  • A lectin was isolated from the fruiting bodies of Lampteromyces japonicus by preparative PAGE and named LJAP (Lampteromyces japonicus antibacterial protein). LJAP was a polymeric protein of more than one hundred kDa consisting of 17-kDa subunits. The amino acid analysis revealed a high content of serine, glycine, and acidic amino acids. LJAP has an excellent antibacterial activity for Escherichia coli, JM 109, K 12, HB 101, and JW 380. By the inhibition assay of the antibacterial activity, a glycoprotein, asialofetuin was confirmed as the best inhibitor. This is the first lectin isolated and characterized its antibacterial and agglutination activities from the family Lampteromyces.

  • To investigate constituents of Lampteromyces japonicus (Kawam.) Singer which grows wildly in Korea, the carpophores of the fungus were collected in Gyeong Gi. Province and analyzed for sterols and amino acids by gas chromatography and an amino acid autoanalyzer. The results showed that it contained stigmasterol and ergosterol and that it contained eleven free amino acids. These free amino acids were also determined quantitatively. Furthermore, sixteen amino acids were identified in the total amino acid fraction of the fruiting body.

  • A carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) bas been isolated and purified from Lampteromyces japonicus. The molecular weight of CMCase was estimated to be 42 kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The maximum activity of the purified CMCase was observed at pH 6.0 and $30^{\circ}C$, and stable for pH 4 to 7 to maintain 40% activity. The CMCase activity was activated by $Al_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}$, and inhibited by SDS. Also, the enzyme activity was decreased by the addition of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), suggesting that the purified CMCase is metalloenzyme.

  • Lampteromyces japonicus is the most popular source of mushroom poisoning in Japan. We isolated poisonous substance, illudin S, 40 years ago, which shower strong anti-tumoric activity. Its analogs are now the most hopeful anti-cancer agent. Clitocybe acromelalgia gives unique poisoning which exhibits symptoms similar to acromelalgia and erythromelalgia. We intended to isolate the toxin causing these poisoning but neuroexciatory compounds, acromelic acids A and B, were isolated. They are now known as the most potent glutamate agonists and good reagents for the study of the glutamate receptor of a neurocell.

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic data on artificial culture of Lampteromyces japonicus. Favorable media for mycerial growth were glucose peptone medium, malt yeast extract, yeast malt peptone, potato dextrose medium. The optimum conditions for the mycelial growth were $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0. Dextrose as a carbon source was favorable to mycelial growth. The optimal dextrose concentration was 1.2%. As nitrogen sources, yeast extract, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ and 0.2% for glutamine. The mineral salts of $Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}14H_2O$ were effective and the optimal concentration was 0.1 M.

  • In order to detect poisonous or physiologically active constituents in the Higher Fungi growing in Korea, forty three species including two varieties were collected in Kyung Ki and Chung Cheong Buk Do Provinces and subjected to systematic extraction with two kinds of organic solvents. The extracts were examined for alkaloid by adding alkaloid reagents. Of these fungi, three species, Geaster fimbriatus, Lampteromyces japonicus and Pseudocolus schellenbergiae, gave positive confirmatory tests.

There were mushrooms of 53 families, 141 genus, 318 species at Mt. Palgong. 2. There were main edible mushroom of 63 species, main medicinal mushroom of 16 species, white rot fungus of 36 species and brown rot fungus of 4 species and Poisonous mushroom of 13 species at Mt. Palgong. 3. Poisonous mushrooms that are growing naturally at Mt. Palgong were Lampteromyces japonicus Sing, Amanita pantherina Krombh, Amanita phalloides Link, Naematoloma Krast and Amanita volvata Martin. 4. Numbers of mushroom species that are growing naturally at Mt. Palgong more than other regions.
