The objective of this study was to determine the effect of palm and/or linseed oil (LSO) supplementation on carcass quality, sensory evaluation and fatty acid profile of beef from crossbred Wagyu beef steers. Twenty four fattening Wagyu crossbred beef steers (50% Wagyu), averaging $640{\pm}18kg$ live weight (LW) and approximately 30 mo old, were stratified and randomly assigned in completely randomized design into 3 treatment groups. All steers were fed approximately 7 kg/d of 14% crude protein concentrate with ad libitum rice straw and had free access to clean water and were individually housed in a free-stall unit. The treatments were i) control concentrate plus 200 g/d of palm oil; ii) control concentrate plus 100 g/d of palm oil and 100 g/d of LSO, iii) control concentrate plus 200 g/d of LSO. This present study demonstrated that supplementation of LSO rich in C18:3n-3 did not influence feed intakes, LW changes, carcass and muscle characteristics, sensory and physical properties. LSO increased C18:3n-3, C22:6n-3, and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), however, it decreased C18:1t-11, C18:2n-6, cis-9, trans-11, and trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acids, n-6 PUFA and n-6:n-3 ratio in Longissimus dorsi and Semimembranosus muscles.
TO evaluate an effect of cyclohexane treatment on the degree of liver damage, rats were induced liver damage with 10 or 17 times $CCl_4$ injection (0.1 m1/100 g body wt., 50% $CCl_4$ dis-solved in olive oil) at intervals of every other day. Cyclohexane (1.56 g/kg body wt., i.p.) was administrated to the animals at 48 hours after the last pretreatment of $CCl_4$ . Rats were sacrificed at 4 hours after injection of cyclohexane. On the basis of histopathological findings, liver weight/body weight (LW/ BW, %), activities of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), xanthine oxidase (XO) and akaline phosphatase (ALP), and contents of liver protein and manlondialdehyde (MDA), $CCl_4$ -pretreatment induced liver damage. And $CCl_4$ 17 times treated group showed more severe liver damage than $CCl_4$ 10 times treated group. Administration of one dose of cyclohexane to $CCl_4$ 10 times treated animals resulted in the enhanced liver damage; liver necrosis with proliferation of fibroblast and bile duct abnormality, and increase in hepatic MDA content and the activities of serum ALP and ALT, But the enhanced liver damage was not found in $CCl_4$ 17 times treated animals. Serum cyclohexanone concentrations at 4 or 8 hours after injection of cyclohexane were higher in all liver damaged groups than normal group and were somewhat higher In $CCl_4$ 17 times treated animals than $CCl_4$ 10 times treated ones. Among the oxygen free radical metabolizing enzymes, hepatic cytochrome P45O dependent aniline hydroxylase (CYPdAH) activity in cyclohexane metabolizing enzyme system was meaningfully increased by the injection of cyclohexane to the liver damaged rats, with increased Vmax and high affinity to aniline. LW/BW (%) and activities of serum XO and ALT were more significantly increased in liver damaged groups than normal group by administration of cyclohexanone. In conclusion, it is assumed that an enhancement of liver damage by injection of one dose of cyclohexane to liver damaged animals might be caused by oxygen free radicals and cyclohexanone.
In this study, we estimated root zone soil moisture dynamics using remotely sensed (RS) data. A soil moisture data assimilation scheme was used to derive the soil and root parameters from MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data. Based on the estimated soil/root parameters and weather forcings, soil moisture dynamics were simulated at spatio-temporal scales based on a hydrological model. For calibration/validation, the Little Washita (LW13) in Oklahoma and Chungmi-cheon/Seolma-cheon sites were selected. The derived water retention curves matched the observations at LW 13. Also, the simulated soil moisture dynamics at these sites was in agreement with the Time Domain Reflectrometry (TDR)-based measurements. To test the applicability of this approach at ungauged regions, the soil/root parameters at the pixel where the Seolma-cheon site is located were derived from the calibrated MODIS-based (Chungmi-cheon) soil moisture data. Then, the simulated soil moisture was validated using the measurements at the Seolma-cheon site. The results were slightly overestimated compared to the measurements, but these findings support the applicability of this proposed approach in ungauged regions with predictable uncertainties. These findings showed the potential of this approach in Korea. Thus, this proposed approach can be used to assess root zone soil moisture dynamics at spatio-temporal scales across Korea, which comprises mountainous regions with dense forest.
To guarantee the disinfection ability in clearwell, a value of CT is considered where C[mg/l] is disinfectant residual at the exit of clearwell and T[min] means $T_{10}$, the contact time when 10% of tracer is out of clearwell after introducing the tracer at the inlet. To meet a CT value required, increasing the C value is not recommended because high C value can increase potential of producing disinfection by product like THMs. Increasing the hydraulic efficiency surrogated by $T_{10}$ is thus an option widely recommended. Right now, it is widely adopted estimating $T_{10}$ considering LW ratio only due to the suggestions of previous researches. The authors think however there are other factors to consider including shape, flow rate, configuration of inlet and outlet, and the existence of intra basin. This study is initiated to closely look at the effects of two factor on hydraulic efficiency. The factors are shape and inlet flow velocity, i.e., inflow. For that, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is developed and pilot test is also carried out. The results show that at a L/W ratio, disinfection ability is overestimated with larger length in shape and higher inlet flow velocity. This suggests that in determining $T_{10}$, the shapes of clearwell and inlet flow velocity should also be considered as well as L/W ratio.
We created a cDNA microarray representing approximately 3,500 pig genes for functional genomic studies. The array elements were selected from 6,494 cDNA clones identified in a large-scale expressed sequence tag (EST) project. These cDNA clones came from normalized and subtracted porcine adipose tissue cDNA libraries. Sequence similarity searches of the 3,426 ESTs represented on the array using BLASTN identified 2,790 (81.4%) as putative human orthologs, with the remainder consisting of "novel" genes or highly divergent orthologs. We used the gene microarray to profile transcripts expressed by adipose tissue of fatty Chinese Xiang pig (XP) and muscley Large White (LW). Microarray analysis of RNA extracted from adipose tissue of fatty XP and muscley LW identified 81 genes that were differently expressed two fold or more. Transcriptional differences of four of these genes, adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (aP2), stearyl-CoA desaturase (SCD), sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 1 (SREBF1) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were confirmed using SYBR Green quantitative RT-PCR technology. Our results showed that high expression of SCD and SREBF1 may be one of the reasons that larger fat deposits are observed in the XP. In addition, our findings also illustrate the potential power of microarrays for understanding the molecular mechanisms of porcine development, disease resistance, nutrition, fertility and production traits.

