The present study has numerically analyzed the vaporization characteristics of fuel droplets in the high temperature convective flow field. The axisymmetric governing equations for mass, momentum, energy, and species are solved by an iterative and implicite unstructured finite-volume method. The moving boundary due to vaporization is handled by the deformable unstructured grid technique. The pressure-velocity coupling in the density-variable flows is treated by the SIMPLEC algorithm. In terms of the matrix solver, Bi-CGSTAB is employed for the numerically efficient and stable convergence. The n-decane is used as a liquid fuel and the initial droplet temperature is 300K. Computations are performed for the nonevaporating and evaporating droplets with the relative interphase velocity(25m/s). The unsteady vaporization process has been simulated up to the nondimensional time, 25. Numerical results indicate that the mathematical model developed in this study succesfully simulates the main features of the droplet vaporization process in the convective environment.
A general purpose program NUFLEX for the analysis 3-D thermo/fluid flow and pre/post processor in complex geometry has been developed, which consists of a flow solver based on FVM and GUI based pre/post processor. The solver employs a general non-orthogonal grid system with structured grid and solves laminar and turbulent flows with standard/RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}\;SST$ turbulence model. In addition, NUFLEX is incorporated with various physical models, such as interfacial tracking, cavitation, MHD, melting/solidification and spray model. For the purpose of verification of the program and testing the applicability, many actual problems are solved and compared with the available data. Comparison of the results with that by STAR-CD or FLUENT program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure to test the validity of NUFLEX.
The effects of swirl intensity on non-reacting and reacting flow characteristics in a flat flame burner (FFB) with four types of swirlers were investigated. Experiments using the PIV method were conducted for several flow conditions with four swirl numbers of 0, 0.26, 0.6 and 1.24 in non-reacting flow. The results show that the strong swirling flow causes a recirculation, which has the toroidal structures, and spreads above the burner exit plane. Reacting flow characteristics such as temperature and the NO concentrations were also investigated in comparison with non-reacting flow characteristics. The mean flame temperature was measured as the function of radial distance, and the results show that the strong swirl intensity causes the mean temperature distributions to be uniform. However the mean temperature distributions at the swirl number of 0 show the typical distribution of long flames. NO concentration measurements show that the central toroidal recirculation zone caused by the strong swirl intensity results in much greater reduction in NO emissions, compared to the non-swirl condition. For classification into the flame structure interiorly, the turbulence Reynolds number and the Damkohler number have been examined at each condition. The interrelation between reacting and non-reacting flows shows that flame structures with swirl intensity belong to a wrinkled laminar-flame regime.
The finite difference lattice Boltzmann method(FDLBM) is a quite recent approach for simulating fluid flow, which has been proven as a valid and efficient tool in a variety of complex flow problems. It is considered an attractive alternative to conventional FDM and FVM, because it recovers the Navier-Stokes equations and is computationally more stable, and easily parallelizable to simulate for various laminar flows and a direct simulation of aerodynamics sounds. However, the research of a numerical simulation of turbulent flow by FDLBM, which is important to analyze the structure of turbulent flow in engineering fields, is not carried out. In this research, the FDLBM built in the turbulent model is applied, and a flowfield around 2-dimensional square to validate the applied model with 2D9V is simulated. Besides, 2D computation of the cavity noise generated by flow over a cavity at a Mach number of 0.1 and a Reynolds number based on cavity depth of 5000 is calculated. The computation result is well presented a understanding of the physical phenomenon of tonal noise occurred primarily by well-jet shear layer and vortex shedding and an aeroacoustic feedback loop.
The purpose of this work is to Investigate the pressure drop and the heat transfer characteristics in the channel of plate heat exchanger with crossed-discrete ribs. The flow is assumed to be three-dimensional, laminar and periodically fully developed. Computations have been carried out for angles of attack from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$ and ratios of rib height from 0.15 to 0.46 for various values of Reynolds and Prandtl numbers. The heat transfer was improved by inclined ribs generating helical vortices and secondary flows. The results show that the pressure drop has a maximum value at $70^{\circ}$ and the heat transfer has a maximum value at $45^{\circ}$. As the rib height increases, the pressure drop and the heat transfer increase quadratically, and the increasing rate of pressure drop is higher than that of the heat transfer. As Reynolds number increases, the pressure drop increases in proportion to the square of Reynolds number and the heat transfer increases linearly.
