacity ($q_t$) was fond 78.125 mg g-1. Adsorption kinetics data were modeled using the pseudo-first, pseudo-second order, and intraparticle diffusion models. The results indicate that the second-order model best describes adsorption kinetic data. Results show activated carbon produced from pomegranate is effective for removal of nitrate from aqueous solution.
