The connection channel for Saemangeum district is to link the lakes between Keumkang Lake and Saemangeum Lake and to dilute the polluted water flowing from Mankyung river, to accelerate desalinization in Saemangeum lake, and to satisfy the future demand of water around Saemangeum district. Therefore, this study is to investigate the surplus water in Keumgang Lake after supplying the current agricutural, life, and industrial water and to check the possibility to divert the surplus water to Saemangeum Lake

Coccoid green algae collected from March to November 2015 from 79 freshwater ecosystem sites throughout South Korea, including lakes, ponds, swamps, streams, and rivers, were identified using light microscopy. A total of 218 taxa were identified, among which 11 were new species records in Korea; these 11 species were found at four sites (Hanagang River, Chukdong reservoir, Chukdong fishery, and Deokjin reservoir). The new species recorded were Fotterella tetrachlorelloides, Trochiscia naumannii, Keriochlamys styriaca, Placosphaera opaca, Siderocystopsis fusca, Siderocelis oblonga, Siderocelis estheriana, Pachycladella umbrina, Pachycladella zatoriensis, Crucigenia mucronata and Scenedesmus sempervirens.

The study of lake pollution problems is often related to the dynamic behavior of phosphorus. Several phosphorus models are available that may be suitable to study these problems. Depending on the the management objectives and data availability, some models may be more appropriate than others. Criteria are defined to help modelers choose the most appropriate total phosphorus models for different lakes. These criteria consider in-lake processes such as sediment feedback, stratification, and algal uptake and recycle.

Aquatic Oligochaeta is a notable animal group in freshwater environment such as streams, rivers and lakes in view of its biomass and species richness. Taxonomic studies of this group, however, have hardly been performed in Korea. Here five naidid oligochaete species are reported - Slavina appendiculata, Pristina longiseta, Pristina biserrata, Chaetogaster diaphanus and Nais variabilis - from the Seokhyeoncheon Stream in Yangju and from the Changreungcheon Stream in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. Aquatic oligochaetes attaching on aquatic vegetations were collected with a plankton hand net. An image and description on Nais variabilis new to Korea are provided.

It is not easy to identify a ground control point (GCP) or even locate its vicinity from a SAR image. Although simulated SAR images may be useful to interpret mountain areas, they are not useful in flat areas because they do not show ground coverage or key features such as rivers, lakes and roads. In this study, we developed a method to simulate SAR images integrating geographical features to DEM to facilitate to locate ground control features from SAR images.

Estuary lakes constructed for agricultural water resources development projects have encountered eutrophication problems. Natural water purification function of wetland is considered for nutrient removal from inflowing stream. A constructed wetland was designed and installed for pollutant loading abatement in estuary lake Koheung. Combined pond-wetland system was adopted. In this system primary and secondary ponds and six wetland cells were interconnected. Reed and cattail were selected for wetland vegetation and planted in the wetland cells. In this paper, design criteria of the pond-wetland system in temperate weather zone is presented.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the position of lake upon groundwater fluxes on a lake watershed, and to provide for the monitoring network design to survey the exchange relations between groundwater and lake water. Three kinds of hypothetical flow through lakes, which are located at the upper, middle, and lower portion of a watershed were considered. Groundwater flow for each case was numercally simulated under three-dimensional steady state conditions. The exchange rates of the groundwater, the amounts of recharge and discharge, and groundwater fluxes between lake and groundwater in a watershed system with a lake were clarified.

Studying on the shirpms produced out of the freshwater in Nam-hae Island , the four kinds of them were found as follows : 1. Paratya compressa (De Haan) 2. Neocaridina denticulata (De Haan) 3. Neocaridina denticulata koreana Kubo 4. Caridina leucostica Stimposon Among the said kinds of them, Paratya compressa and Caridina leucostica are to be listed for the first time in Korean shrimps fauna, and at the same time, Neocaridina denticulata and Neocaridina denticulata koreana were found distributed mostly in whole the rivers, lakes and ponds of this area.

In this paper, we introduce a new concept in number theory called ζ-factors associated with a positive integer n. Applications of ζ-factors are in the arrangement of the defining polynomials in cyclic n-roots algebraic system and are thoroughly investigated. More precisely, ζ-factors arise in the proofs of vanishing theorems in regard to associated prime factors of the system. Exact computations through concrete examples of positive dimensions for n = 16, 18 support the results.
