The analysis of value chains for the chestnut industry in Chungcheongnam-do

  • The aim of this study was to enhance the value of the chestnut industry by analyzing the value chain structure. Based on the value chain theory, it is divided into primary activities and support activities. Thus, in total, 27 subjects from Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang were interviewed and self-administered questionnaire. Regarding the value chain structure of the chestnut industry, the primary activities consisted of production followed by cultivation and storing, sorting and packaging, transportation and marketing sales. The support activities were divided into production infrastructure, policy, R&D, and systematization. The primary activities are able to maximize profits through cost reductions. The production was divided into general and environmentally friendly cultivation. Depending on the labor force, it is family-centered labor. However, the installation of harvest nets depends on a hired labor force (40 - 60%) such that it would be necessary to have a mechanized harvest to replace the manpower for the cost reduction. Transportation, marketing sales, and backdoor selling (38.1%) were higher than the existing channels (31.0%) using the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. The enhancement of value could be created by maximizing profits through the reinforcement of the links between each subject. The production showed strong connections with cultivation/storing, sorting/packing, and backdoor selling and the National Forestry Cooperative Federation. The processing stage is a very simple structure, it would be necessary to have R&D and to support promotions, infrastructure, machines, and sales increases, which should be expanded by connections with other industries like the food industry.

  • This Study intends to analysis what 3 factors, which are indices of Capital, Labor and Distribution, really affect to Value-Added Productivity through Statistical Analysis. For this, We selected 12 indices of Value-Added from the edition of 'Annual report of Korean companies' published in 'Korea Investors Service., Inc', especially in parts of Chemicals and Chemical products of total 85 companies. Using this data, Multivariate Statistical Analysis such as Principal Component Analysis, Factor Analysis, Covariance Structure Analysis is taken for modeling the effect of 3 factor(Labor Productivity, Capital Productivity and the Index of Distribution) on Value-Added Productivity.

한국 제조업에서의 노동소득분배율 변동요인 분석 (An Analysis of Movements in the Labor Share of Income in the Korean Manufacturing Industries)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국 제조업의 노동소득분배율 변동요인을 1991-2009년 18개 산업 패널자료를 이용해 신고전파 경제학적 접근과 칼레키-포스트케인지안-정치경제학적 접근을 통합한 분석모형을 구축하고 실증 분석하였다. 분석결과, 수출과 수입 등 무역의 존도의 증가는 노동소득분배율을 높이고, 노동조합 조직률의 하락, 자본증진적 기술진보, 생산의 세계화가 노동소득분배율을 하락시킨 것으로 나타났다. 1997년 IMF 경제위기 이후 제도변화의 영향으로는 노동시장의 유연화와 노동조합의 고용규제력 약화로 노조조직률은 노동소득분배율에 영향을 미치지 못한 반면 외주비율 확대가 노동소득분배율을 하락시켰으며, 수출의 노동소득분배율 개선효과가 감소하여 낙수효과가 약화된 것으로 나타났다. 그밖에 주주 권한을 강화하는 기업지배구조 개편이 노동소득분배율을 하락시킨다는 포스트케인지안의 금융화 명제를 뒷받침하는 증거는 발견되지 않았다.

Expatriate Staffing and Foreign Affiliate's Labor Productivity: Contingent on Foreign Production Intensity and Cultural Distance

  • Purpose - This study examines the effects of expatriate transfer on foreign affiliate's labor productivity. Design/methodology - Using Korean-owned foreign affiliate-level data, we estimate the effect of expatriate transfer on foreign affiliate's labor productivity using the system generalized method of moments model. We also consider foreign affiliate- and host country-specific contingencies and test how they are associated with expatriates in enhancing foreign affiliate's labor productivity. Findings - We consider foreign production intensity and cultural distance between the home (i.e., South Korea) and host countries as key contingencies that influence the effect of expatriates on foreign affiliate's labor productivity. We find that expatriates are effective in enhancing the labor productivity of less production-intensive foreign affiliates. This effect is strengthened as expatriates are deployed to countries that share cultural similarities with the home country. Originality/value - Considering that previous studies provide mixed results on the effect of expatriates, our findings suggest that foreign affiliate-specific operational orientation and cultural distance should be considered jointly to understand the true effect of expatriate staffing on foreign affiliate performance.

  • This study is aimed at identifying the value of marginal products(VMP) of agricultural labor, capital and land. The resources are the major portion of input costs of agricultural projects. To appraise economic feasibility of agricultural projects, the real value of the resources would be estimated by VMP of the inputs rather than by distorted actual market prices such as rural wages, rent and interest. To convert the market wage rate into shadow wage rate, covertion factor of 0.90 would be appicable based on the study results. To evaluate the right of way and compensation, VMP of land is recommendable to apply in land pricing rather than actural land rent prevailing in rural area which has been underrated on account of labor shortage and difficulty of farming. Discount rate as a opportunity cost of capital should be applied 7-8% considering the VMP of capital and interest rate of foreign loan from IBRD and ADB. For the successful appraisal of the agricultural projects, the recommendation of this study would be applied in the future.

