  • Composite laminated structures supported on elastic foundations are being increasingly used in a great variety of engineering applications. Composites exhibit larger dispersion in their material properties compared to the conventional materials due to large number of parameters associated with their manufacturing and fabrication processes. And also the dispersion in elastic foundation stiffness parameter is inherent due to inaccurate modeling and determination of elastic foundation properties in practice. For a better modeling of the material properties and foundation, these are treated as random variables. This paper deals with effects of randomness in material properties and foundation stiffness parameters on the free vibration response of laminated composite plate resting on an elastic foundation. A $C^0$ finite element method has been used for arriving at an eigen value problem. Higher order shear deformation theory has been used to model the displacement field. A mean centered first order perturbation technique has been employed to handle randomness in system properties for obtaining the stochastic characteristic of frequency response. It is observed that small amount of variations in random material properties and foundation stiffness parameters significantly affect the free vibration response of the laminated composite plate. The results have been compared with those available in the literature and an independent Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The laminated composite materials have been applied to various mechanical structures due to their high performance to weight ratios. In this study, we suggest a stochastic finite element scheme for the probabilistic analysis of the composite laminated plates. The composite materials consist of two different materials which constitute the matrix and fiber. The material properties in the major and minor directions are determined depending on the volume fraction of these two materials. In this study, the elastic modulus and shear modulus are considered as random and the effect of these random properties on the behavior of the composite plate is investigated. We adopt the weighted integral scheme in the formulation, which has been recognized as the most accurate method in the statistical methodologies. For verification of the proposed scheme, Monte Carlo analysis is also performed for the comparison with the proposed scheme.

  • Because of their superior mechanical properties to isotropic materials, composite laminated plates are used for many structural applications that require high stiffness-to-weight and strength-to-weight ratios. Composite materials are always subject to a certain amount of scatter in their elastic moduli, but most analyses and designs with the materials are usually conducted by assuming that the material properties are fixed and have no uncertainties. In this paper, a convex modeling approach is introduced to take account of such uncertainties in elastic moduli. It is used with the finite element method to predict the onset of failures in composite laminated plates subject to in-plane loading. Numerical results show that failures begin at the smaller load when the uncertainties of elastic moduli considered and therefore, such uncertainties should be considered at the design stage for the safety and reliability of the structures.

  • This paper presents analytical expressions for the determination of out of plane thermo-elastic properties for conventional laminated composite plates. The approach follows that commonly accepted for in-plane properties. Results over a variety of lay-ups reveals that it is poor assumption to use transverse tape lamina properties to represent out of plane laminate properties for laminates with more than 10% plies oriented off-axis($90^{\circ}$) from uniaxial or for laminates with angle plies of $15^{\circ}$ or greater.

  • The paper presents the thermo-mechanically induced non-linear response of multiwall carbon nanotube reinforced laminated composite beam (MWCNTRCB) supported by elastic foundation using higher order shear deformation theory and von-Karman non-linear kinematics. The elastic properties of MWCNT reinforced composites are evaluated using Halpin-Tsai model by considering MWCNT reinforced polymer matrix as new matrix by dispersing in it and then reinforced with E-glass fiber in an orthotropic manner. The laminated beam is supported by Pasternak elastic foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. A generalized static analysis is formulated using finite element method (FEM) through principle of minimum potential energy approach.

  • A study on the dynamic mechanical properties of the high strength carbon fiber epoxy composite beam was carried out. The macromechanical model was used for the theoretical analysis of the symmetric laminated composite beam. The anisotropic plate theory and Bernoulli-Euler beam theory were used to predict the effective flexural elastic modulus and the specific damping capacity of laminated composite beam. The free flexural vibration and torsional vibration tests were carried out to determine the specific damping capacities of the unidirectional laminated composite beam. The vibration tests were performed in a vacuum chamber with laser vibrometer system and electromagnetic hammer to obtain accurate experimental data. From the computational and experimental results, it was found that the theoretical values with the macromechanical analysis and the experimental data of symmetric laminated composite beam were in good agreement.

  • A new green home designed to save money while at the same time saving the environment with some of the finest green features available in the market. Composite column composed of structural steel and structural glued laminated timber is avery Eco-friendly building products for design building because that use recycled or second hand. For compare to compressive strength of structural glued laminated timber (glulam), structural steel, and composite column (steel-glulam), tested compressive strength of each specimen. 1) structural glued laminated timber : Theoretical compressive strength is 151.6 kN similar to elastic limits. 2) structural steel (H type) : Theoretical compressive strength is 148.2 kN little under the elastic limits. 3) structural steel (D type) : Theoretical compressive strength is 147.3 kN upper than the elastic limits. 4) composite column : Actual elastic limits are about 600 kN. Result in, composite column improve compressive strength of Structural steel column and provide structural stability of the building.

  • In this article, the influence of fuzzified uncertain composite elastic properties on non-linear deformation behaviour of the composite structure is investigated under external mechanical loadings (uniform and sinusoidal distributed loading) including the different end boundaries. In this regard, the composite model has been derived considering the fuzzified elastic properties (through a triangular fuzzy function, α cut) and the large geometrical distortion (Green-Lagrange strain) in the framework of the higher-order mid-plane kinematics. The results are obtained using the fuzzified nonlinear finite element model via in-house developed computer code (MATLAB). Initially, the model accuracy has been established and explored later to show the dominating elastic parameter affect the deflection due to the inclusion of fuzzified properties by solving a set of new numerical examples.

  • In the present manuscript, geometrically nonlinear free vibration analysis of thin laminated plates resting on non-linear elastic foundations is investigated. Winkler-Pasternak type foundation model is used. Governing equations of motions are obtained using the von Karman type nonlinear theory. The method of discrete singular convolution is used to obtain the discretised equations of motion of plates. The effects of plate geometry, boundary conditions, material properties and foundation parameters on nonlinear vibration behavior of plates are presented.

  • Laminated composite shells exhibit properties comsiderably different from those of the single-layer shell. Thus, to obtain the more accurate solutions to laminated composite shells ptoblems, effects of shear strain should be condidered in analysis of them. A higher-order shear deformation theory requires no shear correction coefficients. This theory is used to determine the buckling loads of elastic shells. The theory accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shear through the thickness of the shell and rotary inertia. Exact solutions of simply-supported shells are obtained and the results are compared with the exact solutions of the first-order shear deformation theory, and the classical theory. The present theory predicts the buckling loads more accurately when compared to the first -order and classical theory.
