This study was investigated to control the corrosion and scale at the cooling water system in steel works. Laboratory and field tests were performed for the indirect cooling water system of plate mill. Throughout the experiment, various factors such as leakage of pipes, heating rate and capacity, and the reaction between existing and substitute inhibitors were carefully monitored. The results showed that the harmful effect of high temperature could be minimized, and satisfactory corrosion/scale controls were effectively achieved using inhibitor, even at the increased temperature of $80^{\circ}C$. The batch and field tests in the gas scrubbing cooling water system of blast furnace and cooling water system of corex plant indicated that the new inhibitor was more effective for the prevention of corrosion and scale than the existing one.
The wind tunnel test of large-scale sectional model and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are employed for the purpose of studying the aerodynamic appendices and mechanism on suppression for the vortex-induced vibration (VIV). This paper takes the HongKong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as an example to conduct the wind tunnel test of large-scale sectional model. The results of wind tunnel test show that it is the crash barrier that induces the vertical VIV. CFD numerical simulation results show that the distance between the curb and crash barrier is not long enough to accelerate the flow velocity between them, resulting in an approximate stagnation region forming behind those two, where the continuous vortex-shedding occurs, giving rise to the vertical VIV in the end. According to the above, 3 types of wind fairing (trapezoidal, airfoil and smaller airfoil) are proposed to accelerate the flow velocity between the crash barrier and curb in order to avoid the continuous vortex-shedding. Both of the CFD numerical simulation and the velocity field measurement show that the flow velocity of all the measuring points in case of the section with airfoil wind fairing, can be increased greatly compared to the results of original section, and the energy is reduced considerably at the natural frequency, indicating that the wind fairing do accelerate the flow velocity behind the crash barrier. Wind tunnel tests in case of the sections with three different countermeasures mentioned above are conducted and the results compared with the original section show that all the three different countermeasures can be used to control VIV to varying degrees.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the general characteristics of health-related majors to their life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, somatic symptom scale and college life stress scale. And it's also meant to analyze influential factors for their stress about college life. Methods: The subjects in this study were the students who were in the department of dental laboratory technology and the department of dental hygiene at a college located in the region of Iksan, North Jeolla Province. Data were gathered in November and December, 2012. The life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, physical symptom scale, somatic symptom scale and college life stress scale of the general characteristics were analyzed by t-test and one way analyses of variance (ANOVA) and the Duncan's multiple range test at the 95% confidence level to assess the statistical significance. And stepwise multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine what factors would affect the stress of the students about college life. The data were analyzed with the windows ver. 12.0(SPSS GmbH, Germany) statistical software program. Results: Among the general characteristics, there were significant differences according to gender and age in all the variables that were life expectancy scale, depression scale, health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale, physical symptom scale and college life stress scale. 61.3% of the students responded they slept for six hours or less, and the respondents who slept for six hours or less scored significantly statistically lower in health perception scale, subjective wellbeing scale and physical symptom scale. As for college life stress, the respondents who got depressed more often, whose subjective peace or happiness was lower, whose life expectancy was lower, who had worse physical symptoms, whose living standard was lower and whose academic year was lower were under heavier stress about their college lives. Conclusion: As the worse physical health and worse mental health(life expectancy, depression, health perception, subjective wellbeing and physical symptoms, etc.) of the college students led to heavier stress about college life, how to promote their physical health and mental health should discreetly be considered, and every necessary measure should be taken to improve their physical and mental health.
Unlike many laboratory-scale studies on absorption of organic compounds (VOCs), limited pilot-scale studies have been reported. Accordingly, the present study was carried out to examine operation parameters for the effective control of a hydrophilic VOC (methyl ethyl ketone, MEK) by applying a circular pilot-scale packed-absorption system (inside diameter 37 cm ${\times}$ height 167 cm). The absorption efficiencies of MEK were investigated for three major operation parameters: input concentration, water flow rate, and ratio of gas flow-rate to washing water amount (water-to-gas ratio). The experimental set-up comprised of the flow control system, generation system, recirculation system, packed-absorption system, and outlet system. For three MEK input concentrations (300, 350, and 750 ppm), absorption efficiencies approached near 95% and then, decreased gradually as the operation time increased, thereby suggesting a non-steady state condition. Under these conditions, higher absorption efficiencies were shown for lower input concentration conditions, which were consistent with those of laboratory-scale studies. However, a steady state condition occurred for two input concentration conditions (100 and 200 ppm), and the difference in absorption efficiencies between these two conditions were insignificant. As supported by an established gas-liquid absorption theory, a higher water flow rate exhibited a greater absorption efficiency. Moreover, as same with the laboratory-scale studies, the absorption efficiencies increased as water-to-gas ratios increased. Meanwhile, regardless of water flow rates or water-to-gas ratios, as the operation time of the absorption became longer, the pH of water increased, but the elevation extent was not substantial (maximum pH difference, 1.1).

