Impact of Emotional Labor on Quality of Service by Social Workers in Public Sector (사회복지전담공무원의 감정노동이 서비스 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently, social welfare officers are suffering from a lot of job stress due to increasing work and are carrying out emotional labor. This study assessed the effect of emotional labor on the quality of welfare service through a questionnaire survey on 937 civil servants in Sejong city and Chungcheongnam-do provinces. First, social welfare officers experienced more than average level of emotional labor, and they performed more internal behavior than surface behavior. Second, the services provided by the social welfare officers were higher than usual, followed by tangibility, assurance, reliability, empathy, and responsiveness. Third, deeping acting had a positive (+) influence on service quality among the sub-factors of emotional labor. In other words, the quality of service increases as the emotional state itself changes, On the other hand, deeping acting did not affect service quality. In the future, policy responses to excessive work burden of social welfare officers should be needed and a manual for responding to emotional labor should be provided.

  • In this paper, we survey the current status of measurement labor in Korean Industry. At the same time we try to predit the demand and supply of measurement labor to suggest policy measures for equilibrium in measurement labor market. We use a general production function for the prediction which include a set of general homethetic production function.

Emotional Labor and Sleep Quality of Dental Hygienists: Mediating effect of Depression (치과위생사의 감정노동과 수면의 질 : 우울의 매개효과)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to test the mediating effect of depression in the relationship between emotional labor and quality of sleep among dental hygienists. Methods: A purposive sample of 224 subjects in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province was recruited for convenient sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression using Baron and Kenny steps for mediation. Results: The mean scores for overall emotional labor, quality of life, and depression were $33.14{\pm}5.55$, $7.49{\pm}2.82$, and $19.20{\pm}10.45$, respectively. They were significantly correlated with each other. Depression had a mediating effect(${\beta}=.52$, p<.001) in the relationship between emotional labor and quality of sleep(Sobel test: Z= 6.82, p =.001). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that intervention programs focusing on preventing depression are highly recommended to improve quality of life among dental hygienists in relation to emotional labor.

  • In this study, we analyze the relationships between long-term care workers' person-centeredness and job satisfaction, emotional labor, and service quality. Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data from 460 long-term care workers in long-term care facilities. In the research model, person-centered care was verified using independent variables, with emotional labor (surface behavior, internal behavior) and job satisfaction applied as parameters, and service quality applied as a dependent variable. The results of this study are as follows. First, the fit of the model is good. Second, the implicit behavior of emotional labor is found to be an important factor affecting service quality. Also, emotional labor is an important mediator, improving the value of person-centered care and service quality. There is a positive correlation between internal behavior and service quality, and a negative correlation between surface behavior and service quality. Third, emotional labor (surface behavior, internal behavior) is the most influential variable in terms of service quality. The results of this study demonstrate the necessity to pay clinical and academic attention to person-centered care in terms of long-term care workers' emotional labor and service quality.

Emotional Labor between Service Job vs. Non-Service Job and Effect of Emotional Labor on Depression and quality of Life (서비스직과 비서비스직의 감정노동 및 감정노동이 우울과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Emotional labor is the process of regulating feelings or emotions and expressing them in the way that fulfill job requirement. There have been many studies about characteristics or related variables of service workers' emotional labor, but are few studies comparing emotional labor between service workers and non-service workers. Therefore we are to examine the differences of emotional labor among the different types of workers. And as depression and lowered quality of life are well known negative consequences of emotional labor, we also intend to study the relationship between depression, quality of life, and emotional labor. Data were collected from 125 sales workers, and 186 cyber university full time students. And as to assure the student participants to be non-service workers, we limited the participant job as administrator, soldier or housewife. To compare differences of groups, one-way ANOVA was performed with Fisher's LSD as post hoc comparison. On overload in customer reception, service workers showed significantly higher scores, and on demand of emotional regulation/emotional dissonance/depression, both service workers and housewives showed significantly higher scores. Also analysis of multiple regression was performed, and the result showed that, emotional dissonance increased depression but decreased quality of life, while support/care increased quality of life, but decreased depression. With the result, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