The grouting method, which can be used to effectively improve small areas within a short amount of time, may have different injection effects depending on the ground conditions and the levels of a water table. In particular, for ground with a relatively large permeability, the strength of the ground and the water proof ability can decrease over time due to the leaching process. To solve this problem, a "self-healing smart grouting (SSG) method", which was designed to maintain the initial strength of the ground by minimizing the leaching process, was developed recently. In this study, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on SSG samples to understand the strength of SSG over curing time where two different curing temperatures have been applied for comparison. The uniaxial compression strength of SSG was further compared with the samples prepared using conventional methods (LW and SGR). The test results showed that the uniaxial compression strength of SSG was higher at both high and low curing temperatures compared to that of the samples prepared using conventional methods. The initial strength of SSG was also relatively higher.
The finite element method and statistics of the convergence measurement are useful method of the stability analysis of the tunnel adjacent to the pier. It is the purpose of the this case study to certificate of validity of the application of those methods. The safety of the pilot tunnel method and LW pre-grouting has been evaluated from the FEM analysis. The three-dimensional finite element method is carried out for the decision of the level of stress redistribution at the two-dimensional numerical analysis. An analysis of the convergence is carried out by the estimation of preceding convergence at tunnel excavation. F-examination is applied for this estimation. As results of that analysis, The F-value is from 10.81 to 158.74 and the coefficient of determination is from 0.82 to 0.99. An analysis of convergence is carried out by using regression analysis. Consequently, it is shown that the convergence can be modeled as following function C(t)=a[1-exp(-bt)].

The object of this study was to determine the surface energy of hydrophobically modified micro-crystalline cellulose (MCC) with AKD and evaluate the effect of surface energy of the solid particles dispersed in aqueous medium on flotation efficiency. Especially to eliminate the complication derives from the diverse parameters of solid particles including particle size, type, etc. MCC's modified with AKD have been used. The surface energy Parameters were calculated from advancing contact angles of apolar and polar liquids on MCC pellets using the Lifshitz-van der Waals acid-base (LW:AB) approach. Total surface energy of hydrophobic MCC ranged from 46.19 mN/m to 48.60 mN/m. The contribution of the acid-base components to the total surface energy ranged form 13% to 17% for hydrophobic MCC's. The effect of surface characteristics on the flotation efficiency was evaluated. It was shown that there exist critical values of surface energies to increase flotation efficiency. Total surface energy and polar component of solid particles should be lower than 47 mN/m and 7 mN/m, respectively, for effective removal in the flotation process.

A variety of routing protocols targeted specifically at mobile ad-hoc network environments have been developed. Mobile ad-hoc network is a self-organizing temporary network, operating without the aid of any established wired infrastructure. The proposed protocol supports seamless communication services between the mobile hosts within a mobile ad-hoc network environments. In particular, our protocol makes faster route re-establishment possible by maintaining multiple paths in each mobile host, and also, the protocol provides reliable communication environments. We compare the performance of RWP model with that of LW model. This paper shows delivery ratio with single path and non-disjoint multiple path according to mobility model and node numbers.
