In this paper the LNG vessel of the Moss type which is capable of lifting 15,261 tons is investigated in the view point of the pressure vessel preliminary design using the finite element method. The Pressure vessel design is based on the equivalent stress levels due to the internal pressure. The finite element model of the spherical pressure vessel is configured using 4 noded quadrilateral shell element. The finite element analysis program NASTRAN and ANSYS 5.5are implemented. The design is compared with the three kinds of the boundary condition : first, where the equator of the pressure vessel is fixed, and where the top and is fixed, and, the bottom end is fixed, respectively. A comparison is presented between the results obtained by the finite element model and by the prototype production model. Additionally just below position(case 1 & case 2) of equator ring was carried out by using ANSYS 5.5. The results show that the vessel design based on the stress is acceptable at the preliminary design.

A pressure vessel consists of an inner tank and the outer tank; the material of the inner tank is austenite stainless steel, and the outer tank is general carbon steel. As the storage amount increase, the size of the inner tank for LNG also increases, which eventually increases the weight of the LNG storage tank. The Cold Stretch method can transport and store the LNG in a larger amount than the conventional pressure container, and the weight of the pressure vessel can also be reduced at 50 70% due to the reduction of the thickness, which is excellent from an economic and energy consumption perspective. Although the Cold Stretch method has these advantages, the domestic situation has not developed any related legislation. In this study, the actual production of pressure vessels using the Cold Stretch method will be processed and the volume expansion after the Cold Stretch will be checked and compared with the mechanical properties.

Thermodynamic analysis of extraction process from the constant pressure LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) vessel was performed in this study. LNG was assumed as a binary mixture of 90% methane and 10% ethane by mole fraction. The thermodynamic properties such as temperature, composition, specific volume and the amount of cold energy were predicted during extraction process. Pressure as a parameter ranges from 101.3kPa to 2000kPa. The result shows the peculiar phenomena for the LNG as a mixture. Both vapor and liquid extraction processes were investigated by a computer model. The property changes are negligible in the liquid extraction process. For the vapor extraction process, the temperature in the vessel increases rapidly and the extracted composition of methane decreases rapidly near the end of extracting process. Specific volume of vapor has the maximum and that of liquid has the minimum during the process. When pressure is increased, specific volume of vapor decreases and that of liquid increases. It was found that specific volume of vapor phase had a major effect on the heat absorption at constant pressure during vapor extraction process. If the pressure of the vessel increases, the total cold energy which can be utilized from LNG decreased.

As a fuel for ship propulsion, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is currently considered a proven and reasonable solution for meeting the IMO emission regulations, with gas engines for the LNG-fueled ship covering a broad range of power outputs. For an LNG-fueled ship, the LNG bunkering process is different from the HFO bunkering process, in the sense that the cryogenic liquid transfer generates a considerable amount of boil-off gas (BOG). This study investigated the effect of the temperature difference on boil-off gas (BOG) production during ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering to the receiving tank of the LNG-fueled ship. A concept design was resumed for the cargo/fuel tanks in the LNG bunkering vessel and the receiving vessel, as well as for LNG handling systems. Subsequently, the storage tank capacities of the LNG were $4,500m^3$ for the bunkering vessel and $700m^3$ for the receiving vessel. Process dynamic simulations by Aspen HYSYS were performed under several bunkering scenarios, which demonstrated that the boil-off gas and resulting pressure buildup in the receiving vessel were mainly determined by the temperature difference between bunkering and the receiving tank, pressure of the receiving tank, and amount of remaining LNG.
Recently, there has been an increase in the demand for natural gas as a source of clean energy, which has increased the demand for LNG carriers. However, LNG carriers require a capital investment to obtain equipment for the regasification process, which prevents fires and explosions. Thus, on account of NIMBY, a CNG carrier is suggested that eliminates the need for regasification equipment. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide emissions are more and more regulated by international conventions such as the Kyoto Protocol. Because of this, $CO_2$ carriers have also received international attention as a methodology to transport and store $CO_2$ cargoes. Several vessels or tanks to transport and store $CO_2$ gas have been studied in various countries. This paper proposes a conceptual design for a 20ft container shaped tank to effectively transport small cargoes of $CO_2$ and CNG. The proposed pressure vessel or tank will be carried by a conventional containership or special cargo ship. The influences of the design parameters for proposed pressure vessel or tank. Including the materials, scantlings, and shape of the pressure vessel, are studied theoretically and computationally.