Co-flow laminar diffusion flames' temperature has been studied experimentally for ethylene$(C_2H_4)$ using a co-flow burner in order to investigate the characteristics of diffusion flame's temperature distribution. The temperature distributions in the flame were measured by rapid insertion of a R-type thermocouple. The measurement area was divided into three zones. 1st area was expect to created PAH zone, Il nd area was expect to form soot zone, which is known to generate most soot volume fraction, and III rd area was expect to from soot oxidization zone. Also The temperature along the flame y-axis as a fuel quantity was measured. As a results, we have measured temperature neglecting the effect of soot particles attached to the thermocouple junction, which is close to the nozzle and upstream zone has a unstable flow in co-flow diffusion flame and acquires that the flame y-axis temperature has a uniform temperature in the generated soot volume fraction zone(II nd).
An experimental study was carried out in order to investigate the influence of flow conditions on a boundary layer in the near-wake of a flat plate. The flow conditions in the vicinity of the trailing edge that is influenced by upstream condition history are an essential factor that determines the physical characteristics of a near-wake. Tripping wires attached at various positions were selected to change flow conditions of a boundary layer. The flows such as laminar, transitional, and turbulent boundary layer at 0.98C from the leading edge are imposed in order to investigate the evolution of symmetric and asymmetric wake. An x-type hot-wire probe(55P61) is employed to measure at 8 stations in the near-wake. Test results show that the near-wake for the case of a turbulent boundary layer is relatively insensitive to instability after separating at the trailing edge, and Reynolds shear stress in the near-wake for the case of a turbulent boundary layer collapses due to turbulent kinetic energy.
Casting behavior of Zr(Y,Ce)O2 TZP/Mullite suspension during pressure filtration was investigated to prepare multi-layered Functionally Gradient Materials(FGM). The dispersion stabilities of each layer suspension were investigated by examination of zeta potential and viscosity. The each suspensions with 20 vol.% solid loading and 100 첸 of viscosity was prepared after fix of the dispersing agent (Sodium hexa-meta phosphate) and the binder (Hydroxyethyl cellulose), and then the cakes were formed at the 2.5 MPa~10.0MPa pressure range. The cake thickness of all suspensions was increased with the square root of time at the constant pressure, and the relations between filtration pressure(P)a nd dehydration rate (Q=dh/dt) showed that the flows of filtrates in the consolidated layers were laminar. The permeabilities were nearly constant during filtration, and kozeny constants(Kc) of the suspensions were 4.8~6.7. These valumes were seen as close to 5, which might be homogeneous particle packing during filtration. On the basis of those data, the multi layered compaction with 9 mm thickness and 52.5% green density was prepared by continuous pressure filtration.

A combined thermal and flow analysis was carried out to study the behavior and performance of a small, commercial LTD (Low-Temperature-Differential) heat engine. Laminar-flow solutions for annulus and channel flows were employed to estimate the viscous drags on the piston and the displacer and the pressure difference across the displacer. Temperature correction factors were introduced to account for the departure from the ideal heat transfer processes. The analysis results indicate that the work required to overcome the viscous drags on engine moving parts and to move the displacer is much smaller than the moving-boundary work produced by the power piston for temperature differentials in the neighborhood of $20^{\circ}C$ and engine speeds below 10 RPS. A comparison with experimental data reveals large degradations from the ideal heat transfer processes. Thus, heat-transfer devices inside the displacer cylinder are recommended.
A numerical study for a two dimensional multi-jet with crossflow of the spent fluid has been carried out. Three different distributions of mass-flow rate at 5 jet exits were assumed to see their effects upon the flow characteristics, especially in the jet-flow region. For each distribution, various Reynolds numbers ranging from laminar to turbulent flows were considered. Calculations drew the following items as conclusion. 1) The development of the free jets issued from downstream jets was hindered by the crossflow formed due to jets. Consequently, the free jet was developed into the channel flow without any evident symptom of impingement jet flow characteristics 2) The crossflow induced the pressure gradient along the cross section of jet exits and the value of the pressure gradient increased as going downstream. The crossflow generated also the turbulent kinetic energy as it collied with the downstream jets. 3) The skin friction coefficient along the impingement plate was affected more by the distribution of mass flow rate at jet exits rather than by the Reynolds number. The skin friction coefficient was inversely proportional to the square root of the Reynolds number, regardless of flow regime when a fully developed flow was formed in the jet flow region. 4) The distribution of the skin friction coefficient along the impingement plate was found to be controlled by adjusting the distribution of mass flow rate at jet exits.
