  • Recently Life Cycle Cost Analysis for civil infrastructures such as pavements, bridges, and dams has been emphasized However, so far, there are few systems available for life cycle cost analysis of bridges at design stage. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to develop a user-friendly life-cycle cost analysis system for LCC-effective optimal design decision making at design stage. The program is based on the proposed LCC model, formulation, analysis modules and systematic procedure that suit Korean construction conditions. It is expected that the developed system can be effectively utilized for more LCC-effective design of bridges. It is applied to an actual bridge design project in order to demonstrate its effectiveness and applicability.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the economic performance of latent and sensible energy transportation systems. LCC (Life-Cycle Cost) analysis is a practical method and a guideline for evaluating the economic performance of considered systems during the Life-Cycle Period. By comparing the LCC of alternatives, The most ideal alternative is determined which has the lowest LCC. It is concluded that the cost of STA (Solution Transportation Absorption system) can be reduced by 67% to that of sensible energy transportation for study period with 10 km transportation distance.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of time use in employed husbands and their wives according to family life cycle. Data for 284 couples were gathered from the structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) The family life cycle had effected on the time use of wives changed remarkable. That is to say the housework time of the unemployed wives decreased after increasing to the second stage but the social-cultural time of those changed to the contrary. (2) The family life cycle affected only the husbands' housework time on the weekend but wasn't the important effect of time use in case of the employed husbands.

  • A web-based program life-cycle management(PLM) system is introduced to implement the system engineering processes and to provide the development teaceability online. This information system aims for the realization of essential system engineering management techniques currently applied to the space launch system development program including management of configuration and data based on the work breakdown structure(WBS), WBS, bill of materials and properties. The system enhances communication and gives access to the development data with relevant information such as data-to-data relation and approval status/history through the web, and preserve all of the development data throughout the program life-cycle. Further improvement of the system is planned to implement the program managrment pricesses and to provide integrated information useful for the programmatic decision making.

  • 현재 자동차의 문제점을 해결할 수 있는 가장 착실한 엔진은 수소를 이용한 연료 전지라고 판단된다. 연료전지는 화학적 에너지를 전기적 에너지로 직접 변환하는 장치이다. 순수한 연료전지 차량과 연료전지 하이브리드 차량을 비교 분석하였다. 연료전지 하이브리드 차량에서 고려하여야할 점은 효율, 연료경제성, 출력 특성 등이 있다. FUDS 싸이클 시뮬레이션 비교를 하면 하이브리드화가 순수 연료전지 차량 보다 효율이 높다. 이는 회생 제동 에너지를 이용할 수 있으며 battery를 이용하여 연료전지를 효율적인 영역에서 작동하게 할 수 있기 때문이다. Life cycle 비용은 연료전지의 크기, 연료전지의 가격, 수소의 가격 등에 지배적인 영향을 받는다. 연료전지의 가격이 고가이면 하이브리드화가 유리하나, 연료전지의 가격이 400$/kW 이하가 되면 순수한 연료전지 자동차가 비용면에서 유리 하다.

  • As buildings become larger and more complicated, construction costs have increased with a considerable effect on buildings' Life Cycle Cost (LCC). However, there has been little consideration on economic aspects in the selection of construction materials due to limited information on the materials and dependency in architects' experience and inefficiency in cost estimation, causing design changes, increase in maintenance cost, difficulty in budgeting, and decrease in building performance. To solve these problems, this study proposed a BIM-based material selection model which reflects the comprehensive economic efficiency of building materials. Our cost prediction model can estimates the material-related cost during the entire building life cycle. Furthermore, we implemented the proposed model in connection with BIM, which can analyze and compare LCC by material. Through the validation of the model, we could confirm the necessity of LCC-based material selection in comparison with the conventional cost-centered material selection.

  • In this paper, the effects of the system parameters on the high cycle fatigue life based on structural dynamic analysis of a turbine blade are investigated. Conventional studies have forcused on the fatigue life of turbine blades with specific system parameters. However, each parameter has statistical deviation because of inhomogeneity of material property, tolerance, and operating conditions. Therefore a methodology that estimates the effects of system parameter on the fatigue lift deviation is demonstrated.

  • This paper is concerned with the life-cycle cost(LCC) of the urban transit system which was developed by KRRI and is now under test in Gyeongsan, Korea. Its reliability, availability and maintainability(RAM) were analyzed. LCC is the core part of analyzing the total cost of acquisition and ownership of a system. LCC analysis of a system is the most effective when it is applied in the it's early design phase. In this paper, we present IEC 60300-3-3(Life Cycle Costing) in detail and propose how to apply LCC in assessing the urban transit system according to RAM process. This case study demonstrates that reliability management system is very effective in reducing the operating cost of subway corporations in Korea.

  • This paper investigates how the weights of performance measures vary depending on corporate life cycle, such as birth, growth, maturity, revival, and decline. Balanced Scorecard performance measures are employed for this investigation. Balanced Scorecard has been widely used for measuring a corporate Performance by incorporating financial and non-financial measures simultaneously. Because these performance measures are related to the compensation and promotion of employees, research of weights of performance measures would be instrumental. Questionnaires from 218 companies are analyzed. Depending on the corporate life cycle, our survey results demonstrate that the weights of the business Performance measures differ In the four Perspectives - financial. customer, Internal Process, and learning/growth. Our results can be used for enhancing the Duality of performance measurement systems.

  • This study is intended to propose a systematic and practical life cycle cost(LCC) model for the development of the reliability-based seismic safety and cost-effective performance criteria for design and upgrading of long-span PC bridges. The LCC models consist of five cost functions such as initial cost, repair/replacement cost, human losses, road user cost, and indirect losses of regional economy. The proposed model Is successfully expressed in temrs of Park-Ang damage indices and life cycle damage probability obtained from SMART-DRAIN-2DX which is an existing algorithm for nonlinear time history analysis. The proposed LCC model is successfully applied to a viaduct constructed by PSM, in Seoul. Based on the observations, the proposed systematic procedure for the formulation of LCC model may be useful for the development of the reliability-based seismic safety and cost-effective performance criteria for design and upgrading of long-span PC bridges.
