This research has a purpose of providing base data to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, by analyzing the changes in muscle body due to sling exercises, of the industrial laborers with work-related musculoskeletal disorders. The subjects of this research are 20 volunteers who applied for musculoskeletal treatment exercises in hospitals, from region D industry H. 10 of the 20 subjects were involved in sling exercise program for 12 weeks, and the other 10 subjects were ordered to retain their common practices. We have used the statistics software SPSS ver.18.0 to analyze the data, and have offered a descriptive analysis of the measured variables. To discover the sling exercise effects, we have executed a t-test (paired sample t-test) comparing the before-after relationship of 12-week sling exercise program, and the level of significance were set to a=.05. With these set of research methods and procedures, we have concluded the following. As a result, we have concluded that 12-week sling exercise program does exert influence in changing muscle body of work-related musculoskeletal patients.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study was to find out smoking condition, smoking related knowledge and attitudes of white color workers to provide baseline data which were to develope smoking cessation programs. Methods: The subjects were 303 workers in G-city. Data were collected from July 1st to Aug. 31st 2003 by self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple comparison test, using SAS-pc 8.0 version. Results: Average age of the laborers was 32.3 years, and 50.7% of male were smoking currently, and 2.4% of female were so. Starting age of smokers was average 20.1 and smoking period was average 12.4 years. Majority of smokers smoked more than one pack of cigarettes in a day. Average points of nicotine dependency was 3.9 out of 10 and 12.5% were more than 7. Those who wanted to 'quit smoking very soon' and 'decided to quit smoking right now' were 29.1%. But those who got any helps and advices from professional experts in smoking cessation were 6.4%. 83.5% of the smokers had tried to quit smoking but failed due to their stress(44.6%), lack of will(36.6%) etc. Laborers knowledge related smoking score were average 11points out of 15, and attitudes were average 75.7points out of 125. Smokers showed significantly low knowledge(p=.012), and more allowing attitudes(p=.001). Conclusions: The smoking cessation programs for the workers should consist of stress management skills, and strengthened willingness. And should be run the program for those who want to 'quit smoking very soon' and 'decided to quit smoking right now' first of all.

Safety is the most important issue in the construction industry. Especially, work-related disease is increasing and resulted in lack of young workers and high turnover due to its 3D industrial image. The main objective of this paper is to identify the relationship of WRMSD with hand tools used in the building construction industry. In order to reach to the goals, the survey and interviews with laborers are conducted. The data is analyzed in a statistical manner. One of the interesting findings from the research is that the carpenters and steelworkers are the principal trade group suffering from WRMSD due to unsafe working condition and method. The results of the research will be used as the basis for the ergonomic design of the better construction working condition and hand tools.

Despite the rapid development in the construction industry due to the changing new technologies, many projects still fail to meet target deadlines. Shortage in manpower and skilled laborers is one of the main reasons for such delays. Markets with high economic growth and economic expansion (such as Gulf Countries in the Middle East) may have pronounced labor the shortages. Labor subcontracting practices are used sometimes to increase production rates and meet project deadlines. This paper explains and analyses labor subcontracting practices currently being used in many places around the world (and especially in the Gulf Countries) and in particular defines a maximum overtime rate for laborers in the laborer-subcontracting method ensuring that the contractor gains both the time saved during overtime and also reduces the cost per unit produced. The mathematical model used formalizes a closed-form equation for overtime pay in similar situations and as such can be applicable worldwide. Data was collected from representative projects that employed such practices from various trades. Validation of the model and formula has been tested successfully by analyzing historic data. The results prove that contractors often do not reach the optimum use of their practices resulting in a higher cost per unit. The presented model and the analysis should be of interest to many contractors currently involved in the practice or considering its use and to those who wish to find new methods that would help in eliminating as much wastes as possible by allocating their resources in the most efficient way.
The study was designed to identify any trends of injury type as it relates to the age and trade of construction workers. The participants for this study included any individual who, while working on a heavy and highway construction project in the Midwestern United States, sustained an injury during the specified time frame of when the data were collected. During this period, 143 injury reports were collected. The four trade/occupation groups with the highest injury rates were laborers, carpenters, iron workers, and operators. Data pertaining to injuries sustained by body part in each age group showed that younger workers generally suffered from finger/hand/wrist injuries due to cuts/lacerations and contusion, whereas older workers had increased sprains/strains injuries to the ankle/foot/toes, knees/lower legs, and multiple body parts caused by falls from a higher level or overexertion. Understanding these trade-related tasks can help present a more accurate depiction of the incident and identify trends and intervention methods to meet the needs of the aging workforce in the industry.

Recently, a series of massive earthquakes have been occurred northeast Asia and there has also been constant sensible earthquakes in South Korea. Particularly, after diagnosing educational facilities with Sichuan earthquake momentum, remodeling construction of old educational facilities and buildings which were not designed not to resist earthquake are actively underway. Remodeling construction sites, however, are mostly small construction sites which consist of less than 30 full-time laborers, where a number of deaths from a fall occur by improper uses of protective gear. Therefore, to reduce the disaster from a fall caused by inadequate uses of protective gear in domestic small construction sites such as those for remodeling, this study conducts research into ways of decreasing accident rates by suggesting providing and administering protective gear as a national project so that donning protective gear is activated.
Recently, lots of studies are performed in developing of active orthosis. Exact and simple muscle force estimation is important in developing orthosis which assists muscle force for disabled people or physical laborers. Hill-type muscle model dynamics is common method for estimation of muscle forces. In Hill-type muscle model, we must know muscle length and moment arm which largely affect muscle force. And several methods are proposed to estimate muscle length and moment arm using joint angle. In this study, we compared estimation results of those method with data from body model of opensim to find which method is exact for estimation of muscle length and moment arm.
This study aims to define the mechanism of the formation of a regional segregated area of Korean immigrants to Japan. And furthermore to examine the transformations of the ethnic identity with the change of the times and generations. Kotobuki is korean community formed in Yoseba. Yoseba is the space served as a catchment place of day laborers for jobs regarded as relatively unsdilled. such places generally have a large number of cheap lodging houses(doyagai) for them. With the change of the times, this area has become a place where the labor workers flocked into. koreans also came in with them. kotobuki was formed in Yoseba is a proof that socio-economic conditions influenced ethnic community. And the ehinc solodarity in the community got stronger in proportion to the solidarity tends to change and differs in degree accoding to the different generations of and different immigrant periods of the Koreans.

To strengthen the nation's logistics infrastructure, the government will also look into constructing inland freight bases in the country's five major regions-the Seoul metropolitan area, Busan region, Honam region(North and South Jeolla provinces), central region(North and South Chungcheong and Gangwon provinces) and the Youngnam region(North and South Gyeongsang provinces). In the years ahead, the construction industry will be challenged by increasingly difficult and complex problems in both engineering and management . Domestic construction industry usually accounts for the range of 10percent of a gross domestic products(GDP) in Korea. The retardations of construction periods in numerous construction works which are caused by the short supply of building materials and laborers have been coming out as a social problem in the country.
This study analyzed the accidents and researched on risk of the actual condition in roof works. This study revealed that 68% of accidents in roof works occurred on small sized construction sites. And 79% of accidents are caused by fall. It is simply because most laborers do not wear the safety harness and the mounted equipment is not properly installed. According to our research, we realize that most of roof works have some risk of the fall accidents. Most of roof working sites have the danger of falling at ladder and temporary walkway. In oder to prevent accidents in roof works, the basic rule such as wearing the safety harness must be followed.
