  • In this paper, the physical and the volume resistivity properties due to linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE)/ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) blends are studied. In order to measure the volume resistivity properties. the micro electrometer is used, the range of temperature and applying voltage are 25 to 120[$^{\circ}C$], form 100 to 1000[V] respectively. From FT-IR spectrum, LLDPE blended with EVA shows an absence of carbonyl and ether groups. From the experimental result of the volume resistivity properties, it is confirmed that the volume resistivity is decreased, which was attributed to the increase of molecular motions with the increase of temperature.

  • Blends of poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) and polyethylene, either linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) or metallocene-catalyzed polyethylene (MPE), that were prepared by melt blending, were investigated. From the rheological properties as determined by capillary rheometry, the melt viscosity of both PPS/LLDPE and PPS/MPE blends was low when PE was in dispersed phase, but high melt viscosity was observed for both blends with PPS in dispersed phase. Significant differences depending on the composition were found in the mechanical properties such as percent elongation at break and notched Izod impact strength. In addition, dispersed phase morphology of the blends was analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), together with brief discussion about the difference between them.

  • In this study, four kinds of specimens of PE(polyethylene)-based insulating materials were prepared for selecting the optimum insulation materials in a wet environment. The specimens were tested by various methods, the anti tracking test, the transmittance test in the water vapor transmittance(WVT) and the abrasion resistive test, etc. The HDPE(high-density polyethylene) specimen was showed excellent property in the tracking resistance test and the lowest transmittance in water vapor transmittance test. In the abrasion resistive test, the LLDPE(linear low-density polyethylene) and MDPE(medium-density Polyethylene) were showed excellent mechanical properties. The value of cut-through resistance for MDPE and HDPE were superior to that for LLDPE and LDPE(low-density polyethylene).

  • In order to investigate the influence on dielectric characteristic due to physical structural change of specimens, we investigated the frequency and temperature dependency of tan $\delta$ for virgin specimen and mixtured specimens in the temperature range of 25[$^{\circ}C$] ~ 120[$^{\circ}C$], frequency range of 300(mv) ~ 1500[mV] An experimenatal specimen is selected as Low Liner Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate(EVA) (thickness 200[$\mu$m]) produced by mixture ratio of 50:50, 60:40, 70:30 and 80:20. From the results of XRD it can be confirmed that the peak of LLDPE and EVA made by mixture ratio of 70:30 at 2$\theta$= 21.4$^{\circ}$is higher and the peak made by amorphous contribution at 2$\theta$= 19.5[$^{\circ}$] is almostly constant without no concern.

  • Rice starch was incorporated into linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) using a Brabender Plastic-Corder internal mixer at a temperature of 140$\^{C}$ and 40 rpm. The starch loading was varied from 0 to 30% with 5 intervals. Studies on brabender torque development, mechanical properties and water absorption were investigated. The starch loading did not influence the brabender torque significantly. With respect to mechanical properties; the tensile strength and elongation at break decrease with increasing starch loading. The Young's modulus also increases with the starch filling. Mechanical properties were deteriorated as the starch absorbed moisture. The rate of water absorption was dependent on the starch filling in the composites. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis was performed for the tensile fracture surfaces and it revealed the starch agglomeration and a poor dispersion of starch in the LLDPE matrix.

  • The conditions of Soxhlet extraction and HPLC analysis were examined for the determination of antioxidants used for polyolefins manufacturing. The extraction with methylene chloride in a Soxhlet apparatus for 10 hours and above provides almost complete recovery of the additives from polyolefins. The determination of the antioxidants including BHT, Irganox 1076, Irganox 1010 and Irgafos 168 could be successfully performed by using reversed-phase HPLC under gradient elution where the baseline separation of all four antioxidants in a single run was possible. In addition, the antioxidants inherently contained in commercial LLDPE and OPP films were identified and quantitatively determined.

  • We developed a polymer pouch using PVP that is water soluble in the precedent study. Yet melt viscosity was so low that it was not possible to produce hemispheric type which is essential for mass production, therefore we used another material to make the polymer pouch. It enabled to figure out a water-soluble transition and mechanic physical property of PEG that is newly chosen, and to blend the PEG with LLDPE and TALC followed by result. So, we could implement an evaluating property on blended proportion. It is important to find out a proper blending ratio throughout an experiment since its property is different or varied followed by each proportion as a water soluble character is conflict to a solid character. With the blending technique we were able to produce the polymer pouch enhanced for a tensile force and an impact intensity maintaining a water soluble character. We could identify a ground solidity effect of the polymer pouch as a result of a direct shear test using the product developed.

  • The effect of Al-MCM-41 preparation methods on the catalytic degradation of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was investigated. Al-MCM-41 catalysts were synthesized by direct method (Al-MCM-41-D) and post treatment method (Al-MCM-41-P) and their characteristics were elucidated by XRD, BET, $NH_3\;TPD,\;^{27}Al$ MAS NMR. TGA kinetic analysis showed that the catalytic activation energies of Al-MCM-41-D and Al-MCM-41-P were 191.54 and 114.26 kJ/mol, respectively. The higher catalytic activity of Al-MCM-41-P would be attributed to its smaller pore size as well as higher number of acid sites that are accessible.

  • Bell pepper was packed with several plastic films, and investigated the quality Characteristics such as gas composition, weight loss, microbial load, soluble solid content, ascorbic acid and color during storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. Cast polypropylene (CPP), low density Polyethylene (LDPE), Polyolefin (MPD, PD961) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were used for this purpose. Oxygen concentration inside packages generally showed a 10∼14% after 1∼2 weeks, but package with CPP maintained above 15% throughout the storage. Carbon dioxide concentration of CPP was above 2%, but other treatments showed below 2%. Weight loss of all treatments was below 3.0% after 5 weeks. Total microbial count showed a similar pattern compared to yeast and mold, and CPP maintained the highest microbial load after 3 weeks. Yellowness (b value) of bell pepper was generally increased throughout the storage, and MPD and PD961 were higher than other treatments.