This paper addresses the safety of two-row tank design by performing the extensive sloshing model tests. Owing to the uncertainties entangled with the scale law transforming the measured impact pressure up to the full scale one, so called comparative approach was taken to derive the design sloshing load. The target design vessel was chosen as 230 K LNG-FPSO with tow-row tank arrangement and the reference vessel as 138 K conventional LNG carrier, which has past track record without any significant failure due to sloshing loads. Starting with the site-specific metocean data, ship motion analysis was carried out with 3D diffraction-radiation program, then the obtained ship motion data was used as 6DOF tank excitation for subsequent sloshing model test and analysis. The statistical analysis was carried out with obtained peak data and the long-term sloshing load was determined out of it. It was concluded that the normalized sloshing impact pressure on 230 K LNG-FPSO with two-row tank arrangement is higher than that of convectional LNG carrier, hence requires the use of reinforced cargo containment system for the sake of failure-free operation without filling limitation.

Recently, an automobile market used to natural gas has emerged as fast-growing as the several countries, who holds abundant natural fuel resources, has promoted to supply the national agency for an automobile car. LNG fuel vessel is more efficient in another way as the energy density is high, but it requires a high technology and investment to maintain extreme low temperature. CNG fuel vessel are relatively low-cost alternative to LNG, but poorly economical in terms of energy density as well as showing safety issues associated with compressed pressure. The development of adsorbed natural gas (ANG) has emerged as one of potential solutions. Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the weight of vessel by applying light-weighed a composite carbon fiber in order to response to the regulation of $CO_2$ emission. Herein, this study make the prototype ANG vessel not only based on the optimal design and analysis of material characteristic but also based on the shape design, and it suggest a new type for the composite carbon fiber vessel which verified functional test. Moreover, the detail shape design is analyzed by a finite element analysis, and its verifies the ANG vessel.
This paper presents the development of a Gas Valve Train (GVT) control system which is the core equipment of LNG fueled vessels. Due to the increasing worldwide demand for echo friendly green ship products, domestic companies urgently require to develop a core equipments for the LNG fueled vessels to secure worldwide markets in marine engineering. A LNG fueled engine generally equips the GVT, a fuel supply system that steadily supplies clean high-pressure LNG to the engine. The GVT requires a safety operational control system that can prevent any gas leakage accident, and a system that monitors operation status in real time. Therefore, we introduces a development for GVT control and monitoring system design and the design was systematically performed by means of functional analysis and differentiation of foreign advanced products.
The most crucial factor in membrane LNG ships to ensure sage operations, is how to effectively control tank pressure at the time of excessive generation of boil off gas (BOG). When the ships carry out tank cool down with her retaining heel prior to arrival at loading port, the vessel encounters the critical situation of excessive BOG and high tank pressure that can lead to high degree of risk. This is to provide one of the best ways to secure safe and effective LNG ship operations focusing on the detailed methods of tank cool down to achieve ATR(Arrival Temperature requirement) without building up high tank pressure and excessive BOG and calculating the appropriate heel quantity to be unutilized for tank cool down and fuel during ballast voyage.

The most important factor for the desalination system is the fresh water production cost dependent upon the possible energy source which should be obtained easily and with low price. Recently in Korea the demand of LNG, as a cheap and clean energy which does not cause an environmental problem, has sharply been increased. In general, LNG is storaged in a tank as a liquid state below -162 'C. When it is serviced, however, the LNG absorbs energy from a heating source and transforms to the gaseous state with high pressure. During this process a huge amount of cold energy accumulated in LNG is wasted. This waste cold energy can be utilized for producing fresh water from sea water using a sea water freezing desalination system. In order to develop a sea water freezing desalination system and to establish its design technique, a qualitative and quantitative data regarding the freezing behavior of sea water is needed in advance. The goal of this study, therefore, are to reveal the freezing mechanism of sea water, to measure the freezing rate, and to investigate the freezing heat-transfer characteristics. The experimental results help to provide a general understanding of the sea water freezing behavior in a Rectangular vessel cooled from below.