베트남 무역수지에서 환율 및 노동숙련도 간의 상관관계분석: 주요 무역 상대국 중심으로 (The Roles of the Exchange Rate and Labor Skill Composition on Vietnam's Trade Balance Vis-à-Vis Main Trading Partners)

  • 주요 상대국들과 무역에서 환율과 노동숙련도의 구성이 베트남의 무역수지에 미치는 역할 본 연구는 베트남이 주요 20개국과 무역을 할 때 환율과 노동숙련도의 구성이 무역수지에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 2000년부터 2016년까지의 균형패널자료 (balanced panel data)를 활용해서, 저자는 베트남의 총 무역수지와 노동기술의 정교화로 인한 무역수지를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 세가지 결론은 아래와 같다: 첫째, 환율은 베트남의 무역수지에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지만 그 계수 (coefficient) 가 작아 그 효과는 제한적이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째 베트남 화폐 (VND(Vietnamese Dong))의 가치가 떨어질 경우 베트남의 고숙련노동상품과 중숙련사무직 노동생산품의 무역수지는 악화된다. 셋째, 고숙련상품과 중숙련 사무직 생산 상품의 노동 기술 숙련도를 높이고 비가격경쟁력을 향상시킴으로서 베트남의 총 무역수지를 개선할 수 있으며, 반면에 저숙련노동 및 중숙련 블루칼라 노동생산 상품은 더 이상 베트남의 총 무역수지개선에 도움이 되지 않을 것이다.

  • 최근 몇 십년간 한국시장에서의 임금 변화, 노동시간과 여가시간에 대한 가치는 매우 빨리 증가하였다. 고전학파의 우상향하는 노동공급곡선은 여가의 가치와 관련되어 수정되어야 한다는 Robert E. Prasch의 재수정된 후방굴절형(backward-bending) 노동공급곡선 모형을 바탕으로 과연 한국의 상황에서도 이러한 결과가 나타나는가를 살펴보고자 하였다. 임금과 노동시간과의 관계를 살펴보고, 역동적인 노동시장 안에서, 낮은 임금에서의 불균등한 계약 효과를 감소시키기 위한 형평성(equity)과 효율성(efficiency)사이의 상호작용 측면, 최소 임금과 최대 노동시간에 대한 현실적인 측면을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구는 한국노동연구원의 "한국노동패널" 조사 1차(1998)년도에서 10차(2007)년도 자료를 활용하여 외환위기 이후 국내의 임금과 노동시간관계를 파악하였다.

기공체조프로그램이 초산부의 불안 및 분만통증 완화에 미치는 효과 (Effects of A Qigong Training Program on the Anxiety and Labor Pain of Primipara)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of the Qigong training program on the anxiety and labor pains of primipara. Method: The research subjects were a total of 60 primipara who consulted a doctor regularly concerning their antenatal care. Among them, 30 people were the experimental group, and the other 30 people were the control group, and were selected as homogeneous with the experimental group. The degree of anxiety and labor pains were measured by State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) and Graphic Rating Scale(GRS). SPSS WIN 11.0 was used for data analysis. Obstetric and general characteristics between experimental and control groups, and a homogeneity test of state and trait anxiety were done by both $X^2$ test and t-test. The hypothesis testing was analyzed by ANCOVA with a covariate of pretest value. Result: The first hypothesis, 'Primipara who join the Qigong training program have lower anxiety than those who do not join' was supported (F=28.8, p<.000). The second hypothesis, 'Primipara who join the Qigong training program have lower labor pain than those who do not join' was unsupported. Conclusion: It was verified that the Qigong training program was effective in alleviating anxiety; however it did not have any effect on relieving labor pain, so more in-depth research is needed later on.

농작업 재해 발생에 따른 대체인력 고용 특성 (Characteristics of Replacement of Labor following Accidents in Agriculture)

  • Objective: This study aims to provide information needed to determine the wages paid for replacement labor for work lost following accidents in agricultural operations. Methods: Visits and interviews were conducted with 171 farmers who experienced a loss of at least one day of work due to an agricultural workplace accident. Results: It was found that only 35.1% of the study participants hired replacement labor, and more replacement labor was hired in greenhouse and fruit workplaces than in open field work. The mean number of days of hiring replacement labor was 14.6 days, and no significant differences were found between the national average wage and the surveyed value, while female workers were paid less than their male counterparts. Conclusions: The results from this study would be of help in determining a reasonable level of compensation for lost work.

가임여성의 출산.양육에 대한 인식 (Recognition on the Birth.Bringing-up of Fertile-Women)

  • This study is to identify the related factors for birth bringing-up from 544 women from 20s to 40s who can be pregnant residing in Busan in order to explore the method for birth encouragement in the midst of the low birth reality in Korea. It was revealed from the research result that the married women who have a birth plan recognize the marriage and the value of the children more importantly than the economical burden. In addition, it was known that the wished number of the children for unmarried women was influenced most greatly by the marriage and the value of the children. The expectation of the institutional supporting for the birth encouragement was the consideration for the time of bringing up and support to returning to the labor market after the birth.