  • Considering in view of China's low price and Japan's high technology, the most important point is the quality of product. To increase the comparative power internationally all workingmen have to fulfill the responsibility to maximize the quality, and this is possible practiced under 'Zero Defect' spirit. To reduce the defect ratio to 'Zero' the workingmen have to recognize own fault, all the manufacturing process should be conducted under 'Fool Proof System', If done under this circumstances, then labor force can work comfortably and safely without nervousness and tiresome. The productivity and quality can increase ultimately and even foreign labor, imbecile child, old-aged labor can participate in work, which can reduce shortage of labor source. Therefore, in this study all defects in manufacturing process, it would be recognized the errors and mistakes caused by human.

Institutional Quality, Regulatory Environment and Microeconomic Performance: Evidence from Transition and Non-transition Developing Countries

  • The development of regulatory systems varies between transition and non-transition economies. This suggests that they provide different incentives for entrepreneurial development and could have varied effects on the economy because they have different methods to deal with market failure. However, limited empirical evidence exists to prove the assumption of dichotomy. Using comprehensive data for institutional quality, labor market and financial market development, this research sought to analyze their effect on employment growth at micro level. The results show that the quality of institutions in transition economies are poorer relative to those in non-transition economies, but their financial and labor markets are more developed than the latter. Further analysis for the transition sample shows that the three variables are individually positively related with employment growth. For the non-transition sample, institutional quality and labor market flexibility bear a positive and significant effect on employment. Financial market development enters the model with a negative coefficient when regressed alone, but a joint test of significance finds that all the variables have a positive effect on employment growth. This result could imply that there is interdependence between institutional quality, labor flexibility and financial market development in firm-employment-growth relationship, or complementarity between regulations and the quality of institutions. Alternatively, this finding suggests that a stringently regulated credit market in non-transition economies have a selection effect-allocating credit only to entrepreneurs who already demonstrate strong growth potential. In sum, despite differences in the evolution of regulatory environment between the two samples, both of them complement employment growth at firm level. The overall implication of these findings is that less rigid regulations and coherent policies that are enforced with impartiality provide incentives for firms to expand.

  • This study describes the creation of a scale to measure standardization for service encounter process. Measuring standardization of service encounter process is devided into manual level and action level. We investigate the relative impact of process standardization about service quality, job satisfaction and labor productivity. Our findings indicate that action level of service encounter process standardization is more important than manual level, and its process standardization positively affects service quality, job satisfaction and labor productivity positively.

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between emotional labor and service quality, and the moderating effect of superior and coworker support. Based on the responses from 520 hotel employees, the results of multiple regression analysis appeared as follow; 1) deep acting affected positively on all service quality factors(responsiveness, empathy, reliability). 2) surface acting didn't affect significantly on all service quality factors(responsiveness, empathy, reliability). 3) coworker support affected positively on the relationship between deep acting and responsiveness. 4) superior support affected positively on the relationship between deep acting and responsiveness, and on the relationship between surface acting and responsiveness.

A Study on the Improvement of Compulsory Arbitration System in Labor Dispute of Korea (한국노동쟁의에 있어서 직권중재제도의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This article deals with the Improvement of Compulsory Arbitration System on Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act in Korea. If a labor dispute occcur, the settlement of labor dispute must be reached for the parties' own accord. The autonomy of the parties concerned is the fundamental principle in the settlement of labor dispute. If the Rights Which are guaranteed by art. 33 Constitutional Law belong to civil liberties, we should consider Trade Union Act as the restriction of basic rights. Arbitration is a procedure which permits the most positive intervention by the arbitrator. It is carried out by an arbitration committe which is composed of three arbitrators appointed by the chairman of the Labor Relations Commission. Compulsory arbitration system of the labor for parties should be improved. In case of necessary public enterprises, more strict requirements on assembly for labor disputes should be prepared and the government should support institutions to prevent labor-management disputes by educating experts on labor-management relations and improving the quality of arbitration.
