  • A research on thermal analysis method is conducted for the characterization of heat generation during operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) for Light Railway Transits(LRT) in this paper. Efficient cooling of the heat generated in the IPMSM is important because the excessive heat generated from the winding, core and permanent magnet makes it harder for a long time continuous operation of IPMSM. Therefore, in order to analyze the heat generation characteristics of the 110kW-class IPMSM as advanced research for application the IPMSM to the cooling device, the heat transfer coefficients for each component of the 110 kW-class IPMSM were derived and the thermal equivalent network was configured to perform the thermal analysis in this study. Finally, the 110kW-class IPMSM prototype is made and a comparative verification between the test data and the thermal analysis results through its various performance tests are carried out.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to improve the performance of a statistical model-based voice activity detection (VAD) which is based on the conditional maximum a posteriori (CMAP) with deviation. In our approach, the VAD decision rule is expressed as the geometric mean of likelihood ratios (LRs) based on adapted threshold according to the speech presence probability conditioned on both the speech activity decisions and spectral deviation in the pervious frame. Experimental results show that the proposed approach yields better results compared to the CMAP-based VAD using the LR test.

  • This Paper proposes the likelihood-based nonlinear dimension reduction method of the speech feature parameters in order to construct the voice activity detecter adaptable in noisy environment. The proposed method uses the nonlinear values of the Gaussian probability density function with the new parameters for the speec/nonspeech class. We adapted Likelihood Ratio Test to find speech part and compared its performance with that of Linear Discriminant Analysis technique. In experiments we found that the proposed method has the similar results to that of Gaussian Mixture Models.

  • This paper presents the use of the Petri Net Method for modeling railway tracks. The Petri Net is defined as having the characteristics of a parallel, asynchronous, distributed, inconclusive, statistical, etc. information handling system and is a graphical mathematical modeling tool to study the specifics of active movement. It's proven use can be seen at the Korean type Light Rail testing tracks where they modelled the Petri Net method using the train track encasing the segment, track, turnout, and platform as a singular factor and even though two trains either travelling in the same or opposite directions on a single test track equipped with a sidetrack can travel with the guarantee that the two will not collide.

  • A great deal of development has been made in the field of railroad control in Korea. Like the recent High speed railroad (KTX) and the intercity light rail train (LRT) are being vigorously promoted. Therefore, in concert with the new railroad development projects, improved train control technics are being applied. Along with the focus on these newly developed advanced technologies the need for a reliable safety system for the safety of the passengers and railroad control personnel alike is being intensified. New safety facilities are continuously being developed in order to safely introduce and develop these new technologies. There is an urgent need for research and development of safety facilities for the implementation of the presently developed facilities as well as for the presently being used. Therefore, this research will study the safe operation of Korean railroad and the implementation situation of the class, functionality, ensured safety range etc. of the safety facilities for users and operators. In studying the material of the kinds of implemented safety facilities and technologies being used abroad we have researched into the most suitable direction of development of safety facilities for the Korean railroad environment.

  • Decay heat residuals of spent nuclear fuel (SNF), i.e., the differences between calculations and measurements, were obtained previously for various spent fuel assemblies (SFA) using the Polaris module of the SCALE code system. In this paper, we compare decay heat residuals to their uncertainties, focusing on four PWRs and four BWRs. Uncertainties in nuclear data and model inputs are propagated stochastically through calculations using the SCALE/Sampler super-sequence. Total uncertainties could not explain the residuals of two SFAs measured at GE-Morris. The combined z-scores for all SFAs measured at the Clab facility could explain the resulting deviations. Nuclear-data-related uncertainties contribute more in the high burnup SFAs. Design and operational uncertainties tend to contribute more to the total uncertainties. Assembly burnup is a relevant variable as it correlates significantly with the SNF decay heat. Additionally, burnup uncertainty is a major contributor to decay heat uncertainty, and assumptions relating to these uncertainties are crucial. Propagation of nuclear data and design and operational uncertainties shows that the analyzed assemblies respond similarly with high correlation. The calculated decay heats are highly correlated in the PWRs and BWRs, whereas lower correlations were observed between decay heats of SFAs that differ in their burnups.

  • Unattended Train operation(UTO) requires higher safety target than other systems, since all train operations are automatic. The system provider to deliver without accident or failure, and the operator to transport passengers without accident by putting all trains supplied, including them, into service. Safety rates without such failures can be represented as indicators of RAMS, among which availability is continuously controllable to achieve the target, with a clear target. Availability is often required by the licensee from the initial stage of the project to demonstrate that the request for proposal (RFP) is usually specified and to maintain separate availability targets at the operational stage. In particular, unlike unmanned operation light rail in complex systems, simple formulas are often presented to facilitate verification at each stage. This paper presents this method of usability calculation in an integrated manner at all levels and analyzes the existing usability values to ensure reliability of the availability formula for integrated use in unmanned light rail systems.

  • In this paper, we apply a discriminative weight training to a statistical model-based voice activity detection(VAD). In our approach, the VAD decision rule is expressed as the geometric mean of optimally weighted likelihood ratios(LRs) based on a minimum classification error(MCE) method which is different from the previous works in that different weights are assigned to each frequency bin which is considered more realistic. According to the experimental results, the proposed approach is found to be effective for the statistical model-based VAD using the LR test.

  • A study on the iron-loss reduction of 110kW-class Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) for Light Railway Transit (LRT) is conducted. In general, the iron loss of IPMSM depends on the characteristics of core material and non-oriented electrical steel is used as a core material of IPMSM. In order to reduce the iron-loss of IPMSM, both non-oriented electrical steel and grain oriented electrical steel are applied as core material. Iron loss of 110kW-class IPMSM can be reduced approximately 40% comparing to an existing IPMSM by applying grain oriented electrical steel to the stator teeth.
