We propose a generative probabilistic model with Dirichlet prior distribution for topic modeling and text similarity analysis. It assigns a topic and calculates text correlation between documents within a corpus. It also provides posterior probabilities that are assigned to each topic of a document based on the prior distribution in the corpus. We then present a Gibbs sampling algorithm for inference about the posterior distribution and compute text correlation among 50 abstracts from the papers published by IEEE. We also conduct a supervised learning to set a benchmark that justifies the performance of the LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation). The experiments show that the accuracy for topic assignment to a certain document is 76% for LDA. The results for supervised learning show the accuracy of 61%, the precision of 93% and the f1-score of 96%. A discussion for experimental results indicates a thorough justification based on probabilities, distributions, evaluation metrics and correlation coefficients with respect to topic assignment.
As the amount of users and data of NS explosively increased, research based on SNS Big data became active. In social mining, Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA), which is a typical topic model technique, is used to identify the similarity of each text from non-classified large-volume SNS text big data and to extract trends therefrom. However, LDA has the limitation that it is difficult to deduce a high-level topic due to the semantic sparsity of non-frequent word occurrence in the short sentence data. The BTM study improved the limitations of this LDA through a combination of two words. However, BTM also has a limitation that it is impossible to calculate the weight considering the relation with each subject because it is influenced more by the high frequency word among the combined words. In this paper, we propose a technique to improve the accuracy of existing BTM by reflecting semantic relation between words.
By using text mining, we explore the factors responsible for an increase in SUV preference. We collected 32,679 posts related to SUVs from "Bobaedream," the largest online automobile community in South Korea, and applied the LDA topic model. While previous studies have explained the SUV boom as an individual's risk aversion strategy from crime, the result shows that the topic of 'Safety' appears to be an important factor in the SUV discourse in the context of a car accident and high-speed driving situation. To conclude, the consumption of SUVs in Korean society serves as a mean to prevent anxiety and danger to individuals when driving. We insist that decreasing social trust, caused by an increase in inequality, underlies the perception of risk on the road.

Topics calculated using LDA topic modeling have to be labeled separately. When labeling a topic, we look at the words that represent the topic, and label the topic. Therefore, it is important to first make a good set of words that represent the topic. This paper proposes a method of calculating a set of words representing a topic using TextRank, which extracts the keywords of a document. The proposed method uses Relevance to select words related to the topic with discrimination. It extracts topic keywords using the TextRank algorithm and connects keywords with a high frequency of simultaneous occurrence to express the topic with a higher coverage.

The main goal of this study is to investigate how to route a question to some relevant users who have interest in the topic of the question based on users' topic interest. In order to assess users' topic interest, archived question-answer pairs in the community were used to identify latent topics in the chosen categories using LDA. Then, these topic models were used to identify users' topic interest. Furthermore, the topics of newly submitted questions were analyzed using the topic models in order to recommend relevant answerers to the question. This study introduces the process of topic modeling to investigate relevant users based on their topic interest.

The purpose of this study is to propose AET (Augmented and Extended Topics), a novel method of synthesizing both LDA and BERTopic results, and to analyze the recently published LIS articles as an experimental approach. To achieve the purpose of this study, 55,442 abstracts from 85 LIS journals within the WoS database, which spans from January 2001 to October 2021, were analyzed. AET first constructs a WORD2VEC-based cosine similarity matrix between LDA and BERTopic results, extracts AT (Augmented Topics) by repeating the matrix reordering and segmentation procedures as long as their semantic relations are still valid, and finally determines ET (Extended Topics) by removing any LDA related residual subtopics from the matrix and ordering the rest of them by F1 (BERTopic topic size rank, Inverse cosine similarity rank). AET, by comparing with the baseline LDA result, shows that AT has effectively concretized the original LDA topic model and ET has discovered new meaningful topics that LDA didn't. When it comes to the qualitative performance evaluation, AT performs better than LDA while ET shows similar performances except in a few cases.
Nowadays, users' reviews and feedback on e-commerce sites stored in text create a huge source of information for analyzing customers' experience with goods and services provided by a business. In other words, collecting and analyzing this information is necessary to better understand customer needs. In this study, we first collected a corpus with 99,322 customers' comments and opinions in English. From this corpus we chose the best number of topics (K) using Perplexity and Coherence Score measurements as the input parameters for the model. Finally, we conducted an experiment using the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic model with K coefficients to explore the topic. The model results found hidden topics and keyword sets with high probability that are interesting to users. The application of empirical results from the model will support decision-making to help businesses improve products and services as well as business management and development in the field of hotel services.
Many important terminologies in biomedical text are expressed as abbreviations or acronyms. We newly suggest a semantic link topic model based on the concepts of topic and dependency link to disambiguate biomedical abbreviations and cluster long form variants of abbreviations which refer to the same senses. This model is a generative model inspired by the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic model, in which each document is viewed as a mixture of topics, with each topic characterized by a distribution over words. Thus, words of a document are generated from a hidden topic structure of a document and the topic structure is inferred from observable word sequences of document collections. In this study, we allow two distinct word generation to incorporate semantic dependencies between words, particularly between expansions (long forms) of abbreviations and their sentential co-occurring words. Besides topic information, the semantic dependency between words is defined as a link and a new random parameter for the link presence is assigned to each word. As a result, the most probable expansions with respect to abbreviations of a given abstract are decided by word-topic distribution, document-topic distribution, and word-link distribution estimated from document collection though the semantic dependency link topic model. The abstracts retrieved from the MEDLINE Entrez interface by the query relating 22 abbreviations and their 186 expansions were used as a data set. The link topic model correctly predicted expansions of abbreviations with the accuracy of 98.30%.
Image topic and emotion analysis is an important component of online image retrieval, which nowadays has become very popular in the widely growing social media community. However, due to the gaps between images and texts, there is very limited work in literature to detect one image's Topics and Emotions in a unified framework, although topics and emotions are two levels of semantics that often work together to comprehensively describe one image. In this work, a unified model, Joint Topic/Emotion Multi-Modal Hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation (JTE-MMHLDA) model, which extends previous LDA, mmLDA, and JST model to capture topic and emotion information at the same time from heterogeneous data, is proposed. Specifically, a two level graphical structured model is built to realize sharing topics and emotions among the whole document collection. The experimental results on a Flickr dataset indicate that the proposed model efficiently discovers images' topics and emotions, and significantly outperform the text-only system by 4.4%, vision-only system by 18.1% in topic detection, and outperforms the text-only system by 7.1%, vision-only system by 39.7% in emotion detection.
Social data such as users' comments are unstructured in nature and up-to-date technologies for analyzing such data are constrained by the available storage space and processing time when fast storing and processing is required. On the other hand, it is even difficult in using a huge amount of dynamically generated social data to analyze the user features in a high speed. To solve this problem, we design and implement a topic association analysis system based on the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) model. The LDA does not require the training process and thus can analyze the social users' hourly interests on different topics in an easy way. The proposed system is constructed based on the Spark framework that is located on top of Hadoop cluster. It is advantageous of high-speed processing owing to that minimized access to hard disk is required and all the intermediately generated data are processed in the main memory. In the performance evaluation, it requires about 5 hours to analyze the topics for about 1 TB test social data (SNS comments). Moreover, through analyzing the association among topics, we can track the hourly change of social users' interests on different topics.