Mechanical behavior of rock joints usually can be characterized by small-scale laboratory shear tests due to economical and technical limitations, but their applicability to the behaviour of rock mass has been always questioned by a number of researchers because of scale effect. Though there have been several researches regarding the scale effect, it has been a controversial problem how to apply the result of small-scale laboratory shear test directly to field design from different conclusions among researchers. In order to grasp the trend of scale effect of shear behavior, a series of direct shear tests on replicas of natural rock joint surfaces made of gypsum cement with different size and roughness were conducted and analyzed. Result showed that as the size of the specimen increased, average peak shear displacement increased, but average shear stiffness and average peak dilation angle decreased. As for the dependency of scale on shear strength, the degree of scale effect was dependent on normal stress and roughness of rock joint. For the condition of low normal stress and high roughness, decrease of average peak shear strength with increasing size of joint was evident.

Mobile social network can be seen as a specific application of the DTN (Delay Tolerant Network), in which the information propagation can be impacted by many social behaviors of the nodes. For a specific node, its social behaviors are various. For example, the node may not be interested in the information before receiving it and may also discard the information after getting it. On the other hand, people are more willing to forward the message to his friends. These interactive behaviors between nodes can be seen as social behaviors. It is easy to see that the impact of the social behaviors is related to the social ties, which can be manifested by the structure of the social network. State of the art works often simply assumes that the social networks can be divided into some communities. At present, some works find that the structure of some social networks is scale-free. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a theoretical model to evaluate the impact of above social behaviors in the DTN-like scale-free network. Simulation shows the accuracy of the model. Numerical results show that both social behaviors and scale-free character have significant impact on information propagation. Moreover, the impact of social behaviors is related to the scale-free character of the networks.

PURPOSES: The problem under this circumstance is that the erosion not only drops strength of the steel dowel bar but also comes with volume expansion of the steel dowel bar which can reduce load transferring efficiency of the steel dowel bar. To avoid this erosion problem, alternative dowers bars are developed. METHODS: In this study, the bearing stresses between the FRP tube dowel bar and concrete slab are calculated and compared with its allowable bearing stress to check its structural stability in the concrete pavement. These comparisons are conducted with several cross-sections of FRP tube dowel bars. Comprehensive laboratory tests including the shear load-deflection test on a full-scale specimen and the full-scale accelerated joint concrete pavement test are conducted and the results were compared with those from the steel dowel bar. RESULTS: In all cross-sections of FRP tube dowel bars, computed bearing stresses between the FRP tube dowel bar and concrete slab are less than their allowable stress levels. The pultrusion FRP-tube dowel bar show better performance on direct shear tests on full-scale specimen and static compression tests at full-scale concrete pavement joints than prepreg and filament-winding FRP-tube dowel bar. CONCLUSIONS: The FRP tube dowel bars as alternative dowel bar are invulnerable to erosion that may be caused by moisture from masonry joint or bottom of the pavement system. Also, the pultrusion FRP-tube dowel bar performed very well on the laboratory evaluation.

The deep seabed mining system is generally composed of surface vessel, lifting system, buffer, flexible pipe and miner. The milling system is regarded as a large-scale system in which each subsystem is interconnected to other one. In order to control a large-scale system, a decentralized control approaches have been proposed recently. In this paper, as a basic study on application of decentralized control, firstly, the mining system is simplified modeled, where the lifting system and buffer is regarded as a spherical pendulum and tile flexible pipe is as a two-dimension linear spring. Based on the derived model, the system characteristics and the feasibility of decentralized control are analyzed.

RBMK fuel assemblies differ from other LWR FA due to a specific arrangement of the fuel rods, the low enrichment, and the used burnable absorber - erbium. Therefore, there is a challenge to adapt modeling tools, developed for other LWR types, to solve RBMK problems. A set of 10 different depletion simulation schemes were tested to estimate the impact on reactivity and spent fuel composition of possible SCALE code options for the neutron transport modelling and the use of different nuclear data libraries. The simulations were performed using cross-section libraries based on both, VII.0 and VII.1, versions of ENDF/B nuclear data, and assuming continuous energy and multigroup simulation modes, standard and user-defined Dancoff factor values, and employing deterministic and Monte Carlo methods. The criticality analysis with burn-up credit was performed for the SFP loaded with RBMK-1500 FA. Spent fuel compositions were taken from each of 10 performed depletion simulations. The criticality of SFP is found to be overestimated by up to 0.08% in simulation cases using user-defined Dancoff factors comparing the results obtained using the continuous energy library (VII.1 version of ENDF/B nuclear data). It was shown that such discrepancy is determined by the higher U-235 and Pu-239 isotopes concentrations calculated.
